Have broken my Ovation with an OTA CM11 update

I mistakenly tried the OTA update from 10.2 to 11 (EMMC) with TWRP 2.5 I think. It failed and would not boot. I then tried doing a factory reset and reinstalling a 10.2 ROM I found on the internal SD card and it completed (no red FAILED) but would not go beyond the offset circular boot screen. I now tried flashing the cwm-recovery-ovation-6.zip which was successful but when I try to load any new ROM from an SD card I get E: Can't mount /external_sd.

I presume I'm missing something. I don't think I formatted the bootdata folder I see mentioned a lot.

Do you still have the original backup or one from just after you install CM10.2? It might be worth just restoring that using the SD CWM you backedup with.

If the above doesn't work restore to stock grab both stock recovery and ROM from lepinar and get back to a known working state and try again.

Is there a reason why the CWM is not good? Isn't this a ROM issue, like trying to flash CM 11 with an outdated recovery? and if so, don't I just need to understand how to install a clean 10.2 again?

If the above doesn't work restore to stock grab both stock recovery and ROM from lepinar and get back to a known working state and try again.

You may be able to just recover but when I run into issues I find it easier to return to stock and try again. It works for me.

The CWM for CM11 (6045 or 6046) is not compatible with older versions of zips and older CWMs are not compatible with CM11.

If you have an older version of CWM you can use it to flash CM10.2, but you will need to do a factory reset with the CWM before rebooting after flashing to clear out the mess the bad CM11 install created.

So I see I have CWM 6.0.4.6 on the device. I can do a factory reset and then install CM11 directly or I have to go back to an old CWM and 10.2 first?

How about the issue where 6.0.4.6 does not read the SD card? I tried 2 and 16 gig cards, both EXFat and FAT32. Is that get resolved by the factory reset, or am I formatting the card wrong, or what? Unless there's a general impression that CM11 is not ready, I'd rather go to 11 unless it's necessary to go back first. Do I need to use the internal SD card and if so, how to I mount it to the PC when it's broken like this? Is there a button combination that makes it accessible through Odin or similar?

In the mess I got myself in, I'm to understand that the OTA is always fatal because the recovery does not accompany the flash, and the two are mutualy exclusive? In other words, I need to download the new recovery, the ROM and GAPPS and do all three at the same time to go from 10.2 to 11? But after that, OTAs are OK?

The port you refer to seems to require that the nook be operational to move the files from the external to Internal card so there are many extra steps to go from a dead machine to CM11. Unless there is a working TWRP. I know lots of people think TWRP is bad news: is it a possible solution for me or more problems?

I gather that you'd go back to 10.2 if this was yours? Is it the simpler solution? I'm not set on the bleeding edge.

And like the other user said, the best solution is to go back to stock and start over. Once on stock you can put all the files on internal and install anything you want. If it were mine I would go back to CM10.1.3 stable, which is what I use now.

To go back to stock go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and make a new bootable CWM per item 1a, flash the plain stock zip from item 6 and do a factory reset with CWM.
