I think the time to get at least a custom kernel has come, sammy made terrible kernels for the newer S series devices too
Agreed but this is a hardware /design problem the used a software bandaid on.

Could very well be the thermal compound needs to be replaced. On the other hand, if they used a heatpipe that wasn't rated properly then no thermal compound in the world will help. I'm sure someone out there has access to a proper FLIR camera, it would be interesting to see where the heats coming from and if replacing any of their cooling actually helps.

Sammy has been using heat pipes the wrong way. If the heat pipe does not transfer heat to a heatsink (the phone's glass body is definitely NOT a proper or useful heatsink) it's just useless and it will cook up our (non removable) batteries. Anyway someone made an article about the Exynos 9810's kernel and it seems it could be much better. For us normal people i think a good governor and some underclocking would be the best thing (of course underclocking is a bandaid as you say, I'd like to have active cooling on my phone but i don't think there's something like that on the market lol). The best thing would be cutting the glass back and put a metal piece linked to the existing heat pipe to dissipate the heat :cowboy:

I had to send my phone in for a week for repairs with it overheating and they replaced the lcd and it fixed it
Interesting. Can you provide any more details? Model, rough manufacture date, what prompted them to replace the LCD? If Samsung has a known defect (not necessarily covered under warranty) - they certainly aren't making it public because I've asked.

It was made in decembers batch back in 2017

Everything they found was this

Problem Found
( image attached I didn't wanna show anyone the ticket number since i didn't want anyone to know personal info )
LOOPBACK FAILURE , CHARGING FAILURE , NO POWER UP , Fingerprint Sensor Failure ( I never had issues when I sent in the device with power or charging )

Replaced :
audio recieiver 110DB22SWB Waterproof
incell battery pack EB BG930ABA 3000MAH
A/S Rework kit octa r/kit ( SM-G930V sm-G )
Home key assy-sm_G930V

on the email they said they only replaced the LCD

Quote from the email

Original Problem:
HARDWARE ISSUE - TEMPERATURE ISSUES - PHONE IS WARM WHILE IN USE

Problem found:
LCD BLANK/SEG. MISSING/LINES - CHARGING FAILURE - USB 3.0 CONNECTION FAIL

Solution:
REPLACED LCD - REPLACED COMPONENT

Ah, different CPU. It's possible the LCD has revisions... Have to leave it up to someone else with more knowledge of Samsung logistic internals to decipher that because it makes no sense to me.

Those with heat problems at least in this thread are Exynos.

Overheating upon bootup

Hi, I have a 1 year old galaxy s7 (snapdragon version) phone,, and it gets extremely warm almost hot literally 1-2 minutes after i power it on.. Then it will cool back down when it sleeps.. I tried wiping the partition and i did a hard reset,, I do not have hardly any apps on it and i disabled almost all of the bloatware.. The phone has 585 charge cycles on it and i would say that the battery life is about 30% reduced from when it was new... It still charges fast, and charges to 100%.. I wonder is changing the battery would solve this overheating problem? I'm Hesitant to do that because I'm afraid the aftermarket battery might be worse than the aging oem one in it.. lol Any ideas? Thanks!

S7 8.0 oreo exynos

The phone use to heat up in intense usage, especially in games. I don't know what they've done, but with the new OREO update, the phone runs "cooler" than ever, even in demanding games, without leakage of smoothness.
