While you still haven't suggested anything solid, you conclude that we're "not willing". This seems defamatory, please only make constructive suggestions here instead of just dismissing the way this forum has been running for the past two decades.

Alas, my reply to https://xdaforums.com/t/how-can-we-make-the-xda-forums-better.4248103/post-88075971 was deleted without my consent.

This would probably my third suggestion related to the rules of the forum - in which circumstances a moderator has the right to delete or edit a message without the consent of the originator of the post.

Moderators can still see deleted posts, they’re just hidden from regular members.

Following the deletion of my reply, Timmmmaaahh! sent me a private message in which he stated "I was granting you the favour of replying in public, in the spirit of transparency".

I feel it would be better to get known of this arrogance.

It seems that members' rights of posting in public should be granted by moderator's favour.

Your duplicate posts were in violation of the rules. Plain and simple. It was explained to you why they were removed. Regardless of whether or not you agree with the rules, you, like all members of XDA, are required to follow them. You are not allowed to post whatever you want on XDA - your posts must fall within the rules. If they do not, they are subject to removal. This includes disrespectful and disparaging remarks to the moderator staff, or other reasons such as the allusion to things having been said in a private conversation.

The bottom line is, the rules as they stand have been decided on over many years by the forum admins as well as site owners. They aren't about to change because a few people don't want to comply. Indeed, when registering an account, one is required to agree to follow the Forum Rules as the terms of use of this site.

While constructive suggestions are welcome, insisting that the rules must be changed to accommodate you is not.

Then, it would be better to state in the rules what can not be posted in the forum.

My posts, including the deleted one, concerned neither porno, nor terrorism or anything near that.

How could the deletion be legitimized?

Hello,

Please continue this topic through private messages with Timmmmaaahh as initiated by him earlier. This thread is not meant to fix conflicts.
You'll have better results privately if you have something to clear up with this moderator.

Thank you.

It looks to me we need to clarify something, which I'm happy to discuss with you by private message or a conversation that also includes @Timmmmaaahh!, @V0latyle or @woodman, but I ask you to immediately stop your kind of posts!

This is a private and privately owned website and I don't recognise what constitutes any rights owned by you to post on this website. If you like to post whatever you want, please contact XDA's advertisement department:

Now that there are rules for members, are there any rules for moderators?

I am a Vipassana meditator.
I used to attend the course both as a student and as a server (the later worked on voluntary basis as well), and there are rules respectively for students and servers.

Lose the AMOLED burning bright white XDA, orange and red was a better logo😖
Blue is one of the worse colors for reading, it sucks😖
Degraded the site, didn't improved it... in my opinion and backed by science. Green is the most visible color per lumen to the human eye.

I was looking for a different thread (the one with a list of issues, fixed issues and nice to have) but, I think this thread is appropriate.

Would it be possible to also include the page indicator/selection on the top of the "Alerts" page?
Screenshot from 2022-12-29 17-22-23.png
Currently it is only on the bottom of the "Alerts" page.

Including it on the top of the "Alerts" page, would make it alot easier for catching up on posts and threads. 🤪

Cheers. :cowboy:

We need a new update working XDA android app to be able to interact with the forums instead of having to slug our way through a web browser!!!!!!!!!!!!

So all others should be closed, I think.
The best thing to do if you come across new threads like that is to report them and ask them to be moved into either of the above threads including a link to it.
Some mods will simply close, others will close with a link to either/or both of them but I don't think that will generally encourage the poster to go to those threads afterwards. At least if the thread has the post moved it means that they can still receive the answer they're looking for.

Going back and closing or merging all the others is pointless at this stage though

Could we get more intelligent line-breaking of user names in the little side box?
Break on camel-case, leave no orphans?

    antart.png

Edit: Ok, I see that the line breaking is just in the browser.

Edit^2: You can use either a (if you want it to show a hyphen) or else for a zero-width space.
The placement could be decided automagically or specified by the user?

    antart2.png

Edit^3: Maybe we can lend this user another "C"?

