2nd sim slot gr5(same as honor 5x)disabled by canadian provider?

Hi
I recd a gr5 which( I am told is the same as the honor 5x) from my rogers provider in canada.
The 2nd sim slot is disabled.
I am wondering if the 2nd sim slot could be enabled by installing a different rom.
I guess a phone unlock from rogers would be the first step then the guides.
I would appreciate a little push in the right direction, and some feedback
THE MODEL # K11-L05
I would like to stick in a stock rom if possible enabling the2nd sim if possible
Thank you to anyone who can help

The thread linked to above is the only one I found doing a search for the K11-L05.

What I'd do before anything else is this:
  • Backup your files and everything important on the device.
  • Get the phone bootloader unlocked.
  • Get the phone rooted.
  • Do a TWRP backup of the device.

After ensuring that you have a backup of the device, try one of the other ROMs available for the similar phone. If it works, then you should be perfectly fine. You could then upload a clean TWRP backup of your device so others can also go back to the original stock factory image if they run into similar issues. If you want to be nice to the community that is.

The Honor 5X community seems to be large and files were already available for my device, so even when I messed up I could still find things available online. That's all the details I can give because I'm no expert. But let us know how it works out please.

-------------------------

Back to my original stuff on the previous page.

Hi all. Hopefully this has not been asked before or discussed. Kind of doubt it though.

Thing is - I'm torn between OSes. Here's a quick breakdown and then the major issue I have with choosing.

Official OS6
Very good. Most things work. Has app permissions. Things that don't work include some games and TransDroid/TransDrone.

Official OS5
Just doesn't have app permissions. Everything works with no problems - haven't had any games/apps not work that I can recall.

Custom ROMs
Results vary with the fingerprint (FP) reader. Works MUCH FASTER than the stock ROMs. Overall performance is better. SD card handling is different.

And now for the big problem. I've really only used AICP so far since it's the only one that I've gone through the threads and found that the FP reader is working. So far - no problems. BUT. The stock OSes handled the SD card in a way that I loved. EVERY SINGLE APP that I downloaded would go to the SD card. The resource/space hog WhatsApp was located on the SD card out of the box with the stock OS. All I had to do was set the default location to the SD card and all files are there.

The difference between this on both the stock OSes and the base ones used for (most) custom ROMs is the way Android OS 6+ uses/handles SD cards. You either have to marry it to the file system forever, or treat it like an ugly relative that you keep at arms length. I love being able to just take out my SD card and copy to/from. Especially in cases where the card may be going bad. If it's stuck married to the OS then I have to wipe it each time. I do own Apps2SD and it does work, but I think maybe I got too accustomed to the stock OS just doing it all for me.

So - the question - do you guys know of any custom ROM that will handle the SD card like this? If not I dunno what I'm going to do. Probably stay with AICP and manually move the media to the SD card when I can, or maybe use the debloat script for one of the stock ROMs and just settle for either no app permissions, or not being able to play some games/run some apps.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. As long as there's some solution or direction. If not - I guess we'll just wait and see? And hope that Honor comes out with an official Nougat that handles the RAM better....

*EDIT*
Oh yeah. The dialer on the stock ROM is better IMO - I personally rather those that have the two SIM dial buttons there. And I rather the OS5 dialer that integrated with the contacts and SMS versus the one in OS6 that has the SMS separate. Anyways.

Sometimes I wish I knew more about this stuff. Would customize the ROM the way I want. Use the AICP as a base and remove the components I don't like then put in the ones I do like from the stock OS. Anyways. Hoping to get a reply.

Thanks in advance.

*EDIT*
Somewhat solved the dialer issue with True Phone. It's more like a front-end for the phone dialer. Not bad still - dual SIM support and some decent features. And unlike others, it actually uses the SIM you select without prompting. Also gives you the two buttons for SIM1/SIM2 to call from. Paid for it. Good stuff.
Also like to add that I'm going back to stock B151. Going to de-bloat and then install this root application permission manager that I found (and paid for.........).

Hello.
I have a question regarding reverting back to stock rom. I have tried many methods, but i haven't succeeded in downgrading.
Right now i'm on Resurrection remix rom, with stock recovery installed. Tried the ''dload'' method, but stock recovery didn't give me an option to install the ''.APP'' file.
I'm not necessary a noob, but i have no expierence with Huawei devices, and i'm curious how to go back to stock rom.
Waiting for answers! :)

@The_Rencis - First thing you need to do is get a lower class SD card. This was found out by another member and posted previously (can't recall the thread). But it's tested and working. Most likely you have a high speed card in the phone. Use a Class 4 to be safe, but you could try with a Class 8 or Class 6. Once you have the file in the DLOAD folder it will work with the lower speed card.

I have class 6 sd card. I will try to format it, and then make a "dload" folder.
UPDATE: stock recovery still gives only three options - reboot, factory reset, wipe cache partition.

Good stuff. Please update when done. I'm actually doing the same thing with mine. May go purchase another card though as I'm having some issues with the one I'm using. Goes to 47% and then gives an error. Could just be the card giving problems.

