Hello,

I'm getting my honor 5x in a few days with the intention of putting customs roms on it. I purchased it from amazon uk. (New)
Is there anything I need to do once I get the device to make sure that custom roms will work well on it?

Thanks.

You need those 2 threads to start, here & here. Once you unlock the bootloader & install TWRP you're good to go. And always read the ROM's thread OP before flash anything, because almost ROMs has their limitations. Like LOS 14.1 says on OP, "Stock Firmware B360 and B370 are known to cause bootloops! (Generally: if your stock ROM supports VoLTE it is likely that it is also affected!)". That's it, have fun:)

can i revert back to 5.1.1 model from b360/b370?
ofcourse buddy- here is my thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/how-to/detailed-guide-to-downgrade-marshmallow-t3455535

also, you can try downloading just the B350 version and use dlaod method to be on b350 version and you can flash any custom ROM you want.
may be just flash this, this is B320 version for KIW-L22 model -
http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=83346&version=327474&siteCode=in-h

or any version other than B360/370 from

won't there be the problem of bootloop on rolling back to b350?
and do i have to root to revert?
and can you get me a link of dload method?
here you go for the detailed method-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/how-to/manual-ota-update-guide-update-app-t3445976
Note- It should be the full firmware of 1.XX GB and not the OTa update of few MBs.

If you download the .zip file, extract it and you will get update.app file.

  • once you have the update.app file then create a folder dload in external memory (SD card)
  • Copy tupdate.app to dload folder in SD card root directory.
  • Power off the phone.
  • Press volume up+volume down keys and simultaneously press power button.
  • Your phone will automatically detect the package and will start the update process.
  • Once the update process is successful, you will get a message as update was successful and your phone will restart automatically.
  • During restart, phone will verify the system image.
  • This verification and 1st boot may take up to 2-3 minutes so do not panic.

Hi,since I know the Honor 5x will not get nougat, I think it's time for me to flash nougat custom rom. I have a few question :
Will the internal storage get wipe on unlocking bootloader ?
On every thread, they say B360/370 firmware cause bootloop, how to know we have B360/370 firmware ?
What is the bugs on LineageOS ?
Which nougat custom rom do you suggest me ? I usually play a little on phone, I'm seaching for a great battery life and fingerprint operational ROM.

I hope I'm not disturb you and sorry for my english

Internal storage will get wiped when you unlock. There was a discussion awhile back but you may be able to back up the data using hisuite and restore after unlocking. No guarantees :p

B360/370 is the volte firmware. Under about device is where you can tell, don't remember exactly where since it's been awhile since I've seen stock.

As far as I have experienced, there aren't any big bugs with los/Los based roms. In most cases a proper clean flash should take care of everything. OK Google detection has been reported to cause mic issues so stay aware of that. As far as anything else goes, search is your friend :good:

All the nougat roms have fingerprint working. Generally crdroid is reputed to have good battery life but it's rly a personal choice as to which one you like since they're all great. I've tried half a dozen or so and they all behave similarly, just different features and quirks :good:

I have root menu in dev option but my phone is not rooted !

Hello guys !
I have my honor 5x with the lastest lineage build, everything is fine, except that I can't root it.
I went to dev option, the root menu is there, I activated for apps and ADB, I even installed the su addon with the recovery, but I can't launch ad away, it says my phone is not rooted :(
Have I done something wrong ?

Hello,

I would like to ask to everyone, which twrp recovery version & the link to download that able to mount NTFS sd card & otg?

The latest 3.1 from official twrp site can't mount this formatted (ntfs) drive

If there's none that can mount it, anyone can suggest any solution to make it able mount on twrp & still can have file size bigger then 4gb?

Thanks!

I'm no expert, but from what I'm seeing online NTFS support is added by ntfs-3g which has to be added to a TWRP build with a build flag. Source. So unless you find someone that deals with that for the phone you're using, you may not get that. Unless you figure a way to do it yourself. Sorry about that.

Hi all. Hopefully this has not been asked before or discussed. Kind of doubt it though.

Thing is - I'm torn between OSes. Here's a quick breakdown and then the major issue I have with choosing.

Official OS6
Very good. Most things work. Has app permissions. Things that don't work include some games and TransDroid/TransDrone.

Official OS5
Just doesn't have app permissions. Everything works with no problems - haven't had any games/apps not work that I can recall.

Custom ROMs
Results vary with the fingerprint (FP) reader. Works MUCH FASTER than the stock ROMs. Overall performance is better. SD card handling is different.

And now for the big problem. I've really only used AICP so far since it's the only one that I've gone through the threads and found that the FP reader is working. So far - no problems. BUT. The stock OSes handled the SD card in a way that I loved. EVERY SINGLE APP that I downloaded would go to the SD card. The resource/space hog WhatsApp was located on the SD card out of the box with the stock OS. All I had to do was set the default location to the SD card and all files are there.

The difference between this on both the stock OSes and the base ones used for (most) custom ROMs is the way Android OS 6+ uses/handles SD cards. You either have to marry it to the file system forever, or treat it like an ugly relative that you keep at arms length. I love being able to just take out my SD card and copy to/from. Especially in cases where the card may be going bad. If it's stuck married to the OS then I have to wipe it each time. I do own Apps2SD and it does work, but I think maybe I got too accustomed to the stock OS just doing it all for me.

So - the question - do you guys know of any custom ROM that will handle the SD card like this? If not I dunno what I'm going to do. Probably stay with AICP and manually move the media to the SD card when I can, or maybe use the debloat script for one of the stock ROMs and just settle for either no app permissions, or not being able to play some games/run some apps.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. As long as there's some solution or direction. If not - I guess we'll just wait and see? And hope that Honor comes out with an official Nougat that handles the RAM better....

*EDIT*
Oh yeah. The dialer on the stock ROM is better IMO - I personally rather those that have the two SIM dial buttons there. And I rather the OS5 dialer that integrated with the contacts and SMS versus the one in OS6 that has the SMS separate. Anyways.

Sometimes I wish I knew more about this stuff. Would customize the ROM the way I want. Use the AICP as a base and remove the components I don't like then put in the ones I do like from the stock OS. Anyways. Hoping to get a reply.

Thanks in advance.

*EDIT*
Somewhat solved the dialer issue with True Phone. It's more like a front-end for the phone dialer. Not bad still - dual SIM support and some decent features. And unlike others, it actually uses the SIM you select without prompting. Also gives you the two buttons for SIM1/SIM2 to call from. Paid for it. Good stuff.
