Well, for the first time since I've been an Android user, I bailed back to unrooted stock. :(

I went to the zoo with my family yesterday, and the ambient temperature (~78-80F), plus whatever the phone was doing, got to be too much and it throttled the device hard. Taking pictures was miserable, and video was right out. I got severely goofed up video full of stuttering and audio dropouts. (It's not the card either, I've recorded video just fine to it before) I played with the kernel governors a bit during the day, but the best I could get was passable. Even texting was miserable.

Naturally, once we got back to the car and it cooled down, it was fine again, but that was enough. I backed up my pictures and blew it back to stock Nougat.

The only thing I'm seriously missing is adblock/ipfirewall support. I bought a license for package disabler pro, and that is fixing most of the bloatware bull. Nova launcher hides most of the TouchWiz stuff I don't care for, etc. I am going to have rework my apps, or start buying ad-free upgrades, because that crap is getting old real fast.

Get adguard and pay for the premium. So far it has blocked every ad online and on apps. It also has a firewall you can choose what apps get Internet connection saving you battery. Anyhow, reading this from users like you makes me not wanna root my phone ???

So I've been running awesome here and I need you guys to try this root.bat file for me. This is the one I use and I DONT use any kernel editor apps or make any adjustments what so ever.

Do NOT have any kernel editors or Lspeed installed when installing this please. Make sure you have the eng kernel installed. On your PC just unzip the file and double click the root.bat file to install.

After phone reboots instantly power off phone and reboot to recovery and wipe cache partition then reboot.

After power up let phone sit for 5-10 mins DON'T TOUCH IT, I KNOW ITS HARD BUT JUST DON'T DO IT!!!

Reboot one last time

Once it boots up open to home screen and just let it settle for a minute. DO NOT go into super su app, just leave it be!!! Open a app you know needs root permission and make sure the root prompt pops up. Let me know how the phone runs.

Thanks

Does this use performance governor or does it change to a different governor? I'm on the T-Mobile S7 flat and will be willing to test it out.

Was going to try this but I get an error or a message saying how it may have been removed.

I currently have it set up pretty good but if it sits for a while without using my flat S7 it starts to lag then slowly start to speed up again. Still a pretty good usable set up.

eng kernel still cripples your phone

Lag? i have read that there is lag but also see some improvements just wanna know people's opinion..
I am a heavy user so Iam not sure where people are saying lag is barely visible. After tweaking and using for 72 hours i had to go back. the experience is not fluid. it stutters from time to time. In a nut shell things wont improve because of the eng kernel. This really cripples your device. If you only watch movies, web browse, ims, some music and 2d gaming it is doable as a driver. But if ou find yourself a heavy users, hds movies, huge flac files, 3d unreal 4 gaming and such. you will cry and breakdown to stock.
Only thing i miss is adaway. thats all.

What games do you use that causes lag. I'm a gamer and notice on some games it lags and other run smoothly. Modern strikes oddly runs pretty smooth for me on mobile data where as on rooted marshmallow inwas impossible to play. Candy crush lags a lot but soda crush doesn't at all. I have my S7 flat t mobile rooted running pretty smooth but when it sits with out any use for a while and I get on it it starts to lag for a few minutes but with more usage it runs fast. I also have all my recent apps running in the back grand. Battery life isn't to had either but I have a habit if always plugging it in when I drive around. ( I heard it's not good to do that and to let it drain but again it's a bad habit of mine) I'm still running test with other ways of root. Bit so far the first original root method seems to run the nest for me with the extra tweaks. I've tried the No_BS _rom but everything goes wrong with Samsung's apps like S heath and app store. I dirty flash that with my first original root and was able to get android pay working. So No_BS_rom V6 is ok bit now V10 is out and going to give that a try. Plus from a few post back there's suppose to be a root with out any lag that I want to test out as well. All in good time. Yes lag is still there bit for me it's very minimal. I also consider my self a pretty heavy user. I think people just have to find a way to get there device working with certain tweaks as every device is different and only certain tweaks work with their device. It's no easy task as it took me a while to find what works best for mine and is very time consuming . Over all I'm pretty content and happy with where I am with my S7 flat.

The problem is that it isn't consistently laggy, and it can really vary widely. In a cool room with little running, my phone was practically like stock. Smooth as silk. Once it got warmed up a bit from doing something (running apps) it would lag a bit from time to time. Once it was actually warm to hot, or in a hot environment, the lag turned into flat out stuttering. You never know from time to time what to expect, and I think that's because it's always close to the edge and occasionally gets pushed over.

I really, really didn't want to go back to stock. Had I made the call during the original return window, I'd likely have taken it back. However, I've realized that the only two things I was using root for were backing up and restoring apps and ad blocking. I haven't really been using Titanium Backup all that much period lately, as I've slimmed my app load down to just my daily drivers and the occasional game, so I don't really mind that one too much - especially now that I know I can turn off auto-updates in the Play store. The second issue is more of a PITA, but it has prompted me to start downloading better apps or paying for the no-ad versions. I really only have a few apps I "need", so I figure it will cost me fairly little to get rid of them that way. (I use MyRadar a lot, so got the pro version - it came with the bonus of not leaving the bottom of the screen blank)

The only other issue is that I can't get my favorite font now because of Samsung's new font signing idiocy, but the stock font isn't terrible.

I dunno. I want to try the newer root solutions, but it's hard to argue with stock on this device. It is so buttery smooth right now compared to the engineering kernel.

I play heroes of incredible tales which is based on unreal 4 engine. even adjust graphics value from 6 to 3 caused game play to stutter with low fps. My battery life was decent and tweaked things like crazy. But at times during the day the phone will have random slows downs as similar to when your first booted and values were not loaded from lspeed and gov. At the end of day i didn't pay $700 for a crippled experience. Smooth sailing all the way for me. I miss having viper, but corrected that by buying a dac. I miss adaway but will give dns66 a shot. I can also finally force multi window for all apps on nougat without root.

So for me root running stock is more than livable and the features of root has caught up while having the best battery and performance. But lesson learned last carrier samsung phone I will ever buy.

Nicely said. If you stress the cpu and gpu. The kernel goes into shock and the device heats up and stutters. This has been my experience. Stock is even faster now too as well with the s8 launcher imo.

If you are going back to stock, yes all of them. If you can find a zip with the CSC_HOME, use that one along with the AP, BL, CP and you will not lose any of your data on your phone.

Hope this helps...
