help downgrading a replacment hero

hi guys i just got a new hero as old one died, i was going to downgrade it and install instant root the problem is every time i connect it to my pc it comes up as a HTC Dream..

anyway here is info you will need

im running windows 7 x64 ultimate
its a stock orange uk htc hero running the 2.73.61.66 ROM

so what i wanted to do was downgrade to version 2.73.61.5 and use instantroot.apk then install new recovery image and flash back to villainrom coz i forgot how bad 1.5 is

Install HTC Sync and the plug the phone in with USB debugging on. It should recognise it as My HTC and allow you to run the downgrade exe. Details are in my guide if you are unsure as a part of the "test downgrade procedure" - just do section i as you won't need a goldcard itself just the driver changes.
