5.1 cell standby & factory resetting

I have a 2013 Moto x that once upgraded to 5.1 had a very significant increase in battery drain due to cell standby. Turning cell data off when connected to wifi helps a little, but it's still 30-60% worse than on 4.4.4 (showing up to 80% of the battery use). I know from searching it's a known issue, some people have mentioned factory resetting - did that really help anyone here / is there any fixes that I haven't seen to this?

Also, very noob-ish question- if I do a factory reset for something like this, will a TWRP restore after negate the entire point (because it's an image, so the problem would be restored)?

Thanks a lot!

Guys I have some doubts regarding the Moto X, holping you could help me:
*First I need to know if Motorola put the Camera API2 on the 5.1 update?
*In any update the device received support for 60fps recording and ISO below 160?

I don't have the update yet, so I can't advise you on any fixes... but I will tell you this... IF you do a TWRP backup, do a factory reset, then restore your TWRP backup... you're likely going to end up with the same problems/issues.

If you have an issue, its always better to factory reset and then manually install and setup your apps from scratch. Otherwise you risk just restoring the issue/problem.

Hello again,

I updated to 5.1 using this thread to avoid updating my bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/how-to-install-5-1-lollipop-moto-x-t3089594
but I see it's the first 5.1 brazilian soak test.
I'd like to be on the newest version without updating my bootloader (in case I want to safely go back to 4.4.4).
Would it be safe to use the xt1058 file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/official-collection-firmwares-fxz-sbf-t3146628
And use the commands from the xml file to flash via fastboot, but to ommit flashing gpt.bin and motoboot.img?
I was reading this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/info-warning-risks-downgrading-impacts-t3058202
but it talks mostly of downgrading and I wasn't able to find information on upgrading without updating the bootloader

Thanks again for your help!

I haven't been on here in over 1.5 years. Last I remember we were unable to flash roms at all if you did not have the developer version. We could only root. However, I vageuly recall some guy selling codes or something that most people said were sketchy and not to use him. And doing this allowed it to function as a dev version? Not really sure... Can anyone give me a quick update on the last 1.5 years? Are we able to flash roms now? Are we able to update the android version? I heard L was coming out for the moto x soon so I'm wondering whats happening. All info for verizon non dev version please :)

You need an unlocked bootloader, then flashing roms is no problem. And it's never been only Dev Edition that could do this. Many moto X's can have the bootloader unlocked.... Except at&t, Verizon and Republic wireless.

Basically nothing has changed since day one.

But yes, many got unlock codes from a fellow in China. But that's been dead awhile now.

Now there is Sunshine to unlock. It costs 25 dollars and only works on some devices. I think it hasn't worked on Android 4.4.4 and later.

Gotcha. So I'm in the same position I've always been lol. Ah well. Whats the news on L though once it releases publically. Do we know if we will be able to update the Vzw version officially and then root it after?

I'm not current on all things X... But if your device is not altered (rooted or unlocked and whatnot) you should get an ota update notice when they push it to you.

As far as rooting after, again... Only if your bootloader is unlocked. Which still won't happen unless Sunshine eventually works.

The issue is that Sunshine needs to temporarily root to function. And there is no current way to temporarily root a Moto X on 4.4.4 or higher. That I know of. Unless that's changed recently.

Edit: again, this goes for at&t, Verizon and Republic wireless devices... Just about all other moto X 's can have the bootloader unlocked on the Moto site.

I am rooted though! So sunshine should work for me I suppose even though I'm on 4.4.4? Hmmm

Maybe you can explain further? Your bootloader is unlocked? If not, how are you rooted? Are you talking about pie root or something?

Regardless... Downloading Sunshine is free. It will tell you if it will work before you need to enter payment details.

If you have temp root but a locked bootloader... I'm pretty certain you will lose it on Lollipop. Also, if you've altered any system files... The Ota won't flash. So you'd need to address that, or flash the SBF file for 4.4.4... Which will wipe root away too.

Permanent non temporary root, locked bootloader and android version 4.4 (sorry made a mistake when I added that final .4. I'm running 4.4 not 4.4.4. If you did not have 4.4 a few years ago you could use a program called pwnmymoto which would root you. You were stuck on an older android version though, you couldn't upgrade to the latest. So I've just been chilling enjoying my old rooted android version for a year now haha. I just downloaded sunshine and it says my device passed and is compatible :D:D:D:D:D

What are my next steps then. Run sunshine and get an unlocked bootloader, easy enough. At that point I can just go ahead and flash roms?

Does anybody know if there are any lollipop based roms with active display functioning?

Sent from my Moto X using Tapatalk
Only stock ROM have that functionality AFAIK, but all custom roms have Ambient display that should work nice, at least for me.

You just need the System.img and boot.img to get a working rom on your phone, just flash those 2 files and make a factory reset and you are good to go.

Unknown call log

Dear all,
I have got XT1058 AT&T 5.1 stock version
After upgrading to 5.1 I faced a problem with call log (outcoming calls). If call is successful, contact appears as Unknown in the call log.
I live in Russia (Saint-Petersburg), operator - Beeline.
Do you know something regarding this issue? Motorola doesn't have official representative in Russia, so they are not able to support :(
Thanks in advance!

Sunshine will work on 4.4.2 and lower... I do not know if you first need to undo PwnMyMoto/SlapMyMoto/RockMyMoto or the like.. Or if you can just us it in that state.

I suggest you pop over to -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487 and ask.. Jcase was responsible for PwnMyMoto, and is also involved in Sunshine, so he should answer...

Once you use Sunshine, you have an unlocked bootloader, just as if you got the code from the China Seller, or Moto.... You'll be able to root and flash roms, just like someone with a Dev Edtion, or other addition which moto did unlock.

Hey guys,

I recently returned my Moto X XT1053 to stock lollipop 5.1. My WiFi and Bluetooth would not switch on on my previous stock, rooted 4.4.4 ROM. So I decided to install a fresh ROM including recovery. Unfortunately the WiFi and Bluetooth issue persists.

I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/moto-x-xt1060-issues-wifi-bluetooth-t2813308

But it requires that I be rooted. Problem is I can't seem to root my phone. I installed the latest TWRP using fastboot, and then flashed the latest SuperSU 1.94 zip. When I load the SuperSU app, I get a message saying "There is no SU binary installed". For some reason I can't root my device.
