Please do not contact me requesting parts or to purchase from me or offering to sell your device to me.
======================================================================

I've repaired many Atrix 4G, so am comfortable with the various repair procedures. To take any number of broken Atrix, salvage and combine working parts to create fully functional phones will help our many talented devs.

This all started becasue earlier this year jeporcellojr and WoodmanMN each donated a faulty Atrix to me. I combined components from both phones to create an Atrix for testing, so that I would not have to be constantly wiping my daily use phone. I had remaining, working Atrix parts that could be used to resurrect other Atrix from the dead. On 3/17/2013 I saw a post by th3bill requesting help for scott.hart and decided to create this thread.

All donated devices/parts will be used to put phones in the hands of our devs. This thread will be used to document all donations and grouped into projects focused on a specific developer need.

I welcome developer nominations too please: either those up and coming or accomplished Atrix developers or those who have worked with other phones and are interested in joining the Atrix developer community.

Feel free to PM me.

Project 1 (Start 3/17/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on 3/23/2013)
Atrix #1 is for Scott
: Please see this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39220013&postcount=41

Required:
1) battery (it's missing)

Preferred:
2) glass (the digitizer) plus frame (screen is shattered)
3) Ribbon cable with ear piece (this is likely causing digitizer glitches with touch input)
4) LCD (some damage, hard to see the top of the screen)

Optional:
5) new battery cover (existing is scratched)

Update 3/17/2013: Wow, what an amazing response! Many thanks to Fastrite, joeygee23 and Grey.Mouser! It would appear that there is a stock pile en route already! Based on the PMs I've received, it sounds like we may have everything we need for the first repaired Atrix. The glass touch digitizer may be the only item we don't have covered. Once I've tested with the best of all the parts, I'll know for sure. If I receive more parts, including good digitizers we will already be on our way to being able to provide an Atrix to another valued developer.

Update 3/23/2013: Turns out Grey.Mouser lives about 20 miles from me, so we met up on Monday evening. Two Atrix received! Wow, what a generous donation! Not only does he have good taste in phones, but he also has good taste in cars. I set to work on Monday evening testing the devices. One of the Atrix was near perfect with a external SD card slot issue, the other with a touch digitizer issue. Working on both today, I swapped the necessary components to create one perfect Atrix. The testing has been completed and shipping to Scott today. This concludes project #1. Now it's time for project #2. Please post or PM me any nominations you may have. EDIT: I decided to throw in a standard media dock to help with audio testing. This is the version with the micro USB connector and analog audio out. The perfect desk or bedside accessory.

Update 3/27/2013: received word from Scott that an Atrix with dock has landed. Great news and we're all excited to bring project 1 to this level.

Update 4/2/2013: Scott tells me that he has made much progress over the past few days. I for one am very excited about Scott's work and him releasing a ROM for the Atrix in the near future.

Update 4/7/2013: Great news. Have you checked out the Bean Stalk for Atrix 4G thread lately? You can find it over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39130150 Turns out that Scott has been busy modifying code to build out the amazing Bean Stalk ROM to be compatible with the Atrix. Bill has released the update and it rocks. There is so much packed in there and worth following closely. Thanks Scott for all your time and hard work, to achieve this milestone for the Atrix. We're all excited to see what you'll do next!

Project 2 (Start 3/23/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on 4/9/2013)
Atrix #2 is for cougarcougar

Required components:
1) Glass (the digitizer) plus frame (the top 1cm is unresponsive)
2) LCD (some damage, hard to see the top of the screen)

Update 3/25/2013: I had a PM from mutemule today and the Atrix is en route. I'll evaluate the mb to determine if it's recoverable. This device will enable us to wrap up projects 2 and 3. Still seeking a developer commitment. Please get your thinking caps on and post your thoughts.

Update 3/28/2013: ASwagBoy made a nomination of developer cougarcougar who has accepted.

Update 3/28/2013: It seems that there is a concentration of Android talent in this part of the country as I met up with joeygee23 this evening who lives a mere 10 miles from me. He delivered one very nice looking Atrix which is having some issues preventing it from booting. It's entering the operating room now. More to follow soon.

Update 3/28/2013: Ok, so here's the skinny. The motherboard has a broken clamp for the camera connector, so consider project 3 a done deal. We won't use this part for a fully functional Atrix, but it's perfect for what project 3 requires. A working motherboard from project 1 (thanks to Grey.Mouser) was installed into the phone as well as a battery (thanks to Grey.Mouser). Boot was fine, LCD perfect (from joeygee23), but digitizer was unresponsive. I then replaced the ribbon cable (from Grey.Mouser again) for the ear piece which is where the digitizer connector is. Still no joy. So bottom line is that the touch digitizer is most likely the issue here. There is an Atrix en route from mutemule, which is fully functional, but experiencing a boot issue. I'll either resolve the boot issue and leave as is for round up project 2, or move the digitizer and LCD to the phone donated by joeygee23. All in all, I'm very happy with the progress and can't say thank you enough to joeygee23 and Grey.Mouser for their follow through on donating their unneeded hardware for this project. You guys are awesome! Stay tuned!

