these are the steps i took that i posted in anther thread:

it worked great, was on seans skyics, but the screen to enter unlock code would not come up w/virgin sim installed. so odin'd rogers stock ics, kept rogers sim card in, went throught setup of phone, restarted phone w/virgins sim and the unlock screen came up, entered the 8 numbers, took a few seconds and voila, it said network unlocked, or something like that, reinstalled skyics from backup, kept virgin sim card in, and still unlocked.
i got the code in 3-4hrs on a sat afternoon, i paid a little less because i had ebay dollars, hes selling it for US $7.05 , i didnt even need the unlock, but for that price wtf!

Wow cool thing, I was just thinking of unlocking it for no reason in case I go back home and need to use the phone.

Quick questions:
1) If I don't have a different SIM, there is no way of unlocking with this?
2) I can see from reading, but just to double check, since you unlocked you must have reflashed things few times, did unlock stay? (some people I've seen reporting it gone after flashing stock)
3) What are the steps? just put in diff. SIM and a code pops up?

U need to be on stock to supply code and be on another carriers sim inserted, an unlock code window pops up when the other sim is inserted but won't show up again if entered valid code.
Yes my phone is still unlocked when using my sons virgin mobile sim card, I use that for testing.
The only way to tell if the unlock code still works is if you return to stock and see if the unlock code window appears with the other carriers sim card inserted.
The biggest prob is the radio and it freq the other carrier is using and to setup the phone to work with those radios/frequencies like tmobiles

Ordered last night (sunday) 8pm eastern. Got my code ~6hrs later. Applied the code just now without any drama - new phone is unlocked.

Ahhh what the h€ll. Going to buy the unlock, I go to the states all the time might as well get a sim card and make cheaper calls home vs roaming fees. Get hit with $100-200 every time I go away.
