How can I tell if swap is on or not?

If I go to terminal and type swap I get swapiness: 28 but in Swap the app I have it set to 60 and to use the swap partition that I created... but I have serious doubts as to weather or not it's using that. Everyone talks about how quick their roms are but every one I've tried is slow as heck. The phone will vibrate 4 times before the ring sounds and three times before I see who's calling..

if your using a Hero rom its better to have your ringtones on the phone and not on the SD card or else there is significant lag on them. I normally put my ringtones and notiffications on the Rom 1st then resign them.

as far as knowing if your swap is working I usually check with swapper app found in the market.
