HTC Backup Storage Account Gaff

Hey Guys,

Been a bit of an idiot... I created a gmail account purely for my HTC Backup and didn't set up an account recovery password... I tried to restore and realised that I had forgotten the email address that I used.

What I am asking is whether any bright spark knows how/where the HTC backup storage account information is stored and whether I can get the email address out of it?

I use a variation of 4 passwords for various things, as such that isn't going to be an issue, but if I don't know the email I can't recover!

HTC Backup by default lists your storage account email as the first character and last character, the rest is asterisks... Mine is listed as D*****[email protected] and I can't figure it out... Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...

Please, no flaming, I know it was a daft thing to do and lesson learnt etc., just want to know if there is anyway for me to get at that backup.

Thanks,
Dan

If you can reboot into recovery then you should be able to sideload a rom zip using adb :) This will then install the same as a normal ROM and you should be good to go!

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried that multiple times, but each time
I click on the sideload command, my computer freezes.
Get your hands on another device with micro SD, download a rom with it onto the card . Then pop the card in your M8...install.

I would suggest adb push, as sideload tends to be more problematic in my experience. adb push and sideload aren't the same thing, FYI. Sideload pushes the ROM and flashes it with a single command. Where adb push just copies the file to the phone's internal storage. You then need to boot recovery and flash as you normally would flash a ROM.

OK, then I'm a bigger idiot than I thought, where is it?
Just above the volume rocker.

I can't dismantle my otterbox atm.... But it's the little door with a pin hole, opposite side of Sim.
I couldn't remember wither, and I had to check HTC's website. NanoSIM slot is on the left, MicroSD slot is on the right. I would have guessed the opposite (that the smaller slot is the NanoSIM).

Yup... Bigger one is the Sim. Forgot that. But still can't see them in my Defender case. Lol

So I have a T-Mobile HTC One M8. I still have S-ON and installed ARHD 11.1

I would like to install 20.3 but I don't really want to S-OFF.
Could I flash back a TWRP Recovery of my original ROM and get an OTA Update from T-Mobile when the push 4.4 to come out or would they not allow that since I have flashed a new ROM?

Thanks!

OTA will install as long as you return to stock ROM, and no files were altered by root, but you will also need to return to stock recovery.

If T-Mobile US, you can relock the bootloader and RUU to return easily to stock ROM and recovery. Otherwise, do it manually.

Thank you so much! I suppose I'll just wait till T-Mo hopefully pushes an Android L update and then flash the newest ARHD that compliments it. If it were to take too long, guess I'm going to have to Sunshine it and do it all myself :(

You'll love being S-Off! Do it. You'll always have the newest version firmware and adsp.
