One of the main things to do on the forum that would make it MUCH better was ME getting back on the moderating team, but, I'm loving my lifetime vacation... Hugs to all!! 😁
Hi @FSadino! I might not know you yet, but if you choose to come back, the more, the merrier. :)

... would be to remove the "inactive" from my title and just make it "Recognized Developer".
There's no reason for the requirements to be so stringent and arbitrary.
Like art, we know a developer when we see one.

The most wanted feature of the current forum is a change so that searching the current thread via the Search This thread button searches the current thread instead of the entire forum.

Currently, it is not intuitive to click on the x to turn off the search prompts for the entire forum.

This affliction of the search engine is mentioned in many places in the forum.

The XDA search engine is possessed by digital demons. Part of the pack the original developers made with the devil to avoid selling their souls for success*. Yes, well...
Samsung's Finder works better😖

*vicious rumor, probably true

This is something to take to the Recognized Developer Committee, I realize you have done so, and were given a reason for the Inactive.

Bottomline as with all Committees, Titles are addressed specifically to those Committees in question. (y)

Is the current search function inflicted, or is it the infliction? :) Either way... +1, and for the record, IMO the current search IS the infliction, and it ails XDA beyond just ease of search.

In addition to intended scope of search across forum or thread, in many or (even most) cases XDA search replaces intended criteria with a wildcard (*) thereby finding all posts... unless the wildcard is noticed and is manually replaced by the intended criteria for a second search in different template. By that point many people are looking at the wrong search results and are wondering why the thing they searched for is not in the results.

That is beyond user-unfriendly, that is broken, and betrays the fact that the word "search" is the first word in the first line of the XDA Rules.

That new XDA members (or even existing members) see that the primary rule is un-followable, is not necessarily conducive to taking the rest of the rules seriously, or taking the site content seriously for that matter.

If XDA had a viable search function I might have an actual signature, something like "Keep Fingers Out of Cage (use them to search)" :D

Okay, perhaps that (previous post) was a bit melodramatic regarding concerns about a potential descent into chaos just because the search engine is messed up... but on the more practical side of things: the absence of a viable search function does impact the nature of discussions and content in the threads. Repetition and attempts to reference things seem to have become an increasing percentage of posts in some threads. Effective search, somewhat by design and intentions, would lower that percentage.

I really don't understand how we have
...cutting-edge machine learning algorithms...
for AI Moderators, but somehow our basic search functions don't even work. :ROFLMAO:

Someday we might have AI XDA members who are programmed to varying degree to search or not search, some of which will be programmed to complain to varying degree about inefficient search features. :D

Do what Gookill does; add lots of targeted ads on top of the screwed up biased search results to distract and redirect the user's original objective.

I think that it could be a good idea to add "quick search" in specific thread and also add possibility to search forum for file attachments :)
Do you know if Xenforo alllows for this or if respective (free) add-ons are available?

Basically there is something like that already on this forum. You go to the top to search bar and click it, then from dropdown menu you will pick "This thread". But when I will copy part of your response for example "Do you know if Xenforo" and click search then it says "no results". It looks like it is not looking for strings in posts. I have found addon which seems to do the job(with live demo) and it is HERE - QuickSearch 1.1.0 as far as I see is just 10$. I'm not familiar with Xenforo so I don't know it is one time purchase or subscription. I also have found addon to add google search option HERE but I don't see demo so it is impossible to test it for me but it maybe worth to test it. If we talk about attachments - I did not found anything free :( Also very interesting thing on this forum for me is why when I make search box at the top active(I will click it to write something) and I start typing or pressing backspace to delete characters then it starting scrolling posts in the thread?

I noticed the same thing:
Searching a thread Is worse. If I search this thread for "forums here at XDA" it says: "No results found.". However, when you look at the second post in this thread you will see that the very first sentence ends with "...forums here at XDA.". Clearly it doesn't work. That's why I have resorted to searching each page on a thread individually with "Ctrl + F" to find a string of words.

Here is a relatively secondary suggestion but before getting to it, so as to not loose site of what is important, it is my contention that having a viable search should be the first order of business, and furthermore that particular executive staff and decision-makers at xenforo, should be required to remain on-site at their desks until they have implemented viable search functions for all of the forums which they host, especially this one.

OK now to the suggestion: It would be nice if there were a setting which would have links to other posts go furl themselves That is to say: a setting which would force such links not to use the "unfurl" flag to preview the linked post. As the previews quite frequently don't contain the specific information being shared they serve little purpose, and they waste page scrolling space. Why should we have to furl those link when they could do it themselves.?

