Looks like a rooted rom is already available: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...0/nexus-one-htc-passion-images-in-signed-zip/

Also, cyanogen (rom builder for dream/MT3G) tweeted that the N1 is in fact rooted....
just got the same tweet from Cyanogen a little bit ago too. OMG!! OMG!! OMG!!! :)

Can't be a better way to start off 2010 then having a ROOTED Nexus One in your hand, posting in this thread from formally posting in the DREAM (G1) thread!!!

Cheers and Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!
Come on January 5th!!!!!!

Does this mean that current "preview"-nexus one phones DO have an unlocked SPL?

What happens if the one sold online DOESNT?
In that case I doubt you will be able to replace it easily if you don't have root or fastboot... (in case it only accepts signed update.zip files and no fastboot mode and such...)

I guess another hack/exploit would be required if that was the case...

If I can enable Tethering on day 1 (either it's built into the OS or through ROOT like on our G1's) I own this phone I'll be in all my glory
I also must be able to tether on day one! I'm coming from WM to Android. Assuming w/o root, What apps do I need to USB tether? Can I download them directly to the Nexus? What drivers will my XP PC need? Just trying to get ready for this bad boy...

assuming it works the same as other android phone, fastest wasy to get tether is using PDAnet by June Fabrics. its on the market and also available to download via their website http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php

its free trial and when the trial ends, you cannot use it to connect to https sites. http works fine.

drivers you need are just the std adb drivers, should be installed the first time you connect the phone to your pc.

Cool thanks. Also, can I download it directly to the N1? and does Android have a default File Manager? Just trying to get ready for the move from WM to this bad boy!

I made the move from WinMo, which I used since the Cassiopeia days, to Android and have never looked back. Don't even think twice. Android has everything plus a whole lot more. You want file managers? There are so many different 5-star file managers that I have a hard time choosing between them.

Don't sweat the WinMo-to-Android move. It was the BEST gadget decision I've ever made. The only problem is that I am utterly and hopelessly addicted to playing with the platform. But I suppose there could be worse things.

yes, download direct from the phone via the android market.
as for the default file manager, there isnt one. i would suggest getting astro from the market as well.
