How do I get AdAway to run on my Z2 with LineageOS?

Apparently it can't write to /system/ even though it has root access.

Adaway has many versions, tho using 4.x ideal on Oreo+. Also, you should be using it systemlessly to avoid safety net related problems.

I have Adaway 4.2.2. SafetyNet is a Google Play thingy, right? I don't have that in my phone.

Certain apps check for it (PGO, Snapchat, DTV, Netflix, etc). I know 4.1.0 works on Pie, haven't tried 4.2.2.

I noticed Adaway doesn't work anymore. Simply changing the host file won't block ads it's basically a thing of the past. Ads also work through Webview and there are also services and receivers on newer Android versions that need to be blocked. Anyway if you're using stock Android the host file is write protected if you're on a custom rom I don't know.
