There are a lot of people joining XDA on a daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked
which clutter up the Development and 'Q & A' threads. Point them here. Feel free to ask or answer questions.

The idea of this thread is to get users to help other users with their problems/questions. People are usually
ridiculed for asking questions that other people deem stupid even though it may be a legitimate question. This
leads to new users being afraid to ask questions!

Only provide well mannered help towards users in this thread. Please do not spoon feed, but rather point in
the direction where that user can find an answer
and educate himself. If you don't want to answer, at least
point out where to find the answer.

Before posting anything, I strongly advise you to read THIS thread.

Then, have a quick look at the names of threads in Post No. 2, you might find what you need right away.

Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please do come back and read threads in Post No. 2
(coming later as soon as we start getting the guides) to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time
and frustration it will save you in the future!

No abuse towards noobs tolerated here! That means:
NO TROLLING
NO NAME CALLING
NO RIDICULING
NO FLAMING

ASK ANY QUESTION HERE! No question is stupid or irrelevant in this thread. You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.

Hi!
I have a samsung SM-A520F that is unrooted, has factory software. For some reason app permissions - phone/storage both have the same 57 entries with permission enabled that I don't recognize. All 57 follow this format:
com.samsung.Dream_A11y_lowvision.accesscontrol
com.samsung.Dream_A11y_lowvision.firewall
com.samsung.Dream_A11y_lowvision.inputmethod
com.samsung.Dream_A11y_lowvision.japan

Googling any of this gave me no results. Any idea what these are? Should I be concerned about this at all?

cm-12.1-20160425-unofficial-kyleve lollipop rom auto restarts trying to find a fix, didn't know where to ask the question, forgive me,,thanks for any help

A clean flash, often, can solve this, either, formatting data previous to the installation, or doing it, after, before to boot. Of course, all that, is assuming that the ROM is good to run, but...if this is the ROM you are talking about https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...s7392-lmy49g-cyanogenmod-12-1.3322742/page-31 it has terrible reviews, so, no guarantee at all.
A clean flash should return you to the state before it started rebooting. But if its always been the case, you are simply back to a clean reboot, but still a reboot.

Another less nuclear approach is to go into recovery and wipe you cache and dalvik.

I havent seen it on recent android versions, but a last_kmsg log is what is used top track random reboots. Its basically a logcat of the previous boot. ie the one that randomly rebooted.

If you are rooted, some other options I havent used myself in decoding a boot loop, but I have baked into my app for that rainy day. TeMeFI The link is in my signature. To d=find the numerous boot-logging options, use the Magnifying glass is the flyout toolbar and search for "boot%log"

Also look at boot chart

As a complete newb (and I do mean *complete*), I’d like to find a relatively modern, widely supported phone to root and tinker with. I’m thinking S20 or newer, but it appears any US market version of those options will have a locked bootloader. How does everyone source phones to tinker with?

If I purchase an asian market phone, say an S21 SM-G991F, can I expect it to have the correct wireless hardware to function in North America? Is there an easier option than trying to track down a gray market phone from a foreign market?

Get a Pixel. The a series is quite reasonably priced.

There’s an idea! I had my mind stuck on Samsung options, because that’s what I most commonly saw being utilized in my professional experience (very narrow, specific and obscure application), which is a large seed to my motivation to learn more and start to build my ‘toolbox’ for this stuff.

Some quick digging suggests Verizon Pixel 6a’s will still have a locked bootloader. Am I safe to assume a factory unlocked US-market handset would allow unlocking the bootloader via the dev options menu? I really have no use for the phone outside a learning tool, and budget is always a battle, so I’m trying to make the most educated investment I can, so I don’t wind up with something locked.

Thanks for the tip!

Yeah. Get the (carrier) unlocked model directly from Google if you can.

They recently flashed a ROM, so I just assuming they did it over the existent. Some ROMs require clean flashing. I realized many times that, Android didn´t boot because of that. Flashing even a ROM over a very similar ROM, I noticed that some overlays still remain, if formatting is not done, that´s not good for performance, and can result on a device not booting.
Another less nuclear approach is to go into recovery and wipe you cache and dalvik.
Personally, never wiping cache and dalvik (only) solved.

Yes I agree easy is relative, and I guess that would also mean it depends on how integral the manufactures bloatware is to their own ROM on whether it is "easier" to remove the bloatware or develop my own ROM.
I usually take as a group for devices, based on the processor, this is a kind of general rules for every that is in there. There are other criteria, of course, Android version, for example, that makes different some things, like R/W properties, partition scheme, etc.
Removing bloatware is exactly the same for every device out there, there are some apps that, although you can remove them, you shouldn´t though.
It's good to know that I wasn't finding it because it is obscure and not because I'm now forum inept.
you wouldn´t for this specific device (most likely) but based yourself in information like processor and Android version, this can ease the seek.
So as someone that is new to XDA, how do I start to create some breadcrumbs for us ulefone users. Can I make a Ulefone manufacturer subforum, or is that admins only? If I can then I'll start my own thread for my progress on a ROM for the Ulefone Armor 12 5G in that subforum, otherwise what subforum should I start my ROM build thread in so I don't mess up the archival process...
You can ask admins to create a forum, in the meantime you can create a post, in general questions, if time after, the forum is created, admin can move your thread to there.

They say restarting is caused by kernel issues

Redmi Note 10 Pro
Hey

It has been a long time since I posted - had to create a new account as forgot the details of the old one!

I have previously flashed a Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro from its official chinese rom to Xiaomi EU successfully so have some experience from 2 years ago!
------

I now own a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro with FW MIUI Global 14.0.2

I have got to the stage where the waiting 160 hours is over and I can unlock my bootloader.