Edit^4: Since you're using UTF-8 already you can just insert \xe2 \x80 \x8b (zero-width space) in the "print string" for the user.

A letter to the admin team over XDA,
    @willverduzco @Oswald Boelcke @V0latyle @khusika @MikeChannon @Badger50 @svetius

Every now and then a lot of spam posts are made in XDA forums. Admins do a commendable job to remove those spam posts after a user reports them or they do it when they notice it but the problem is in the registeration page is what I believe. I also feel that admins and moderators can focus on actual forum moderation rather than removing spam post on the forum, seems like their time and energy is wasted in this unnecessary mess created by the spammer.

From what I have noticed is that people don't necessarily need to have a popular email user account from Gmail, outlook, Yahoo but they can even use any random temporary email services from many of the available websites online and can simply use it to registed over XDA.

An example of how easily once can create an account on XDA and then make spam posts. I don't intend to endorse spamming or harm XDA in anyway and I'm just sharing the loophole that allows someone to simply create user account on XDA, it may be because XDA wants a simple onboarding of user on its forums but times have changed now and XDA needs to improve on how user creates an account on the forum and exploits its vulnerabilities to spam other users creating an unwelcoming experience to other users on the forum.

I hope admins will look into this and would raise it to higher authorities in charge to implement changes to the registeration page so that only genuine email and domains are used to avoid spamming.

An example of a SPAM post on XDA.

Also please note the username of the person who created this post @backlinkdot117 and it totally seems to be created with malicious intent. This is not the only spam post on the forum but spamming is spread all across the forum.

    Thank you.
Well it's good to get suggestions.

It's interesting though, that the majority of recent spammers have not been using temporary / throw away email addresses. Gmail is frequently listed as the spammers email and Gmail addresses in a sense are just as easy to use and dispose of at will.

In practice it would be very difficult for us to say that in addition to registering at XDA you must also have an email address on our pre-approved list. Even if we did, a determined spammer will still go ahead and use a mainstream email. Keep in mind that much if not most spam is created by spam bots that relentlessly automate their processes to get around ANY block we might put in place. Quite often they will use dark web hacked Gmail accounts to post using genuine XDA user accounts.

I regret to say that large forum sites like ours will always be a target for spammers looking for a large membership to whom to show their spam.
Our Moderators will always have to deal with this problem though we do rely on our Members to click the Report button to keep our Mods informed about the posts of spammers.

I figured since we turned this forum into a Questions forum with up and down voting for each answer, I'd ask:

How can we make the XDA forums better?

No answer is too outlandish...be creative. We're listening!

Maybe you think we have too many ads, or maybe you think search totally sucks. Perhaps you want more theme options, or you want more ways to learn development. Whatever your idea is, we want to hear it! :)

Do something to get rid of the elitism that permeates so many forums here at XDA. This drives away new users who would otherwise want to participate in the community. It also drives away old users who used to participate more.

Source: an old user who used to participate more.

Suggestion : I would like to implement Teamviewer or any similar free program to this forum or it's certain section to help others in that manners directly rather than write whole set of pages for one thing. It would be great for Android head units section.
One of the cornerstones of XDA is learning how to mod one's device, this is not a remote support service. There can of course be 1-on-1 support but that should just be set up between those members privately, including assuming the liability of all security implications. Above all, it defeats the purpose of the community: sharing knowledge.

A 2-7 day waiting period to post for new members would discourage one thread wonders looking for a quick fix here rather than simple doing a Google search(s).
    Help dissuade spammers as well.
Those with a sincere interest would suck up the wait...

Yes, it's a "Trans" forum. It can compete in the forum olympics as a device because it identifies as a "device" despite not packing any internal or external device characteristics from birth.

This is in accordance with our more tolerant ways of thinking these days.
We have moved beyond HTC exclusivity and we are now LGHTC+

We've also sucked the chocolate off the chocolate coated nuts making us just plain nuts, but crazy as we are, we're not so deluded as to keep XDA Assist as a device
.... so I've cancelled its device membership.
