Welcome to this help thread for HTC U12 Life
When you have no place to go you will surely find help here!

Hello! new users and welcome to XDA - Developers. We are a developer's forum, with the purpose of development. Out work can be used in several ways, and, we know that sometimes it could help you. So, in order to maintain our forums clean and properly organised, maintaining a proper development environment while at the same time to give you a chance to join our forums, we created this thread.

This thread is for sensible questions from new or inexpert users. If you think your question may be little basic for the wild Q&A forum then this is the place to ask it.

Here you shall find an atmosphere free of prejudice, where we will try to help you in your problem, answer your most basic questions and aid you on troubleshooting your device. We know that learning all the technicalities takes time, however they are necessary in order to interact with us.

Keep in mind that we are not technical support, we do not work for any company or get paid to help, we are just independent developers gathered in a community called XDA-DEVELOPERS. Therefore all we will do is guide you into troubleshooting your device yourself, but under no circumstances we are abided to do so.

Few things to remember before asking question.
1) Make a quick google search about your problem, may be you might find solution to it, if not at least you will find some new information.
also search for Q&A threads and if there is a frequently asked question thread, read it, might be some and already answered your question.

2) Be patient after asking question, Users might be online, offline, we don't know about the situation so give them bit of a time.

3) Describe in detail about
- Your Problem.
- What caused the problem.
- What all have you tried.
- Which all forums have you checked.
- And also information of the phone.
the more information we have , the more easy it will be for users to help you.
Don't just say "Please help, I F**** my phone " or. "My phone has gone nuts help me."
you want proper help from us, we need proper information for you .

We want you to become the kind of user we see as productive to a developer's community, and why not?, to be a developer yourself!. Do not think about how can I ask this silly question. remember every master was a noob once. Whats important is that you are willing to learn and improve.

Note to General Users:
This is a chance for more advanced users to "Give Back" (Like Iam doing now for the community) to XDA-Developers the knowledge we gathered together this time we have been here. This is a thread to behave in a tolerant way, taking into consideration that the users posting queries might have never even heard words like "Bootloaders, ROM", so, if you are not willing to be helpful, I kindly invite you to browse into another thread.

Moderators will not tolerate "flaming" or "trolling" in this thread as it is specifically provided for those who are still learning the basics.. We will delete and sanction without warning any post that show intention other than to help the new user.

As you may notice, I Copied this thread layout from @D.O.C M7 thread. Thanks in advanced.

The link is for U12+
U12 Life doesn't have "Personalize" option in the settings. It isn't possible to change navigation bar at all.

What's going on with this phone? There are *zero* posts about it anywhere outside this thread -- the "real life review" forum is completely empty. The retailers near me have cut the prices like the phone gives you the plague or something, currently 200 EUR for a phone that launched at 350. I'd think about buying one, since SD 636, 4/64GB, 1080p for 200 EUR is a steal, but I can't even find any accessories online. Is HTC in such a bad place that the phone died at launch?

I bought one online and I love it. 6" display, is fast, Bluetooth works well, The battery lasts forever. 1 day of heavy use and it only goes down to 65%. Great price on it..... only downside is I can't find any development on it but it has had 2 updates. running Oreo 8.1 and sense 10. I wouldn't be scared of it. What kind of accessories are you looking for? I have 2 cases for it I found on e-bay. Comes with a set of headphones.

Did you unlock bootloader in your u12 life?

I bought u12 life European unlocked version a couple days ago and I can`t get token required to generate unlock.bin file.
Try a couple time, Win 10 and Linux, always get this response :
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Sync Manager\HTC Sync>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
FAILED (remote: unknown command)
finished. total time: -0.000s
htc_fastboot finished. total time: 0.267s
Does anyone successfully unlock bootloader on this device?

Nope, I tried at HTCDev but failed. Same code...Will only take a few fastboot commands in Bootloader. I posted here a while ago about getting root and nobody seems to be developing anything for this phone. I am just waiting but am fine with it not being rooted or unlocked. Microsoft launcher gives it a fresh look but I seem to go back to sense 10 after a short period of time.

I go here https://community.htc.com/tw/chat.php?fid=44&filter=tag&devIds=151
for most of my U12 Life info. :good:

Me too.

It seems that bootloader is unlockable for now ::( . I bought this phone because this is the cheapest device which supports 3CA and probably QAM256 ($210 in Poland). OOTB supports VoWIFI on my operator Play Poland. To activate VoLTE and lock LTE Bands root/magisk are needed and so unlock bootloader.

What build number and Android security patch date do you have in your U12 life? My build number is 1.53.401.1 and 1 November 2018 android patch date.

I was hoping someone from here would crack it but nobody seems to be interested.
I bought mine from Taiwan, a HTC store for $245 in December. took 1 week to get it which I thought was fast. Some waited months to get the HTC U 12plus. Attached some screenshots. w/build number and Radio info.

Hi at all,
i don't have this device but i'm interested on it, considering the actual price around 230/240 euro. I want to know if there are any chances that htc will release android Pie. According to all the news that i read, HTC will not provide Android 9 to this device, and this is really a shame. Does anyone have any news?

I am not sure if they are going to release Android Pie or not for the HTC Life, a few months back they released a update for bugs, but is running Oreo 8.1.
I did hear in the Taiwanese HTC forum that it would receive the Pie update in the 3rd Qrt but will wait and see. Nobody has confirmed or denied it yet. NBD for me as I run Pie on my M8 and M9 but but my HTC U12 Life battery's life is outstanding. Heavy use daily brings my battery down too maybe 65%.
