I read @ Lenovo forums similar issues with nougat updates, is not exclusive problem for moto z. After hours making test my phone goes on boot loop again.
Reading moto g4 plus forum I learned that the only way is changing the micro sd card, and it is so curious that only Samsung cards cause the bootloop, some users with SanDisk memories are ok without problems.
I think I found that same forum thread (
here). Seems they were able to obtain the interest of a Motorola employee (MotorolaTom), but he seemed to drop off the scene after mid-April with no further updates as to whether Motorola found anything from their investigation.
I feel sorry for the few folks on this thread that have already sent their phone back.
I can confirm that removal of the SD allowed my phone to boot successfully.
Once bootup was finished, and I logged into the phone, I went ahead and popped the SIM tray back out again to insert the SD card. Upon insert, the "missing SD" notification went away and everything (data/apps) on the phone seem to be working as expected.
I decided to reboot again while the SD card was inserted. Same issue as before. Phone attempts to boot.. takes a long time.. then the blue "moto" boot screen flashes (black) then comes back and waits another long time before showing the "No command" recovery screen.
Removal of the SD card once more, booting phone, and it quickly moves past the blue "moto" screen and proceeds onto the Lenovo/Droid/Verizon animated boot screen. The phone then finished bootup rather quickly, after which I once again inserted the SD card and it functions as expected with no issues.
Coincidentally, I was planning on switching to a new Moto Z2 Force this week. As such, I pre-purchased a Sandisk Extreme microSDXC UHS-1 128GB card for use in that phone. I'm going to go ahead and try to boot my Moto Z Droid with the Sandisk 128GB to see what the results are there.

Update:
The Sandisk 128GB card booted just fine. Since I plan on using this card in the new phone, I didn't want to load it up with data/apps/etc. I'm not sure whether any amount of data is required for this issue to manifest itself.
For reference, if you plan on staying with the Samsung 128GB, here's the best procedure for rebooting your phone:
1. Power off the device.
2. Use the SIM card removal device to pop the tray out (You don't have to remove it entirely, just un-seat it a tad bit)
3. Power on the device.
4. As soon as the phone begins the animated Lenovo/Droid bootup sequence you can re-insert the SIM/SD card tray.
The phone should continue booting up successfully with no notifications or errors for the SIM/SD card, and the apps/data/media on the SD card should function as expected with no issues.