I want to move from MIUI Global 14.0.2 to PixelOS located in this post

Could someone help me with a guide/tutroial on what I need to do after I unlock the bootlader ot flash to this rom? The instructions do not cover this and I struggled to find how to install a custom rom on xiaomi redmi note 10 pro from official.

Thank you!

The first you´d need is a custom ROM...

yes, that's what i meant. I didn't find a Custom Rom for the Zenfone 5 Lite(ZC600KL), I want to know if it exists or if you can use a Custom Rom from another cell phone. If really don't have any way to install Custom Rom on it, then can you please give me tips to improve the trash ZenUi that this phone has?

Hello there
my Samsung A12 is unaffected after flashing it using odin.
I flashed my phone with magisk patch to root it yet the it seems like nothing happened

what I did
1 unlock the bootloader which caused the phone to wipe data
2 with magisk I used boot.img to create magisk patch
3 using odin, I selected magisk patch, bl, cs and csc files to flash my phone
4 odin gave failure so I added Home_csc file for which odin is supposed to successfully flashed my phone

but when I open my phone its state is no different from how it was after I unlocked the bootloader

I tried wiping the cache, factory rest, re-flashing but none seems to work

Probably any here can´t do more than you, by your own, searching for a custom ROM for your device.
You can´t use a custom ROM that was developed for other device.
The most you could do, IMHO, is get rid of some bloatware https://universal-android-debloater-gui.uptodown.com/windows and/or https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...mate-app-manager-debloat-tool-tweaks.4147837/

It seems that thread explains very well the steps you need, I can only add, that you probably have to format data through recovery (again) in order to have it accessible (R/W), and take a backup from the most important, then pull the backup to an external storage, then move on.

    Thanks!
I read in detail the thread you mentioned and followed all the steps.
The problem is that I can't make the phone go into BROM or Preloader mode.
The phone still shows as Unknown Device.
I'm not sure it works on your device, but, you might be able to open the device and use a jumper wire to make contact between two specific points on the motherboard to force the device into BROM.

    Hi everyone!

I am confused about VoLTE entirely working with custom ROMs, especially lineageOS. Can somebody who as knowledge about it help me out?

    Thanks!
It depends on the device, VoLTE works pretty fine with some of them, I mean, there is not a previous reason, why it shouldn`t work.

    okay :
    1. the service provider enable VOLTE or/and VOWIFI on it's LTE/5G network by adding a IMS (multimedia server) ; IMS will manage including SIP (voip) to handle your phone number between it's netwok and your phone ; for this, the service provider parameter it's own volte/vowifi information, depending how is managed the IMS. Then, he enables and allow volte/vowifi for some/all subscribers. Service provider transmits volte/vowifi information to phone/devices manufacturers
    2. the manufacturers are supposed to add those ISP (and others ISP too) volte/vowifi information within a file, called volte/vowifi profile. Technically, how does it works? manufacturer just asks to qualcomm to add those information to volte/vowifi profile by adding them to binary files (called blobs) to android's ESP partition.
    3. the manufacturer sends network update to the devices by simple software updates; And then, when the phone powers on, androi/ios see it can connect to LTE, that the phone line is volte/vowifi allowed, and checks about those volte/vowifi information into the phone, that the manufacturer added into the software. Then they discuss together (the phone by software, with the IMS on provider's network) about connecting phone into a SIP client, whom might be connected to associate your phone number to the phone. Thus it's works!(1)

1: normally, it's works fine with almost all providers/devices, when the volte/vowifi service was enabled BEFORE the device was built/solt.
please notice that almost all phone are 3/4yrs maximum updated, so a 2022 new volte service will not work on a 2018 updated phone, manufacturers prefers you to change your phone ;)
please also notice that ALL free/opensource alternative software (lineageos, sailfish, postmarketos) could handle volte/vowifi ONLY by handling those vowifi/volte profiles from mcfg.bin something file, whom are kind of blobs containing volte/vowifi, stored in..... .the ESP partition/space on the phone : lineageos, and others OS, uses the SAME source of information : if volte/vowifi works well on a device, it doesnt depends on the system files, but on the esp/cellular blobs binary files, and will ever work or never work.
    IMS

IMS features in Android more or less only work for recent Qualcomm devices at the time of writing, due to several changes in implementation per Android version, and lack of a standardized interface between the telephony frameworks and proprietary components. While IMS features themselves are standardized, the software implementations of them unfortunately are not.

that is, my comprehension of how it's working.

I just got a new Poco X5 Pro. I want to install a different rom but I'm stuck trying to unlock the bootloader. My Mi account is fine but I am not receiving the one time passcodes from Xiaomi to check the status unlocking the BL. Has anybody figured out a method to bypass this? Thanks
Since years, Xiaomi doesn`t deliver a code. You have to firstly, sign in your Mi account through the settings, but, also you have to bind that account to that device (rare no?), to do this, enable developer options, and there you´ll find the option to do so, you have to log in, switching off WiFi, and enabling only mobile data, once you get the success message, you can continue with the process through a PC.

Just a few words of advice on keeping this thread clean of unnecessary clutter:

    1. Before posting a question, it is highly recommended to read this thread.

    2. Click the Thanks button on the posts that helped you, instead of posting "Thanks". This helps other members in finding out the best replies that get buried in the thread.

    3. Do not use this thread to increase your post count! The Off-Topic forum is the place for that.

    4. Do a simple search of this thread before asking to see if your question has been asked previously.

    5. If your question has not received an answer after a few hours, please be patient. Someone will answer you shortly. If you do not get an answer in 24 hours, you may BUMP your post. If you still have no answer after a week, do mention me in your post.

    Thank you for your cooperation!
