Brilliant! The first few times this happened, it was cured by a reboot. This time nothing worked. I tried Safe Mode, clearing Cache. Nothing. Until this! I was literally backing up to do a factory restore. This was a last ditch effort. Lifesaver.Same happened to me. Stock Pixel XL, 128GB, Oreo. Even applied the latest September update but no dice.
Do the "Nova Launcher" fix.
1. Install Nova Launcer. nb. Play Store not installing anything for me, so downloaded the apk with Chrome (google for Nova Launcher.apk).
2. Allowed from unknown Sources
3. Opened Nova from App drawer (or can set as default launcher).
4. Hold down on empty space -> Widgets -> scroll the bar across to Activities. Hold down and drag onto home screen somewhere.
5. Scroll down to Setup Wizard and hold down on "SetupWizardUpgradeActivity".
6. Complete the setup options and candy!
3 Months ad-free for you, my friend!
