How did this happen?
Why did I get a notice for blaaksheep's post?🤭
View attachment 5686471

The matrix is playing trixs again...
First (mis)quoted you, then edited (still linked to your profile) 🤷‍♂️
It happened as @Timmmmaaahh! correctly stated. In the first version of the post you've been mentioned and therefore the notification went out to you. Then obviously the member recognised the mistake but only corrected the name but not the account ID. Screenshot from the post edit history:

The system worked as it was supposed to do.

Yeah I see that but -how- did that happen?
You saying the OP deliberately did that or did the matrix fart?
The feature works exactly as intended. Let me explain it in greater detail:
  1. For whatever reason (only @jhford can explain this one) @blackhawk was typed instead of @blaacksheep
  2. Then the post was edited but only the name was changed.
    1660641332448.png
  3. As the [USER] code was left intact, the system was instructed to keep linking to @blackhawk (as it will prevent itself from putting a [USER] code within a [USER] code.
  4. The post was saved this way, leaving a @blackhawk profile link within a @blaacksheep mention.
So yes, OP most likely did that (by accident). Unless of course there is a deeper issue that caused this mention to appear but only @jhford can elaborate on that (no obligations!) so let's hope that mention is followed :)

Search isn't too bad once you get acquainted to it. Big fan of @lebigmac's suggestion to search the inbox!

Speaking of the 🔍 search function : How can I search for a keyword in my inbox?

Thanks! (y)
Currently impossible. I personally browser search for usernames page by page. I would really appreciate a feature like this as well! As a moderator we have a great deal of PMs (ask us anything!) and it's hard to keep track of them at times. Private communication isn't accessible by anyone but the people in the conversation. Making them searchable would require generating an index per member, which I bet would take up lots of extra space. XenForo is add-on based and I did find this AndyB Conversation Search add-on but it's hard to predict what impact this would have on the rest of the system. We're probably one of the largest XenForo implementations in the world so I'm sure they're a bit hesitant to test new things ^_^
My guess is as good as anyone's though as I have no insights in the web management of XDA, which is an entirely different team. We're just cannon fodder, lol.

Well... seeing I already misspelled blaaksheep's* name once already in this thread I'm inclined to agree🤣

*Edit, twice; blaacksheep🤣

Since the day I have joined there is this issue which happens on mobile. I think it happens on my desktop as well. When I am logged in every section of the forum acts like I am a guest browsing the forum until I look at a thread. Once I look at a post it shows I'm signed in I can go back to subforums & see I am still signed in. When I go back to the forums index main page it acts again like I am a guest browsing and I cannot create new threads because of this. Only when I look at a post does it realize I am logged in.

-Add forums for phones when they are released. (example: I have xperia 10 iv, it has been out 3+ month, and there are many posts asking if/when a forum will be created for it.
-Add forums for less popular phones. I have a stack of phones (admittedly older now, but not when I was searching XDA for them unsuccessfully) that never had forums.
-Make it clear which models/instructions apply/don't apply. Sometimes information is interchangeable between models and other times it specifically is not.
-Provide a "procedure tree" for what people need to know/do to accomplish what they want. Guides are tedious to write and it is difficult to know which makes and models and variants each procedure and each step applies to (or doesn't) The most common information needed is not actually that diverse.

Add forums for phones when they are released.
This already happens for the more popular devices. Sometimes even long before they are released, such as the Nothing Phone (1) recently (forum was up before specs were known). Xperia phones have never had any developer love from Sony by my knowledge so this community hasn't really returned the favour. If there's enough interest the device will be added though. There are 72 Sony sections so that doesn't seem too bad. There is an Sony Xperia 1 IV that hasn't been very busy so perhaps it can be shared for now? We'll happily move all threads to their respective section once it's created. I see one request for the Xperia 10 IV in *** New Device Forum Requests *** so it doesn't appear to be so popular here.

I don't fully understand what you mean by these points. Is it about device models? Apply to what?
A "procedure tree" for creating threads like guides? That would limit the creativity of our members. You decide how our content looks like! :) XDA Forums isn't a provider of information, it's a facilitator of free sharing.

Welcome to XDA. It's like visiting a foreign land and we all speak ADB fluently.
Maybe we should have some sort of "boot camp" for ADB.
It's like we're a restaurant kitchen and we give a (small) groan whenever a new employee comes in and asks how we chop onions.
We're all short order cooks and you could be one too! Slinging images and mods around like there's no tomorrow.
In any case, it's worth sinking your teeth into ADB. Just google it.

Nevermind, clearly you're either not as interested in suggestions as you claimed or not interested in implementing them.

Quite the opposite! It's a shame you've interpreted it that way. I very much welcome suggestions and I love thinking with other members of ways we could implement them - even though I have little impact on features. There's some unanswered questions we could zoom in on to further clarify your idea.