Currently copying with TeraCopy to ensure file integrity when done. I will also update my status at some point when done - takes like an hour or more to copy the file due to the write speed of the Class 4 card. If you have success with the Class 6 then I'll probably go get one or try with the Class 8, but I'm sure it doesn't work with the Class 10. Still - could also be a brand thing. Maybe the more expensive brand high speed cards would work. Maybe.

Huawei Kll-L05 (model not accepted by online unlock at huawei)

Ok
I am registered with huawei
This is for my gr5 unlocking online.
I am just sputtering here I have written the model number in the appropriate spot word for word with capitalization as required.
I have subsituted zeros for ooos and vice versa but it does not take the model number from my gr5.
This seems to be the only hangup as i have input everything else it just does not take the model number, and that is the only error message.
Read something about 14 day rule maybe they are enforcing it only had it a week will try again in another week unless some one has an idea.
Thank you

Best regards

Status update. Tried 7 different sd cards. Class 4;6;8;10. None of them work.
I think it's not the sd card's fault. We are aiming in the wrong direction. My bet is that the recovery can't find .APP file since the rom on my phone is not from Huawei.

Ordered and received the Honor 5x from Amazon(actual link to product if you need to see it) and waiting for my new straighttalk sim to get here for it. In the meantime I figured I'd get it rooted and rom'd. Came here first obviously, but I'm seeing all sorts of conflicting and confusing info about bootloader unlocking, being on the right or wrong firmware versions, etc. I bought this phone for a various list of features, and above all the ability to root and rom it as easily as I once could back in the day on my old S1 variants without the headache of waiting for bootloader unlocks.

I can't seem to find a good, current, "here's how to go from out of the box to running something like LineageOS 14.1" guide, for example. I don't want to touch anything and risk getting myself put in a position where I've killed off my ability to update or root(I'm scarred by my previous carrier branded devices, this is my first non-carrier branded device) because I stupidly performed some sort of update or etc. It has not been on the network or my wifi since I pulled it out of the box last night.

There is a thread on unlocking your bootloader, I'd look at that thread.

Basically you want to update to marshmallow firmware (not including volte firmware), unlock bootloader, flash twrp, flash rom, flash root if not included.

I ota updated to b331, followed the guide to unlock bootloader and install twrp, then flashed LineageOS14.1, latest arm64 7.1 gapps micro, but didn't have root. Flashed Supersu that unlock thread told me to get, now boots to lineageos animated logo and just sits there even after I reboot.

SuperSU doesn't work, it will give you a bootloop. You need to flash the addonsu from here.

can anyone suggest a "wife-friendly" (daily driver, stable) ROM for a honor 5X on US T-mobile? I haven't flashed a phone in a while, but I have done a handful in the past. Main thing I'm trying to achieve is a smoother, less laggy experience as well as increased cell reception for calls and texts. I remember back in the HTC sensation days, you could flash a different radio to possibly get better coverage. Is that still a thing? i have extremely better coverage in the same home with my stock ROM galaxy S6. I assume T-mobile wifi calling is still not able to be added to a honor 5X? i'll have to double check the model number, but i believe it's the KIW-L24. she doesn't use the fingerprint sensor and i don't think that US T-mobile utilizes VoLTE (someone correct me if i'm wrong). thanks

If you're trying different cards and not getting through, chances are the file has an issue. Post the link to the file you're using and I'll download and check the hashes (CRC/MD5). Once this is done we can verify if the file you got is corrupted. And the UPDATE.APP should have been official.

I'd probably suggest B151 with debloat. If all she does is make calls/WhatsApp then it should do. If she installs a lot of stuff, then I'd recommend AICP with custom GAPPS based on what she uses.

evening i need some help. i have this device 2nd time round as my TRAP phone. it prompted me that MM update was available but when i tried it said system had been modified. i tried it anyway and it failed. i assume it was bootloader unlock but many here say that doesn't affect OTA. i then read and looked for other options as stuck on 5.1.1. i tried the fastboot method flashing boot and system images from the update files but nothing just boot loop. only TWRP back up got my phone running again. now it shows no update available. i tried numerous files and all bootloop. only fastboot flashing works but always bootloop. manual via sdcard fails, auto also failed so i am stuck. i can't see any TWRP flashable updates on here so i am asking for help to ugrade from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1 and EMUI 4.0. it at one point said download full package but that failed too. maybe i am using wrong files or something as it fastboot flashes fine but bootloops when tried to boot into home page......................

Update only if you're sure all your apps and such work. I purposely stay on 5.1.1 because all of my apps work on that - when I upgrade I lose functionality in some apps.

If you want to get your phone back to factory - first thing to do is get the UPDATE.APP for the version you had on it before. Preferably. Then FASTBOOT and restore the original recovery. Then ensure you place the UPDATE.APP on the SD card in the root, in the "dload" folder. Power off the phone. Ensure the phone is UNPLUGGED - even if the battery is/was low. Boot it up by holding the vol+/- and power. Once it turns on release the power and continue holding the vol+/-. It should start the update process from the UPDATE.APP file on the SD card.

Word of advice - ensure the MD5 for the file on the SD card matches the one on your PC. That way you won't get any issues during the process. If you have problems then use a lower speed/class SD card. I've had success using class 10 cards, but only after verifying the file copy was good. You can also try using TeraCopy to do a CRC (or MD5 check based on the version) on the file after copy automatically. Post back your results please.