Update 4/2/2013: No additional hardware received yet to wrap up project 2. No worries though, I' m sure we'll see some soon. :)

Update 4/9/2013 part 1: The Canadian Geese have landed and one Atrix received per mutemule's promise. Hardware evaluation to follow later tonight. What a generous donation from mutemule. We send our thanks!

Update 4/9/2013 part 2: An eval of the hardware donated by mutemule revealed no issues. The symptoms were related to the initial boot screen and there being no ROM to boot. Here's what I did: entered recovery; formatted /osh, /system, /data, /cache, /emmc; inserted my micro SD with lots of zip files; flashed an upgraded recovery, radio 37p, epinter's CM10, bluesleep fix, gapps. All booted 100% ok (initial boot screen issue still occurring). At this point the phone was perfect, minus the boot logo. So I found the Moto boot logo, connected USB, put into fastboot and pushed the boot logo to the phone. Rebooted and ta-daaaaa. Thanks to mutemule for this epic donation. This concludes Project 2. The generously donated hardware from joeygee23 moves to project 4 and it'll be updates on project 2 from here on out. I had a PM from last week cougarcougar who is stoked! He informs me that he has work in queue for the Atrix with gingerDX. We can't wait to see what he is able to create, both independently, as well as future collaborative efforts with our growing pool of talented developers. You guys seriously rock! We'll keep the updates coming! :cowboy:

Update 4/15/2013: I had a PM from cougarcougar to let me know that he received the phone. Woo hoo! My guess is that GingerDX for the Atrix 4G will be arriving soon. Many thanks to all for on this one. Follow this space for updates.

Project 3 (Start 3/24/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on 3/28/2013)
Atrix #3 is for lehjr

Krystianp nominated Lehjr who is working to complete full jtag port access without removing component shields.

We'll be identifying a suitable motherboard to ship to lehjr in the coming day or two.

Update 3/28/2013: After receiving an Atrix from joeygee23 earlier this evening (what a great guy by the way), the dismantled Atrix revealed a motherboard with broken clamp on the ribbon connector base for the camera. We can't use it for a fully functioning Atrix, but this is a perfect candidate for what lehjr is looking for. It's shipping out tonight and will probably arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Project 3 is officially complete. I'm sure we'll here back on his progress. Heck, if he melts the thing to kingdom come, we'll just have to hook him up with another defective motherboard. Project 3 was made possible by joeygee23. We thank you Joe! Here she is:

Update 4/2/2013: I had a PM from lehjr yesterday. He received the MB and completed some surgery. He wrote, "I received the board today, and as far as getting at the JTAG without taking off the whole shield, it went very well so far. I still have to order a connector and try and solder that in there." Nice work Leon! We look forward to hearing how the next step goes.

Project 4 (Start 3/28/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on 4/25/2013)
Atrix #4 is for th3bill

Required components:
1) Glass (the digitizer) plus frame (it's completely unresponsive)
2) LCD (some damage, hard to see the top of the screen)
3) Battery (missing)

Optional components:
4) Motherboard (the external SD card slot is flaky)

Update 4/2/2013: on 3/31 Cocolopes nominated tom3q. I received a very nice PM from Tom yesterday and he's very interested in our work over here. Unfortunately, he's committed to other projects, which leave him with zero capacity to directly participate in additional projects. In the mean time,we'll keep working to identify a developer for project 4. By then, we may have the hardware side of the project 4 wrapped up also. The timing of both will likely be spot on.

Update 4/7/2013: I saw a post by th3bill where he mentions his Atrix has some issues, (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39954820) so I decided to send a PM to see if we could help. Well, I have great news. I just heard back from Bill and he's accepted. Some additional good news is that he has a phone to contribute, which I will essentially repair, and send back to him. The camera and digitizer need to be replaced. The item I don't have in stock though is a digitizer, so until I have one Bill's going to hang onto his phone. I'll provide more details when I have them.

Update 4/8/2013: I have some great news. Punkrocknerd has donated an Atrix! He tells me it has an issue with the digitizer. Well, we will certainly put this phone to good use to rebuild a working phone for project 2 or project 4. We send out thanks to Punkrocknerd for his generosity and will keep the updates on use of hardware coming.

Update 4/9/2013: We have inherited unneeded hardware from project 2. Based on what I have and what I know is already en route, the only thing we are missing is a digitizer. If you can help, we will have one very happy developer by he name of th3bill!!

Update 4/20/2013: I've decided to bite the bullet and purchase a digitizer for this project. Woo hooo! :D It should be here sometime later next week.

Update 4/25/201: Ok, so the digitizer arrived today and I set about oing the work to replace. First test and it would appear the the center stripe was dead. Grrrr... So I set about replacing other components to verify it wasn't something else... no luck. Good job I ordered more than one as then went onto replacing the screen a second time and this time perfect. I then went on to complete a thorough evaluation and test and all systems are green for go. Shipped by USPS tonight.

