Question Help me decide between the S22 and S22+

So my main driver today is an S8+. Before this, I used an S8. I used to prefer smaller phones but I can see that going with a bigger phone has its fair share of advantages (and disadvantages, of course) so I'm really confused which one to get between the S22 and S22+. I saw both phones physically yesterday and compared them side by side. I think I'm ok with the size of the S22+ because I tend to use my phone with browsing forums and watching Youtube videos. I do not do gaming. Here are some of my main concerns:

1. Battery life -> I know the S22+ wins in this category but is 4500mAH vs 3700mAH really significant? I rarely upgrade my phone (evident by the fact that I'm still using S8+) so I want to know if going with a bigger battery (and size) is the wiser choice.
2. I also use my phone in bed before sleeping. With m S8+, my pinky finger serves servers as like a stand for the phone while I'm lying down and looking at the screen (I think most people do this) so I'm worried that getting a bigger 6.6" phone (S22+) will make my pinky finger hurt even more. Would getting a case with a strap at the back (like the official silicon case for the S22/S22+) solve this issue?
3. Is the difference in brightness level between the phones that significant?
4. Does the S22 have wifi 6 only or is it like the S22+ that has wifi 6E? I'm getting mixed information regarding this because some sites say that both have 6E while others say that only the S22+ and S22 Ultra have 6E.

The difference in size and weight between the S22+ and S8+ is negligible. Go for the S22+. Get the 256GB model. You'll like the extra storage space since the S22 series does not have a microSD slot.

S22 battery life is absolutely ridiculous even with average use and no gaming. If I would start over again, I would go with +.

I just transfer my photos to my NAS whenever the phone complained about low storage capacity and this is not something that I do often.

Well overnight battery drain of 12%. 85% to 20% from 6 Am to 2 pm with average use like whatsapp, data and wifi with a bit of maps. With even less use, it last about 7 pm.

Don't even think about s22 it's very worst in terms of battery life also lagging like hell. Go with s22+ or better switch to iPhone. I am now regretting my decision of switching from iphone to s22.

Take the last two posts with a grain of salt. To be fair. The 128GB Exynos models (S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra) are having issues, but you can't get the Exynos here in the US.

My wife has the S22+ (256GB) and daughter has the S22 (256GB). Both get decent battery life and there is no lag or stuttering. They are much heavier users than I am with my S22 Ultra. They constantly are streaming videos and music. Both are the Snap Dragon models.

Are you sure were looking at the S22+ and not the S22 Ultra. There is a significant difference between the Ultra and the Plus.

The difference between the S22+ and the S8+ is really small. The S8+ is actually 0.08in longer than the S22+. The S22+ is 0.09in wider though. The weight difference is because the S22+ has a larger display and a bigger battery. The perceived difference is probably from the fact that the S22+ has smaller bezels which allows for a larger display. The screen to body ratio for the S22+ is 89.71%. Whereas the S8+ is 83.32%. That is a 6.39% increase which accounts for the 0.4in increase in display size.

Yeah. I do the same thing, offload my photos to my NAS. I don't wait until I am short on space though. I do it about every two to three weeks.

Don't get the S22 unless you're sadistic you like hurting yourself.
I left a few comments in other threads advising people to stay away from from this piece of crap because it's a complete fail due to the small battery inside paired with a very inefficient CPU.
So get the S22+ without even thinking of the small variant.
If I were you though, I'd skip this lineup completely. Qualcomm went with Samsung's node for the 8 Gen 1 and it was a complete fail. Samsung wasn't able to produce a good quality product. They moved back to TSMC though and the 8+ Gen 1, which is supposed to be a refresh with very small gains according to history so to speak, and the gains, especially in the efficiency department are pretty friggin extreme. 30% better efficiency for practically the same chip... Insane. You usually see that in a next generation chipset.
Back to the skipping the lineup completely, I'd wait a little longer and get a device with the new 8 Plus Gen 1 inside just because TSMC is simply superior at creating CPUs. Also it needs to be big, or at least bigger than the S22, otherwise you'll be in a world of pain. In the Android world, you gotta go big for decent battery life.

Oh ok. So I just stay with my slow S8+ for now? How long does Samsung usually take to release their next flagship model? Are there any leaks about the 8+ Gen1 being on any phone soon? I'm pretty convince in going with a bigger phone than what I have now.

Yeah, I'm from the Philippines and we also get the Snapdragon here, so no worries about Exynos.

Yeah, I'm sure I was looking at the S22+ and not the Ultra. I knew right away which one was the Ultra so I didn't even bother checking it out. But yeah, it might be just me getting excited to see them for the first time. I checked the dimensions on that website again and they are pretty spot on.

