Twrp is a recovery , right? So it do not touch the boot partitions?

Twrp is a recovery.

But in A/b systems the boot image contains the recovery in it's ram disk.

We don't have a separate recovery partition in mi a1.

What about the guide in the aospextended OP?

Can you try following that?

Basically the way you install a custom rom for mi a1 is the same for every version.

Unlock device in fastboot
Boot (not flash) twrp image from mohancm thread in fastboot
Wipe device
Flash rom and twrp flashable (not the img one)
Reboot to recovery
Flash gapps and magisk
Reboot

That should do it.

I am currently on nougat rooted using twrp and have magisk and xposed installed .so firstly pls tell me is these all things are available if i upgrade to oreo and also wanted to know if i want to flash the oreo latest version then how to do it and also is the oreo is better working than nougat? Pls guide me about this

I have a custom rom installed (RR)... I have removed all fingerprints and pattern locks... As I want to flash another rom... But when I boot to recovery, it still asks me for a pattern lock (which I deleted) to decrypt the data.

Should I go ahead and provide the unlock code and install the rom? Will I run into a situation where I have less than 64gb of storage( some storage lost due to encryption issues)

I think you should format data to remove the lock code.

Not wipe, but format data.

It will delete your data, and your internal sd card, so backup the important stuff.

i went to resurrection remix rom from official cosmic only to discover that i m unable to add one fingerprint. so i reverted back to cosmic os again but the fp issue still persisted. i again tried to clean flash cosmic os but this fp sensor doesnt detect my fp. how do i solve this issue?

Now my question is, how do I install the new OTA updates without messing everything up. I tried flashfire but it can't pull the downloaded patch. So now I have downloaded OPR1.170623.026.V9.5.9.0.ODHMIFA - Fastboot
Is my next step to fastboot and just install it through my PC? How do I do that without messing stuff up?

For support about this, ask in the appropriate thread for resurrection and cosmic.

My suggestion here is to format data in twrp. Not just wipe but format. It will delete your user data and format internal sdcard too, so backup important stuff.

Yes, use miflash tool and chose the option save user data in the bottom of the application.

You have a step by step guide in my thread in the guides, news and discussion section.

You'll have to root again after updating.