There are many interactions requiring android ADB while users start dipping their toes into unlocking, adding TWRP and trying new builds. A category / sub-forum for these google tools use and gotchas might get users here to one place focused on the ADB related concerns. ADB backup and restore have plenty of pitfalls.

Could you please make a dark scroll bar in the dark site theme for Chromium-based browsers? To do this, all you need to do is add this rule to the CSS file for the dark theme:

CSS:
:root {
  color-scheme: dark;
}

And now the scroll bar is light in color with a dark site theme, which looks bad.

There are a few ways to potentially improve the XDA forums:
  1. Encourage more active moderation to keep discussions on topic and to remove spam or offensive posts.
  2. Consider implementing a system for a rating or flagging posts to make it easier for users to identify high-quality content.
  3. Increase user engagement by encouraging users to participate in community-building activities, such as hackathons or coding competitions.
  4. Introduce new features and functionalities, such as a mobile app or integration with other platforms, to make it easier for users to access and participate in discussions.
  5. Consider creating a more personalized user experience by implementing a system that suggests content based on the user's interests.
  6. Make sure that the forum is easy to navigate, search and understand.
  7. Create a clear and detailed guideline on how to post and engage in the forum.

Why I'm expiriencing problem with searching my own posts? What is going on ?
I can't hook up with my old posts and find previous solutions that I wrote for users.
How are you trying to do this?

I just tried by typing your name in search:
    1694675366012.png

Then select it and click search:
    1694675386012.png

This is what I get (all your posts):
    1694675354843.png

I also tried searching for the keyword "solutions":
    1694675480822.png

Which returns the expected result of your above post:

Perhaps you're experiencing issues on mobile? Make sure to detail the exact steps and include screenshots when applicable.

Technically speaking that forum_engine is garbage.
I'm no friend of JavaScript, but people's expectations make it necessary.
xda gets a lot of traffic and CloudFlare reduces the traffic to the backend.

I figured since we turned this forum into a Questions forum with up and down voting for each answer, I'd ask:

How can we make the XDA forums better?

No answer is too outlandish...be creative. We're listening!

Maybe you think we have too many ads, or maybe you think search totally sucks. Perhaps you want more theme options, or you want more ways to learn development. Whatever your idea is, we want to hear it! :)

Do something to get rid of the elitism that permeates so many forums here at XDA. This drives away new users who would otherwise want to participate in the community. It also drives away old users who used to participate more.

Source: an old user who used to participate more.

Suggestion : I would like to implement Teamviewer or any similar free program to this forum or it's certain section to help others in that manners directly rather than write whole set of pages for one thing. It would be great for Android head units section.
One of the cornerstones of XDA is learning how to mod one's device, this is not a remote support service. There can of course be 1-on-1 support but that should just be set up between those members privately, including assuming the liability of all security implications. Above all, it defeats the purpose of the community: sharing knowledge.

    Hey Emily!

Thank you. Some great ideas there! Despite the title, I don't have much say in the direction our XDA ship is sailing but from experience I can provide a little feedback.
    1. We're currently a strong team of amazing people (here's a list) I have the honour of working with to keep this forum clean. You can't imagine the number of spam and such that doesn't even reach public view. Every single day our team makes vast efforts for the love of community. Of course, we can always use an extra hand. By all means, people, become a moderator!
    2. Some things are already in place. On the homepage there's the Top Forums, which is perhaps a bit too general. There's also a What's New to see what's currently going on. When viewing a thread, there's a 'TOP LIKED POSTS' on the right side that gives you a general idea of the most relevant posts in that thread. An interesting page is Notable Members, which gives you an overview of the most popular contributors. The current like-system should already give an indication of content quality.
    3. Very much a fan of this! Hear her out, XDA! 😃
    4. The XDA app is a whole other category... I think there's currently a pretty low threshold to participate in discussions but ideas are always welcome!
    5. Not a fan of this myself. Do we want to become another social media platform? I'm not sure people want to be subjected to yet another algorithm. It would also defeat the purpose of many privacy focused projects here.
    6. We've already transitioned to a newer system that can better handle the mountains of data that XDA holds. It's still just a crazy amount so keeping a clean overview is a massive task. I personally think it's not too bad but there's always room for improvement. Search could be much better indeed.
    7. You may have spotted this gem on the Notable Members page, @sd_shadow has your back! Make sure to check out the [Index] XDA 2021: How to Navigate the New Site Layout thread, a masterful guide of all things XDA. Oh and don't forget the Forum Rules! :cowboy:
I hope this has been somewhat helpful to you and I'm sure your ideas won't go unnoticed :)

Yes, it's a "Trans" forum. It can compete in the forum olympics as a device because it identifies as a "device" despite not packing any internal or external device characteristics from birth.

This is in accordance with our more tolerant ways of thinking these days.
We have moved beyond HTC exclusivity and we are now LGHTC+

We've also sucked the chocolate off the chocolate coated nuts making us just plain nuts, but crazy as we are, we're not so deluded as to keep XDA Assist as a device
.... so I've cancelled its device membership.
