Help me with Bluetooth

I have a bluetooth question and it's not specific to this tablet. And, it may not be fixable. I leave bluetooth on all the time for all my devices. It's necessary for keyboards, car stereo, etc.

I have my main bluetooth speaker paired with my phone (a Note 3) and my Note 10.1. However, when I turn the speaker on it automatically connects to the phone. This is a problem because the phone may be downstairs while I'm upstairs with the tablet. I want to play music from the tablet but find I have to go downstairs and turn off bluetooth on the phone and then go back upstairs to play music from the tablet.

Is there a way for me to force which device gets control of the bluetooth speaker? Can I send an I-want-the-speaker command to the phone to have the phone release it's stranglehold on the speaker?

It's frustrating behavior having a speaker that doesn't do what I want. Yeah, I could buy a speaker for every floor but that's not the economical.

You either have to switch BT off every time, or the speaker. If you switch off BT on the Note, the speaker may enter standby, and you have to activate both the speakers and Bt the next time.

Unpair the phone. Use the 10.1 for a minute then pair the phone again. That will probably give the 10.1 preference.
