my moto x running on original rom and just rooted no tweaks with kernels are done. According to post 52 still do i need original rom for ota.??Already answered... See Post#52 of this thread.
The biggest mistake people make is equating one phone to another. There are many who came from HTC devices where they could get S-OFF & Unlock the bootloader, to the X where they could just unlock the bootloader. They couldn't understand why they couldn't just upgrade/downgrade all components at will like they could on past phones.its just bizarre to me that the difference between 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 is major (Security bugs?) Because for instance with my galaxy s2 (T-mobile variant) say you were on ICS While the Jelly bean update was out, you were only able to flash ICS and below untill you installed the Jelly bean update (Updates the bootloader i assume) ill start to look over the stuff you have told me, im not the brightest fellow.
Um, In the last part of POST #57 I pointed you to a thread which has links to sites hosting the SBF files. There is also a link in my signature.also i have seen that thread you sent me before [GUIDE][VIDEO] Moto X - Return to 100% stock (using RSD Lite OR manual flash) and i looked at the stock rom link and its broken :v
Again, This is covered in the thread I linked earlier with the hosts of SBF files (or the link in my signature).also, im checking out this thread http://www.reddit.com/r/MotoX/comments/2c8vb5/guide_updating_your_bootloaderunlocked_moto_x_to/ which leads me to a working link of recoverys, but it looks like they are Dev edition recoverys Here: ttps://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images would these work on mine?
You are running an original or Official Stock Moto ROM already?my moto x running on original rom and just rooted no tweaks with kernels are done. According to post 52 still do i need original rom for ota.??
thanks in advance
From Post #57 of this thread...Could you please point me in the right direction, for example what firmware I can install safely without unlocking the bootloader? Firmware-team's web portal seems down and their FileFactory folder is extremely confusing to navigate. TBH, the reason why I didn't opt for Sunshine to unlock is because I got this phone used so cheap and spending 25 bucks more just for unlocking would further put this device in the same category as the Moto X pure. :good:
While that section of the reply starts out mentioning 4.4.4, it still applies not matter what stock rom you're looking to find. It happens the person I was replying to there was interested in going to 4.4.4.....
As for getting to 4.4.4.. At this point, I would suggest you take a look on you phone, under App Drawer -> Settings... Make note of what is listed under System Version, Android Version, and build number.
Then visit -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/info-tip-web-sites-official-leaked-roms-t2923347 it contains a link to sites that host SBF files. Use one (or all) of the links until you find the SBF that matches. The file name will usually contain parts or all of that info listed under settings, and possibly the carrier name, or acronym for the carrier name (Verizon might be VZW, Rogers Canada might be RCI, etc). ....
Can you make a screen shot of that?I got my new Moto X AT&T XT 1058 today which is unlocked. So when i was browsing the net using Chrome i found something rare on the screen. In the bottom right side corner it says something like this "tell me more" inside a small circle which can be seen if you focus on it and also somethings on the top which says "talk more, touch less". Can be seen more clearly on boot screen . So can anyone help me with this? Like is it a display issue or nothing to be worried about it?
I even tried screen shot but its if no use as I checked it on my laptop and I couldn't fund anything. Only on the devic e this could be seen. Can be seen in all the apps and even in camera app if you focus very well. But can be clearly seen on the boot screen. Can you make a screen shot of that?

Thanks a lot. Also, my phone is carrier unlocked if I flash the stock firmware, do I have to unlock the phone as well? The biggest mistake people make is equating one phone to another. There are many who came from HTC devices where they could get S-OFF & Unlock the bootloader, to the X where they could just unlock the bootloader. They couldn't understand why they couldn't just upgrade/downgrade all components at will like they could on past phones.
I get it, I had the HTC Incredible and HTC Thunderbolts as my main phones for a long while. I had them S-off, I could completely downgrade, with no ill effects, if I didn't like the latest updates. Moto is definitely different.
Short answer, unlocking the bootloader on the X does not grant S-OFF, so many of the phone's security checks are in place. (for more see the 2nd FAQ at -> http://theroot.ninja/faq.html ). In the case of GPT.BIN/Motoboot.img, its not a security bug. Its a security feature to prevent them being downgraded. If you search on GPT.Bin you will see its basically the partition table for the phone. Motoboot.img includes the bootloader, trusted zone, and a few other things. So GPT.BIN and MOTOBOOT.IMG respect security on the phone.
Not to beat a dead horse but, unlocking the X bootloader doesn't get you S-OFF (like it can on HTC and other devices), so if you try to downgrade parts protected by the phone's security measures, they will fail, and in some cases brick the phone in doing so (it was a 100% certainty of getting a brick when downgrading from the first 4.2.2 OTA to the original shipping 4.2.2, now with 4.4.4 to 4.4.2 its a little less than 100% but still high enough chance to give warnings!! and in some cases the brick happens AFTER downgrading.)
For more on downgrading the X see -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/MotoX-Downgrade.htm

