So you didn't trip Knox? I don't know a lot but I believe there's only a mod to flash via TWRP to unlock the hotspot. Also some ROMs have this same native hotspot hacked already.

I am currently running the Odexed Blue ROM. There are a few others to choose from also that have the hacked hotspot but a few use those Xposed modules but my experience with them wasn't so good. Odexed blue is more of a stock themed ROM with some tweaks.

Thanks for the reply...but I have another question. is using the native hacked hotspot, better than using a wifi tether app? If so why?

I'm sure the data speeds being tethered will be the same result it's just nice to have the hotspot hacked so you don't have to find a WiFi tether app, download it and set it up (which sometimes it's a pain in the @$$). Your phone has this preinstalled its just locked. I would rather not have another app in my app drawer personally. Also in the ROM I'm running there is a toggle for the native hotspot app all you have to do is hit it and you can begin tethering (see screenshot) vs. having to navigate to the WiFi tether app every time. No problem that's what xda is for just don't forget to hit the thanks button :D

Now since this is the native hotspot..is there a way your service provider knows your using their hotspot? I was under the notion that with a tether app, they only see data being used. But they dont know if your just streaming or browsing on your phone regularly. Whereas the native hotspot they can somewhat tell what you are doing.

Do you have Sprint? I've used the native hotspot with no issues. Sprints data is unlimited so even if they can somehow tell (which they can't, data in and out is data in and out) they are still unlimited.

Haha no problem. Just know that when you flash a custom recovery (TWRP) you will trip Knox and your warranty thru Samsung is void and there is no way to reset the Knox counter (yet). This only affects the Samsung warranty and does not affect Sprint's insurance. I've only read some people hitting like 100gb/month and Sprint will possibility tell you to slow down or they will cancel your contract. I've tethered my phone to my smart TV with Netflix a few times and only reached like 40gb so I see making 100gb/month quite hard.

Ooooh yea 100gb would be hard for me as well...I average about 18gb a month, and I thought that was alot. I heard about the knox trip, and that doesn't bother me. So after work I am looking forward to being a note 3 member. Thanks again for your help.

just a bit of info...
check the development section for the wifi hotspot mod.
i had a thread there, and there is another by joshbeach

it is totally possible to get the wifi hotspot without twrp.
as long as you have root you can copy the two files over manually using any root enabled file explorer.

hope that helps.

Tripping knox is just to let your carrier and the manufacturer know you altered your device's software thus voiding your warranty. You will get a service refusal from both your carrier and manufacturer on either hardware or software. So as long as you know this then go ahead trip knox and have fun. I mean you can now upgrade every 6 months now with a phone trade in or a 1 year upgrade with no phone trade in. They don't even check if you tripped knox when your trading in your phone. So go ahead trip knox we're getting upcoming phones anyway. Out with the old and in with the new.

How would Sprint know if you tripped Knox? I used the one up program and gave them a rooted s3 with a stock ROM as my trade in. The sprint stores around me can barely navigate thru the phones UI let alone would have any idea how to check if knox was tripped. So your saying Sprint can tell and would refuse me service thru their TEP service?

Yes the techs can check. All they have to do is go to download mode and look at the odin bootloader where is say knox 0x0 will be 0x1 letting them know you altered your device
