I think it depends upon the headphones you are using. Low quality earphones tend to produce these sounds when connected to devices with DAC.
all devices you can connect an earphone to has a DAC dumbass

Lol im sorry for that misleading comment. Im referring to amps that are meant to drive high impedance headphones.
Just got Soundmagic E50S and all I can say is that the hissing IS STILL HERE, they have 51 Ohm impedance and I can still hear the hissing, it's unbelievable. What can I do? Are there any better earphones that I can buy?
Confirm. Hissing here.
There's nothing changed in terms of sound quality compared to nougat, you can upgrade. Issues like hissing are present in Oreo but if you aren't noticing then in nougat then you won't notice them in Oreo too. Also, there's only one area in this phone to tweak sound quality, that's in sound section in settings, it's the same in both Oreo and nougat.Just bought the phone today, i didnt upgrade to oreo yet with my sennheiser ie8 no hissing although they are 16ohm.
One question all the dirac hd tweaking and headphone settings are in oreo ?because in nougat i cant find anything in sound menu. Audio quality using usb audio player pro (hires driver) is very good though.
With all my observations with different earphones I have concluded that every earphones (with/without mic) under 16ohm impedance will output easily noticeable hissing.Well I just updated to the Feb release of Oreo and with no other fixes other than turning on the option for "MI Sound Enhancer" for using speakers and choosing "general" headphones in Settings > Sound > Headphones and Audio Effects I have no noticeable hiss with my the standard white samsung in ear jobs from an A series phone (unknown ohm rating).
Sony over ear sport headphones (16 ohm) still have some hiss.
Both of these headphones has noticeable hiss on all versions of Nougat I tried.
I do notice that the samsung headphone plug only has three white rings but does have a mic, which I use regularly. My Sony over ear headphones do not have a mic.

And the only case when you won't be able to hear hissing in 16ohm or lower impedance earphones is when your earphones frequency response is not good, means either they are OEM earphones, or they aren't able to capture very low frequencies.
So it's better to buy a cheap Chinese earphone of unknown brand that has atleast 32ohms impedance than to buy a reputable and recommend earphone by brands that are household names (Sony/rha/vmoda) today, as they will show you the quality of this 3.5mm jack as clear as water.
Note: this doesn't mean that 32ohm are 100% safe to buy, the only earphones that I can blindly say will show no hisses would be of 60+ impedance, and GOOD quality earphones of that impedance easily costs more than this phone itself. So the only practical choice for someone who bought this phone or is considering to buy one is to apply the hit and trial method, and before starting ordering earphones online like everyone else is used to in 2018, make sure that if it won't satisfy you, "it's your fault".

its there, i haven't used nougat much so i am not sure where it is, search "headphones & audio effects" in settings. Also there's an equalizer in google play music settings too. Personally i just select the desired audio profile and tweak equalizer that's included in poweramp as i don't use g play music.
Touch tones just disable sound while touches, so when there's no audio, there will be no hissing, hissing starts a sec before any audio activity. So yes, disabling it reduces the frequency of hissing, but it isn't a "fix".I had that white noise in all of my three earphones/headphones, but i solved it by disabling "touch tones".
Settings > Sound > Advanced > Touch Tones.
Now the white noise is gone
He might me true, as hissing is dependent on earphones. It might me Xiaomi fixing hissing for each kinda earphones one by one.

Jesus, how come some people can't hear it? With the lowest volume, the hissing is so insane that I can't even understand what people say on YouTube, the hissing makes voice distortion. What annoys me the most is lots of people with oreo already, and no one comments on this issueThe problem is a lot of people cannot hear the hissing because it is of such high frequency, so the problem is under reported. I had hissing sound with my A1 and I let a lot of my friends hear it but a lot of them could not hear the hissing while some could with same earphone.
I think hissing sound is present in all phones but a lot of people cannot hear it, or dont notice it or simply dont care.
Only people with good ears can hear it.
you do not need to have very sensitive ears to hear the hiss ... you only need a low impedance headset.
Indeed, and the hiss are getting more and more louder than on my Mi A1. Lol.
Why not you throw the gadgets that you purchased and get yourself something that can work with your set of ears, perhaps a tin can, cause it seems you can't live with it and don't try to suggest that this phone is not for a good audio experience. Yes you are right on the part that many headphones with lower impedance suffer where many head with lower perspicacity don't seem to understand.
Yeah, after going through all the post here, it seemed a viable option for those beliebers.
Exactly, To the point!!
That was Sarcasm. Well you just can't make everyone happy, listen with a higher impedance headset and you will understand. there is a reason mi A1 support headphones upto 600 ohms and most of the others can't (I don't think LG V30 supports upto 600 or any other, unless they have DIRAC, the oneplus has, apart from huawei, moto and few others). Same way, like every hole is not made for every pin to fit in.
Instead of blaming Xiaomi for all this hiss, I would urge people to understand that this is DIRAC.
if anyone really want to understand and seek some knowledge.
