In the OP of this thread (at the very bottom of the OP) is a link to the latest Odin - I used this version of Odin earlier to flash codeworkx kernel to root

Try installing Kies maybe?

This is why I always flash from Linux. Heimdall Just Works - no drivers. :p

Edit: Actually I think when in download mode, the USB VID/PID for all GSIIs is the same.

Yeah, thanks Entropy! I tried the other method (codeworkx kernel then superoneclick) but superoneclick wouldn't work. But flashing your .tar with Odin certainly did the trick!

Question, can we download Rom Manager and flash CWM recovery after flashing this with Heimdall?
No.

My experience with the Infuse (and it will probably remain the same with the GSII) is that ROM Manager recovery often has problems. ROM Manager caused all sorts of softbrick issues with the Infuse.

The way many Samsung phones work is such that the recovery partition does nothing - only the recovery in the kernel's initramfs matters. So the way to install CWM on a Samsung device (definitely the Infuse and AT&T GSII) is to flash a CWM-enabled kernel.

CWM is usually the first feature added to any custom kernel. Codeworkx's kernel includes CWM, I'll probably be posting a CWM-enabled kernel in a day or two.

If you want to, you can flash this system and codeworkx's zImage in one go - then you'll get CWM and root without needing to do the SuperOneClick steps.

Okay, I was trying to use this because I have a mac and therefore have to use heimdall, but I appreciate it. Heimdall on my comp didn't like the package anyway so that saved me some trouble, thanks!

Nice. I was waiting to use mine to decide which method I wanted to use (and maybe wait on some ROMs to appear, but I may stick with stock rooted until someone makes an AOSP). This sounds good.

Which package?

Do you mean the heimdall frontend GUI? I have little experience with that - I always use the command line and included instructions for the commandline version of heimdall in the first post here. In fact, heimdall was tested on a Linux box before Odin was tested with these packages. :)

Successfully just used Heindall Mac version to bring back my phone to stock. I did have to boot into e3 and factory reset, however all worked as expected!
Thanks again