Project 5 (Start 4/9/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on 5/21/2013)
Atrix #5 is for Notorious544d

Required components:
1) Glass (the digitizer) plus frame (it's completely unresponsive)

Update 4/9/2013: We have a surplus of hardware that pretty much will wrap up this project as soon as we have a developer nomination and the required hardware. Here's why... th3bill (project 4) plans to ship his faulty Atrix to me once I get a fully functional Atrix to him or vice versa. The bottom line is that we are motoring right along, with a very short list of required hardware. Funny, it seems that it's the digitizers that are the most common defect on the Atrix. Note to all phone users out there... wrap your phone in an Otterbox defender before you drop it.

Update 4/24/2013: Announcement 1: We have Notorious544d earmarked as the recipient for the Atrix from project 5. Knowing that project 4 will soon be complete, we also know that there will be all hardware ready for project 5, with the exception of the digitizer. Announcement 2: I forgot to mention that I already ordered the digitizer needed to complete project 5. She'll be completed in the approximately one week after project 4, pending receipt of the defective Atrix from Th3bill. Announcement 3: Notorious544d has graciously agreed to send his defective Atrix to me which is the basis for another project.

Update 5/19/2013: I had neglected to provide an update on this project a couple of weeks ago when we decided, but Notorious544d has an Atrix 4G that is sim locked to his carrier, so I'm going to repair his device and ship back to him. This will eliminate the added complexity of a developer having hardware that is potentially suited to a specific market.

Update 5/21/2013: I received the defective Atrix today and replaced the digitizer. All hardware tests were perfect. Shipping it out today. Looking forward to seeing what is in store for us by Notorious544d.

Project 6 (Start 4/24/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on TBD)
Atrix #6 is for spleef

Required components: None. I already ordered the digitizer to pair with the defective Atrix that will be returned by Th3bill and I have a spare camera to replace the defective camera in the phone th3bill is returning.

Update 4/24/2013: Th3bill has nominated Spleef who I'll be contacting. Stay tuned!

Update 4/25/2013: Spleef PMed me and he's in! It's going to be great to see have him amongst us again.

Update 4/25/2013: Project 4 is complete, which means we'll be seeing Bill's defective Atrix in the next week and be ready to wrap up project 6.

Project 7 (Start 5/1/2013, Atrix shipped to dev on 6/11/2013)
Atrix #7 is for lehjr

It turns out that Leon knows lots about Android and a freshly rejuvenated Atrix 4G in his hands will be like icing on a cake for one of our favorite projects on XDA. ;)

Required components:

A good LCD with a whole case and battery is what I don't have. If we can get an Atrix with a bad motherboard, I can take care of the rest. The SD card slot on the motherboard I have is flaky, so if we end up with two Atrix, one with a good motherboard and smashed screen, one with a mad motherboard and good LCD, then we can ship a perfect device.

Update 5/10/2013: dupont24 has donated a whole Atrix 4G. Yes, you read that correctly, a whole Atrix 4G. He tells me that it is in perfect condition! First and foremost, this is a pretty special project (#7) as the recipient (lehjr) is doing things with the Atrix, that even when explained, make hard core look like a cake walk. The generosity of dupont24 is very, very well received and on behalf of the whole community, thank you! We are genuinely excited about this news and it could not have come at a better time. In addition, I am excited that Leon will be able to put his dremel away for a while and get his name up in lights on code.google.com. It's all thanks to dupont24!!

Update 5/19/2013: amddayalan has donated an Atrix with defective digitizer! It's shipping from India, so has some miles to travel before it finds me. We thank you amddayalan for recognizing the value of gifting. I can assure you that we will repair your donated Atrix and pair with our developer community. What an incredible community we have!

Update 6/7/2013: Great news everyone, fryfreek has donated an Atrix! He tells me it has a dieing digitizer and some wifi issues. Well, we will certainly put this hardware to good use. :) We're going to have to get a project 8 going soon. :) Thanks fryfreek!

Update 6/11/2013: Houston we have lift off! Atrix shipping to Leon.

I need to get some spare batteries (the washing/dryer ate my last spare!) so I can donate 1 when they arrive. PM or email me some details of where to send please.
A very generous offer for the battery has been received. Thanks Fastrite!

Also, I updated the first post. The parts mentioned would really help us in achieving the goal.

I have 2 with hardware issues and I have no time for repairing them. One has a digiter glitch (only half screen working), the other has a loose SD card slot and SD rarely works (good digitizer tho). send me an address and I'll ship them to you.
Two Atrix have been donated by Grey.Mouser. I was not expecting such an amazing response! Thank you, thank you!

I think krystrianp needs a digitiser/ LCD if anyone knows of a spare?

Project 2 has a developer nomination. Thanks ASwagBoy.

ASwagBoy said:
Hey... I want to nominate a developer: "cougarcougar", his work on the Photon 4G is awesome, he needs an Atrix for testing his ROMs and I'm sure that when the 3.1.10 kernel will be released he can port and build some ROMs for our Atrix, besides continuing the development of CyanMobile.
Sorry for my english.
The nomination was accepted by cougarcougar this morning. What awesome news!