Suggestion : I would like to implement Teamviewer or any similar free program to this forum or it's certain section to help others in that manners directly rather than write whole set of pages for one thing. It would be great for Android head units section.

Why I'm expiriencing problem with searching my own posts? What is going on ?
I can't hook up with my old posts and find previous solutions that I wrote for users.
How are you trying to do this?

I just tried by typing your name in search:
    1694675366012.png

Then select it and click search:
    1694675386012.png

This is what I get (all your posts):
    1694675354843.png

I also tried searching for the keyword "solutions":
    1694675480822.png

Which returns the expected result of your above post:

Technically speaking that forum_engine is garbage.
I'm no friend of JavaScript, but people's expectations make it necessary.
xda gets a lot of traffic and CloudFlare reduces the traffic to the backend.

I figured since we turned this forum into a Questions forum with up and down voting for each answer, I'd ask:

How can we make the XDA forums better?

No answer is too outlandish...be creative. We're listening!

Maybe you think we have too many ads, or maybe you think search totally sucks. Perhaps you want more theme options, or you want more ways to learn development. Whatever your idea is, we want to hear it! :)

Do something to get rid of the elitism that permeates so many forums here at XDA. This drives away new users who would otherwise want to participate in the community. It also drives away old users who used to participate more.

Source: an old user who used to participate more.

One of the cornerstones of XDA is learning how to mod one's device, this is not a remote support service. There can of course be 1-on-1 support but that should just be set up between those members privately, including assuming the liability of all security implications. Above all, it defeats the purpose of the community: sharing knowledge.

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"

There are a few ways to potentially improve the XDA forums:
    1. Encourage more active moderation to keep discussions on topic and to remove spam or offensive posts.
    2. Consider implementing a system for a rating or flagging posts to make it easier for users to identify high-quality content.
    3. Increase user engagement by encouraging users to participate in community-building activities, such as hackathons or coding competitions.
    4. Introduce new features and functionalities, such as a mobile app or integration with other platforms, to make it easier for users to access and participate in discussions.
    5. Consider creating a more personalized user experience by implementing a system that suggests content based on the user's interests.
    6. Make sure that the forum is easy to navigate, search and understand.
    7. Create a clear and detailed guideline on how to post and engage in the forum.
    Hey Emily!

Thank you. Some great ideas there! Despite the title, I don't have much say in the direction our XDA ship is sailing but from experience I can provide a little feedback.
    1. We're currently a strong team of amazing people (here's a list) I have the honour of working with to keep this forum clean. You can't imagine the number of spam and such that doesn't even reach public view. Every single day our team makes vast efforts for the love of community. Of course, we can always use an extra hand. By all means, people, become a moderator!
    2. Some things are already in place. On the homepage there's the Top Forums, which is perhaps a bit too general. There's also a What's New to see what's currently going on. When viewing a thread, there's a 'TOP LIKED POSTS' on the right side that gives you a general idea of the most relevant posts in that thread. An interesting page is Notable Members, which gives you an overview of the most popular contributors. The current like-system should already give an indication of content quality.
    3. Very much a fan of this! Hear her out, XDA! 😃
    4. The XDA app is a whole other category... I think there's currently a pretty low threshold to participate in discussions but ideas are always welcome!
    5. Not a fan of this myself. Do we want to become another social media platform? I'm not sure people want to be subjected to yet another algorithm. It would also defeat the purpose of many privacy focused projects here.
    6. We've already transitioned to a newer system that can better handle the mountains of data that XDA holds. It's still just a crazy amount so keeping a clean overview is a massive task. I personally think it's not too bad but there's always room for improvement. Search could be much better indeed.
    7. You may have spotted this gem on the Notable Members page, @sd_shadow has your back! Make sure to check out the [Index] XDA 2021: How to Navigate the New Site Layout thread, a masterful guide of all things XDA. Oh and don't forget the Forum Rules! :cowboy:
I hope this has been somewhat helpful to you and I'm sure your ideas won't go unnoticed :)

Yes, it's a "Trans" forum. It can compete in the forum olympics as a device because it identifies as a "device" despite not packing any internal or external device characteristics from birth.

This is in accordance with our more tolerant ways of thinking these days.
We have moved beyond HTC exclusivity and we are now LGHTC+

We've also sucked the chocolate off the chocolate coated nuts making us just plain nuts, but crazy as we are, we're not so deluded as to keep XDA Assist as a device
.... so I've cancelled its device membership.
