I tested G (2/16) and GS3 (2014 LTE model dual core /2GB RAM, CM12 5.1) video recording using a 3rd party camera app. 1080/30fps/20mbps. After 8-10 minutes of continuous video recording temperature reported by Battery HD app moto G - 131.1F, GS3 - 118.6F. Moto G felt very hot, especially the screen. GS3 felt warm.
Is the heat normal for moto phones? Is 131F normal operating temperature for the hardware? It's my first moto. Don't know what to expect. LG phones have thermal sensors, shut down, disable charging, brightness control when overheat. My Galaxy S3 never seems to suffer from overheating. G doesn't have a thermal sensor, doesn't shut down.
