How big a problem is LCD burn/shadow on Note 8?

Interesting. Thanks for the link. The more I look in the XDA forums, the more I am second guessing my choice on getting this phone. Between the screen burn, the peeling paint, the charging port burning out, mysterious cracks in the screen, etc... I am wondering if I should have done a little more research. So far, knock on wood, this first month has been trouble free and hopefully it stays that way.
Rather think of it this way. How many millions upon millions do you think Samsung sold of this device? When you Google it, how many reports and posts do you get that state the strange and weird problems that all those millions of people are having?
It's one thread on XDA-Developers with a few people that has had unfortunate incidents. To prevent screen burn-in is a simple solution: don't leave your phone on full brightness, just laying on the desk, in one app, for 4 hours, without allowing it to even turn off for 2 minutes. The screen won't burn within a couple of minutes, on auto-brightness. No need to be overly conservative, but also don't treat it like it's unbreakable.

High brightness and static images are poison to an OLED screen. My LG G Flex 2 is ~3 years old with no burn-in, but the same is true of my Note 4 (just has water damage).

I'm planning on picking up a Note 8 soon. Burn-in is the least of my worries, since super bright screens irritate my eyes.

Mine's ****ed. The paint is chipped and the screen has so many shadows burned in.

I don't care though, it's almost 1.5 years old. I'll just have the frame/screen and a battery replaced and it will be like new again.

I have had my Note 8 for just over a year and I have visible burn in on my screen. I have used it extensively for gaming and I know that is the reason for it. The most visible burn is the bands at the top and bottom of the screen from the notification bar and the Navigation bar at the bottom of the screen. I can also see some elements of the game display in the middle of the screen if I look closely but neither of these bother me much.

I had the same problem with my Note 4 before it died. It had the same issue, so I guess I am not surprised that I see it on my Note 8.

Repairs for the Note line come at a high price. Ubreak charges $239 (authorized chain), and Samsung centers are about the same. It's worth mentioning that they also replace the band and battery, too. But for a little more one could simply buy another N8 or save for a N9.

Where are located..... That price isn't in my country. Refurbished n8 is roughly au$600-$800. New screen/frame and battery is $350 if I do it myself (which isn't difficult).

Ubreak is located in the US, along with an actual Sammy repair center. A used Note 8 costs > $250 in the states (cheaper ones usually have "LCD shadow").

When the repair is done by Sammy or Ubreak the service includes: Screen, band, and battery. Diagnostic is free.

My friend's Note 8 has some nasty burn-in due to watching YouTube in the small "portrait" mode all the time on full brightness. The other burn he has is from the on-screen keyboard being on for most of the time (social media junkie). Whenever I have to have my screen on full brightness, I try to flip the screen periodically to "even-out" the pixel wear. I usually go full-screen whenever possible to keep the entire screen animated, if I have to go full brightness.

I've had my note 8 since pre orders came out. Yes, you can burn an image in the screen. I play lineage 2 on mine and it's burnt in the screen bad.

That's weird that a game would do that. The screen is constantly changing. You mean like the controls burned on?

I've had absolutely no problems with burn in and I've had the Note8 since around the time it came out I think. I don't understand how people can endure the full brightness for so long that it burns stuff in ahah

On my S7, I would use it a lot on my motorcycle in a RAM mount with Waze for navigation and I would have to have the brightness turned all the way up. I know that caused burn in on that. I have only had my Note 8 for about 2 months but plan on doing the same thing with it. It's been too crappy to ride so I'm not sure how bright I will have to make it or it will work out.

You could buy an LCD/IPS based phone, then install Here Maps (or any with offline maps). Alternatively, use hotspot from your Note to feed the mounted device. G5s, V20s, iPhone SE and so on are dirt cheap.

Patiently (well maybe not so patiently) awaiting the Pie update so I can find out. I already got a taste of it with drl7 but went back so I can get the official update...

I have had my phones connected up by bluetooth to the bike's audio which works very well. Adding one more device in the mix would complicate things a bit. And I would really like to use my Note 8 because of the screen size. I got by with the S7 but screen size was a bit of a challenge as my eyes age. My preferred navigation app is Waze now because I find that it stays very current with traffic, problems on the road, etc. I think it works even better than Google maps. I can't wait for the Pie update to give "Dark mode" and "Night mode" a try to see how well it works.

Wait..What???

I've always been curious to know how and where Waze gets its updates from, as this would be Google's forte in terms of crowd-sourcing. Here in Jamaica, Waze is better suited for motorists, but not pedestrians. For this reason, Google Maps is the better all-rounder here.

Since you have Bluetooth audio for turn-by-turn directions, do you still need maximum screen brightness, or do you just need to reduce the screen resolution while out in the sun to make the font larger (at reduced screen brightness)?