It just takes time for you to read everything thoroughly.
Again, This is covered in the thread I linked earlier with the hosts of SBF files (or the link in my signature).
The information is there, if you just take the time to read it, use the links and read the info in those links.

You are running an original or Official Stock Moto ROM already?
As explained in that post, you need to have stock Moto recovery, and be as close to stock as possible so the OTA's preflash validation checks pass. You also need to be on the ROM version the OTA is meant to upgrade. Example, You wont be able to take a Lollipop OTA if your phone is still on a Stock Moto 4.4.2 rom. or an OTA will fail if you have installed Xposed, deleted or remove APKs of "bloatware" from your phone, etc.
Not said in that thread is.. If you are like me, have rooted, run Greenify, Root Explorer, QuickBoot (reboot), and Wifi Tether for Root, with no mods, no Xposed, etc. Then as long as you have stock recovery back on the phone you can take the OTA.
If you have Xposed, done one of the tethering hacks (that involves renaming the entitlement apk), messed with Build.prop, etc. then the OTA will fail to install. If you have a 3rd party recovery (TWRP, CWM, Philz, etc) the OTA will fail to install but get you stuck in a bootloop.
This is pretty much covered in the link I included in Post #52.

Being locked or unlocked does not matter when flashing a phone with STOCK Moto SBF files, or Stock Moto OTA updates. Thanks a lot. Also, my phone is carrier unlocked if I flash the stock firmware, do I have to unlock the phone as well?
First.. to flash any rom which is not a Stock ROM digitially signed by moto, you need to be bootloader unlocked.I'm getting a Moto X in a few days and was just wondering if I flash a custom rom, do I lose the stock features such as always listening and ambient display? I'm getting the X because I like those features and wouldn't want to lose any of the stock goodness.
You could flash a stock based romI'm getting a Moto X in a few days and was just wondering if I flash a custom rom, do I lose the stock features such as always listening and ambient display? I'm getting the X because I like those features and wouldn't want to lose any of the stock goodness.
I had terrible experience with XT912, which was a carrier branded phone unlocked to work with other GSM networks, but when I tried to flash the stock ROM I lost network coverage.Being locked or unlocked does not matter when flashing a phone with STOCK Moto SBF files, or Stock Moto OTA updates.
Bump. Does anyone know whether or not this is even a real problem or if I'm concerned about nothing?I have an XT1053 with an unlocked bootloader, TWRP recovery and Xposed framework installed. I'm trying to unwind enough of what I did so that I will be able to install the OTA when it arrives. I've already removed each Xposed module 1 by 1. I also opened recovery and flashed the disable.zip that is mentioned in an earlier part of this thread. However, I still see Xposed in my app drawer and I got a message toward the end of of the installation dialog in recovery, it said, "!!! No backup found for app_process, nothing to be performed !!! Done Updating partition details.....Done"
When I reboot, I still Xposed in the app drawer. Does this perhaps mean that the disable failed or is this just normal?
Any help is appreciated,
~Slim
At this point, Lollipop has not been officially pushed to all 2013 X yet.I have a US Cellular XT1055 rooted, using in India on CDMA network. Is there any way that I can update it to lollipop.?
Also I have posted one more question about GSM radio on this phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/gsm-radio-cellular-xt-1055-t3062303
If you use fastboot to flash system.img and recovery.img from the SBF of your ROM (actually mfastboot for system.img), that will take care of unwinding all the changes and will allow you to take the OTA. The Xposed apk might still be installed - you can uninstall it if you want, but it still being there doesn't affect your system partition after you flash system.img.Bump. Does anyone know whether or not this is even a real problem or if I'm concerned about nothing?
Thanks,
~Slim
