I have a new Verizon Moto E4 but my earpiece (call speaker) Doesn't work. Which is weird because it appears to use the same speaker as the loudspeaker/speakerphone, which works.

Confirmed in engineering test mode, the loudspeaker works but the earpiece is VERY VERY VERY faint (mostly inaudible unless shouting @ the other end, and pressing ear against earpiece, you can faintly make out a noise)

I would say try a factory reset, and if it doesn't work right after that your speaker is probably defective.

Is there a simple way to root this phone? Without deencrypting, and flashing SuperSU, yada yada yada... I just need basic root, for now...
(Are all phones to be rooted this way now, except for the Samsung ones?)
Also, I can't get Vlc video player working- the installer states that it's incompatible. Awful.
Thank you.
I have the MetroPCS version...

Hello all,

I recently purchased a Verizon prepaid E4 variant (XT1767PP) and purchased an unlock code for it. Unlock code worked and it works fine on AT&T now, but I'm wondering would it be possible to flash the firmware from the standard carrier-free E4 onto this phone? I'm used to Samsung phones where you can flash whatever carrier variant you want onto your phone, not sure if the same thing applies to this one. The Verizon firmware isn't bad and the minimal bloat can be disabled but sometimes it does complain about a non-verizon SIM.

Nope, you can't flash a different carriers firmware.

@Sean89us You can uninstall Verizon bloat and the Verizon sim nag. Check here and here, or here. It's a semi-permanent uninstall, meaning it will "stick" during all reboots, however, factory resetting the phone will re-enable/install everything you removed.
I have the Verizon variant and don't get the sim nag. I also uninstalled the Verizon bloat, as well as Youtube, Photos, and Gmail.
I recently got a really good deal on a US Cellular Moto E4 that is basically the same as the retail unlocked version for $130. I use that instead of the Verizon phone now. More about the USC variant here.

@mn1968 Just curious, why change from one E4 to another? Just for the root capability? The Verizon branding on this phone really isn't bad at all.

Root! I thought it wouldn't bother me with the Verizon variant but it did. Couldn't stand the increasing ringtone, and a few other things. I also love all the customization root provides. Now that ROMs are being released, it's the perfect storm. All said and done, I got 2 E4's for about $99. The USC will be for daily use, and the Verizon a backup in case I screw up the USC somehow.

I found out something interesting about my broken earpiece. It worked briefly yesterday, until I tried the vibration test in engineering mode. Then it stopped working again. With a reboot, _sometimes_ I can get the earpiece of to work. So clearly, the phone needs to be returned.

It would appear to me like the earpiece and speaker are the same internal component, I wonder what the vibration motor has to do with this, maybe they are all tightly connected.

Is there anyway to put the battery percentage at the top? I can't figure that out and it's driving me nuts.

I also heard there is a night mode display
easter-egg menu in settings in 7+ to enable night mode. I can't get that working either.
Rudimentary questions...

Swipe down from the top of the screen and hold the settings icon.

It's really not hard to find. Go to settings and scroll almost all the way down and you'll see system ui tuner. It's in there. The night mode settings are in the moto display app in your app drawer. Also really not hard to find.

Qualcomm Moto e4 Perry

[/URL]What's up XDA! I need assistance with my Moto e4 and the majority of you guys are more than capable. Ok I have a QC Moto E4 rooted with Magisk 14.3 running N7.1.2. Resurrection Remix OS... Everything works perfectly except for 2 things..The new dialer and camera that comes when you flash GApps. I have found the stock camera and flashed it (green emerald Moto camera) and it works perfectly like stock rom but now I need the stock dialer. (Green emerald Moto/pixel dialer) it is made for metropcs and has the ViLTE/VoLTE/VoWifi feature built in for that carrier. No other dialer let's me perform out-the-box video calls with other Android users (Metro, T-Mobile, Verizon, ATT, ect) is there a way I can post that stock 7.1.1 dialer to my custom 7.1.2 rom? Or is there anywhere that offers the Metro-Moto-Pixel dialer? (Green app/apk not blue?)

Moto E4 No service, Mobile Network Not Available

Hello I have a question. My Moto E4 qualcomm was working and suddenly it stopped working on stock rom. No service message and when I try to make a call there is a mobile network not available. I have unlocked the bootloader and flash LineageOS but I still have the same problem. On the dialer I type *#06# and the imei comes up. On the sim status settings the network is unknown and the service state keeps changing from out of service to radio off. My sim works on my other phone and I have tried other sims in the moto, same problem. I have sent the phone for replacement two times and that is why i decided to unlock it and flash LineageOS thinking that it might fix the problem, no luck. I tried the usual stuff, factory resetting, clearing the cache and network setting reset but nothing works. I can access the network settings only after I turn on airplane mode and then turn it off. Then I try to search for network but there is an error. When i try to put a new apn I cannot save it. Any advice is welcome, thanks.
