To install the update download the firmware zip from the asus website. Put it in the internal memory, reboot and it will appear a notification which says that an update is available. Install it. You can also update with the stock recovery (ww sku of course) choosing the option update from sd card

Install : ADB & Minimal Fastboot.
Install : pyton 3.6
Download the latest WW-4.12.40.1698 (For 2.15GHz CPU or 2.40GHz CPU) from Asus WebSite.
Download "Dat to img by stupdroid.com" (search it with google).
Extract Dat to img by stupdroid.com in a Folder.
Open the Firmware ZIP and copy system.new.dat, system.transfer.list e file_contexts in the Dat2IMG's folder.
Execute system.new.dat 2 flashable img converter.exe and just press ENTER and wait till the end of procedure, you will receive 2 files : system.raw.img e system.new.img.
Copy system.new.img in your Fastboot's folder.
Put the Phone into Fastboot mode.
Open fastboot and put this command: " fastboot flash system system_new.img "
Wait the end of flash procedure and type : Fastboot Reboot.
Enter recovery wipe data and cache.
Done.
Flashing in fastboot mode to unbrand works without unlocking the bootloader ?
OTA Updates are working then ?
just to get it clear for me ....

Yes, it works but i don't know if OTA will work. However you can update by zip as i said. After unbrand don't forget to flash the right stock recovery

It worked with some other steps in between because of error 3 when i tried to install the nougat update
so here we go for anyone who tries to unbrand a tim phone and update to nougat without unloacking the bootloader :

same steps as mentioned in #7/#8 but do it with 4.12.40.1505 first !
after that install the 4.12.40.1698 as whole zip from internal memory
then update to nougat with the zip fro internal memory

Hi!

Did I understand correctly that all I need to do is install WW firmware & recovery from SD from the menu we get when starting phone using POWER + VOLUME UP buttons? Or do I need to do all the steps in #7/#8/#11 first? My phone is the TIM version.

My phone is already on Android 7. Do I need to downgrade first? Do I need to unlock bootloader (if not, would it simplify the process if I do?) Can I install recovery once firmware replaced by entering the recovery menu?

I haven't worked with ADB before, so would prefer to avoid using it if possible.

Thanks in advance

To debrand you have to do those steps. You can't install a ww firmware on tim sku. The installation will fail. The debranding procedure won't work with nougat so you have to do it with marshmallow. But i'm not sure. Unlocked bootloader is not needed to debrand. I don't know if it's needed to downgrade and if you have to do it. I don't even know if bootloader unlock tool works on tim sku.
After debrand you have to flash the stock ww sku recovery (with adb, recovery can't be installed with stock recovery) if you did it with 4.12.40.1698 (the recovery must have the same version like the firmware one), then you can update to nougat with the zip or you can debrand with 4.12.40.1505 first and after that install 4.12.40.1698 zip, then update to nougat with the zip as docyester wrote above
You could try only to flash the ww recovery and then the firmware zip but i don't know if it works. Never tried

Thanks for the fast reply.
So I have to downgrade to Android 6 (how do I do that? flash android 6 SKU using same steps as described in #7?)?
Do I have to flash the WW recovery first, or the firmware first, or both in one go?

So far, I have downloaded/installed ADB/Python, and have downloaded WW-5.14.44.2212 firmware & recovery (my phone currently runs latest TIM software, which is TIM-5.14.44.2193. The bootloader unlock tool works on TIM versions as well according to an ASUS technician btw (just for your information, as ASUS have confirmed this after I enquired).

Thanks a lot for your help, highly appreciate it.

If you use 4.12.40.1698 version to debrand then flash the stock recovery. If you use the 4.12.40.1505 install the 4.12.40.1698 as zip from internal memory without flashing the recovery. Now, with android 7.0 tim i don't know ways to debrand. Using 7.0 ww firmware for debranding procedure with python won't work. I don't know if the downgrade is needed or if you can debrand by unlocking bootloader and install android 7.0 with ww sku. Sorry, can't help you :/

OK, so can I just flash WW-4.12.40.1505 if I have the TIM version Android 7 already installed (TIM-5.14.44.2193) or do I need to do anything in order to downgrade?
How do I enter fastboot on phone?
Should I start the phone after flashing firmware, but before flashing recovery, or should I flash both at once?
