Hello everyone,
i got the problem after i flashed a stock JB nandroid backup with stock kernel + modules and a stock recovery, my HOX has no signal and the airplane mode is pernantly enabled.

I have a:
HOX (Tegra3)
H-Boot: 1.36
CID: Vodap102

My signal bar has only the little x.
I tried everything what people offers in this forum to fix it but with no help.
And vodafone do not released the RUU for JB yet and i really dunno how i could get it.
I have S-ON so i cant downgrade my H-Boot and i cant change my CID...

I asked for the repair service at HTC but i really dont spend 250 bucks for that...
My Radio shows nothing also my IMEI and all carrier related informations.

I hope someone can help me here to fix this... i really dunno what to do...

Thx in advance

Flash the boot.img from the nandroid backup (its in the backup folder) then make a full wipe, then restore the nandroid

Must work like this. You speak of kernel + modules ?

Modules are in the nandroid backup and will be restored automatically.

Was the device fully functional when you took the nandroid backup?

Flash boot.img and then erase cache.. go to recovery

Use this script before restoring the backup: http://d-h.st/kG0 (Flash it via recovery)

Now restore backup! If you still can't get off from airplane mode, then download a nandroid backup from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975140 and do the whole process again!

@vin4yak Can you give another link, because this: http://d-h.st/kG0 is not working for me. I met the same problem. no signal, and airplane mode is on.

*It's working now* thanks ill do the same. boot, erase catche, super wipe, restore.
Same story :( No matter which rom i install nandroid backup or arhd or renovate (now) it's same stuck in "turning airplane mode off" Soft reset, hard reset, battery pull, full wipe everything tested and still no luck :(

Have you flashed the boot.img??
If you have, try reinstalling the ROM.

Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

I have flashed boot, rom, rom, rom, nandroid, rom rom rom boot.img I've done nearly everything. :)
The phone is from 2nd hand and i buy'd him with this problem (airplane mode turning off, no service, no imei, wifi is ok)
I'm trying to figure out what to change next. maybe radio ? :D

P.S now i can finally turn off that "few bad words" airplane mode. But... no service and no imei.... Is that possible to fake imei ? somehow cheat the phone. I have my own IMEI it would'n be under law, right ?

Also, some phone details:
android 4.0.4
Radio 5.1204.162.29
hboot: 1.39.0000
cid HTC_102
Main version 3.14.401.31

Also, then i try to call emergency (112 in my country) It says that "turning on radio" what that means ?

Radio means signal.

There is also the possibility that the phone is blacklisted and stolen !!!
I don't think so. I have orig box, orig usb cable, headset, charger. I think it would be to difficult to steal phone from person/shop with everything ^^

Also, if nothing happens in these days, i'm planning to buy another One x with cracked screen. Is it possible somehow to check that phone ? About servise, airplane mode, imei, etc ? what parrameters i should check ? I understand that i need to insert sim ant call from another phone to that, to check the signal, but what else ? :) Thanks for reply.

In my experience when this happens you forgot to wipe cache and Dalvik cache. When you do that after flashing a custom kernel or rom you will see after the reboot that Android is updating the apps. Then it starts up and you're not in an Airplane loop.

Nah never had that once in my 3 years of flashing.......

The solution

Hello people,

I had this extremely annoying problem and tried nearly every rational or irrational so-called "solution" (flashing custom roms, restoring nandroid backups, meddling with kernels, pressing and holding the power button for ten seconds, etc.) to no avail.

I think this solution is the only definitive one and I've stumbled upon it by mistake while I was looking at the mainboard circuitry to figure out whether something was off and then realized that one of the antenna right below the micro usb port was broken. Since I previously had opened my phone up to fix the wi-fi issue and for a battery replacement, I cannot account for how the antenna broke but I do know now that the problem is due to lack of contact between the antenna and the little plate in the back cover (similar to the wi-fi problem explained in length here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1688538) and it's probably what is happening to most of you who has been unable to fix the issue with a simple kernel flash.

QUICK NOTE: This fix involves minor repair; you will have to open the back cover and possibly do some soldering (you do not even need to unscrew anything).

Here is what you need to do:

1. Remove the back cover (it can be tricky the fist time, there are tons of tutorials on youtube)
2. Locate the antenna right below the micro usb port on the mainboard (I am talking about the ones mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2130751)
3. Check if they are intact; if so, try to lift them softly so that they will contact the plate corresponding to them on the back cover (the vertical, rectangular gold plate).
4. If they are not intact or if you want a more permanent fix or just like soldering stuff, apply solder. Again, the main idea is to have them contact the plate, you can get creative if you want.
5. Put the phone back together and jump in the air.

Conclusion: In my case (and I suspect in many others'), the issue was the antenna which is probably for DLNA. I have read so many threads and it appears even the HTC repair people are unaware of this fix and opt for replacing the entire mainboard. This is a relatively easy and cheap fix and I hope it helps others.

Cheers!