I'm now reading about the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and it looks like it is indeed better than the 8 Gen 1. At this point, I'm not sure if I should wait for the next S series from Samsung (next year) or go with the upcoming Flip which will have the 8+ Gen 1 chip. I just don't like how long the Flip is but waiting for another half a year for probably the S23 will be very hard for me too

I wasn't referring to getting a Samsung phone. The next Samsung flagship lineup will have the next gen chipsets. I was talking about a different device from a different company. If I were to really need an upgrade right now, I'd get a Pixel 6 Pro or a OnePlus 10 Pro. The 10 Pro has better hardware on paper so if that's your thing, I'd go for that. The battery inside is big and the phone apparently doesn't have any heating up issues or at least not the same as Samsung devices have. If you really want to stay with Samsung, the previous generation is better with unnoticeable performance differences but better battery life. Not to mention that you'd be able to get an S21 Plus for much cheaper.
Devices with the 8 Gen 1 Plus will be coming out in the next months. The 8 Gen 2 is apparently supposed to be made available in November so you can imagine that the Gen 1 Plus is really close to being put to use.
The idea is that the usage I get from my S22 is with normal usage. 3h SOT to me is terrible but my math is close to perfect and I've had constant numbers based on that. A person said to take the above comments with a grain of salt. I'm afraid it's not possible with the regular S22. The phone is a complete fail no matter how you look at it. If someone's is claiming they get good battery but the rest of the users are complaining that they don't, that means the phone has terrible battery life. An again, the math I did proves that there's too few milliamps for you to get good battery life. Also, the charging speed is pathetic. It would've made sense for the damn thing to charge faster if the battery life is terrible. That way you'd have had at least the option to plug it in for a few minutes ang get an extra 2 hours SOT just like that. A OP 10 Pro charges to 100% in 30 minutes. If I got 4h SOT on that, I honestly wouldn't even care about SOT anymore because I can leave it plugged in for 5 minutes and get a pretty fat chunk of battery back. Samsung basically ripped people off this year with a terrible phone.
My 2 cents though. You go on and do whatever you think is best, of course. But you asked for advice so my advice is to not get an S22. Get either an S22+ or a OP 10 Pro which is superior.

It's statements like these that make me leery. It makes me wonder if the person making these statements are getting paid to.

I agree with everything @dragos281993 said!
You can eventually get used to everything this phone does.. stutters, heating etc. But the biggest let down is the battery.

I'd honestly advice to stay away from S22. But if you really want it then at least get the S22+
But real advice, go for a different brand, maybe pixel or One plus. Or if you can live with ios, then get an iphone.

There are other phones coming soon. maybe the Nothing phone (will need to wait for the reviews). or if you can then wait for the year end, then im sure better phones will be out.

I could say the same about you. Claiming that someone you know gets decent battery life or no lags and stutters is pretty crazy considering that the vast majority of users is experiencing the opposite. The phone overheats and it throttles down most of the time, especially if it's hot outside. Therefore the battery performs worse and you end up with framedrops everywhere, which not everyone cares about or notices. Lag is a different thing though and I wasn't talking about that in my other posts. Stutters/framedrops are very present.
I wish though that someone paid me to write comments on the internet. I can't imagine how that'd work though.
Anyway, I'm currently stuck with an S22 so I'm trying to help others understand why they should stay away from it, and warn them of the pain they're about to go through. The phone is trash and even Samsung knows it. The chip inside is too much for it to handle and the battery simply too small. I went quite in-depth in other threads on this matter, and I speak in milliamps and precise measurements because I experienced it myself. I even rooted it to try some power tweaks but nope, same results. I hate this thing so much I even rock it without any protection right now. If I drop it and it shatters into 1000 pieces, I won't be mad.
The frame is very easily scratched and the same goes for the screen. Mine both look like I dragged my phone on concrete. It's that bad in terms of durability too.
But you know what? I wish the guy who asked for help actually buys the S22. You can learn from others' mistakes and easily avoid disaster, or ignore that and experience it yourself, firsthand. My bet is he'll return it.

It's not a half baked phone. There are a few trolls on here that only speak for themselves. They make it seem like most people who bought one hate it. That's not even close to being true.

If you're going to wait for the S23 series, keep in mind that Samsung is cutting production numbers for next year because of the ongoing chip shortages.

Well, looks like you own a S22 and its working well for you. I'm glad that it is. The OP asked for reviews/feedback so we as a community provided. You can provide your positive reviews and for the people who have had a bad experience will provide theirs.. Do remember that just because your S22 is good does not mean everyone has the same experience.. Lets just provide the feedback and let the OP take a call instead of pointing fingers at each other.

But it is also priced higher.
So for more money it has better specs.

It depends on what you like using.

Here is my example:
I had the Redmi K20 Pro and loved it for its size. It got damaged so I bought myself a Poco F3 with a fairly bigger screen (I felt like giving bigger phones a try). It's a great phone that I still use as a backup but I got the base S22 because I realized that I need something that fits easily in the pocket, even with a case on. And with the F3, I was always terrified of it flying out of my pocket while on the move.

To conclude, the S22 is a good choice if you want a small-ish flagship. The S22+ is a good choice if you want a bigger device and are willing to spend more money. It all depends on your own preference, so I'd suggest going to some store that has both the S22 and S22+ on display and see which one you prefer.
