How happy are you with your Touchpad?

Like the title says, how happy are you with your Touchpad?

I'm asking because I want a tablet and had made up my mind that I was going to get the Transformer Prime. However I'm now considering getting a Touchpad refurbished from ebay tomorrow. I know the prime has a quad core processor with a better gpu but I'm wondering if the Touchpad will do what I want.

I want a tablet for Internet browsing, play some games, read (I read a lot) and also possibly use at work.

I am a concierge at a resort so if I use it at work I will need to be able to take people's info (name, number, etc) so I can call a show/resteraunt and make reservations. I would also need to be able to show pictures of seating charts to show them where they will be sitting. I need to be able to switch between their info and the pictures quickly.

Does it sound like the Touchpad will do what I want or should I hold out for the prime?

Also does a capacitive stylus work with the Touchpad to take hand written notes?

If I get the Touchpad I will most likely be putting cm7/cm9 on it.

For work purposes hp and android is not a good move. It's not native and will continue to be buggy. Hate to say it because I love my tp, but when it comes to work, I would use webos or another android device. Webos may be limited to what you want to accomplish too.

Do some heavy research on android/webOS/ipad reviews. They all do great things in their own right.

the touchpad will do everything you need it to do (I can't speak for the stylus) if you put on cm7 I suggest getting the 32gig for sure as cm7 takes up roughly 2 gigs. But with webos becoming open source the touchpad will only get better. Personally I find the touchpad relaxing. Its is isn't so overdone so everything works the way it should, switching between apps is very pleasant, there isn't much customization but sometimes that's overrated anyway. I have a phone and computer to customize, I've found that I want my tablet to just work. And the touchpad works better than the iPad I feel. Android works great on it, so you will have that choice if you want. Honestly, for the price, you can't beat it, quad core is just ridiculously unneeded for what you said you'd use your tablet for. Also, I enjoy the virtual keyboard on the touchpad.

I don't want an ipad they are to locked down for my taste(I had an iphone) Iproducts are to overrated Imo and are more like a fad. Plus if I'm going to spend $450+ I will just get the prime.

I'm thinking about getting the Touchpad and if it won't work the way I want it to I will just give it to my wife to play with and I will get the prime.

I agree with many of the comments.

As you are describing your use the TouchPad should work. I have not used a stylus myself, but I am fairly certain they will work with any capacitive screen, so they should work on the TouchPad. There is a whole thread on styluses in the accessory forum.

I also felt CM7 is buggy. I prefer webOS myself. The app switching, and multi-tasking is so much more intuitive in webOS. It's logical and elegant. Gingerbread does not multi-task in a easy to use way. I have not used Honeycomb, so I cannot speak to that. I think CM9 on the TouchPad will make this device a halo device. webOS just feels like it was designed with tablets in mind, ginderbread does not.

If you buy a TouchPad for $99, and the accessory pack for $79, you will have a stand to set it on (Touchstone charger), a keyboard, and a great case. Its like having a netbook that you never have to plug in or unplug.

If you get one on Sunday and don't like it, and your wife doesn't like it (both unlikely) your worst case scenario is that you sell it, double your money (at least), and use that to buy the prime.

I think if you buy it without any pre-conceived stereotypes, you will find your self pleasantly surprised and very happy with it. You really have nothing to lose if you buy it.

I love my Touchpad although I do miss the "cards" from WebOS. I know that during the first couple of days after I switched to Android I'd hit the home button and expect my app to go into a card instead of just going back to the home screen. I also ended up heavily modifying Android when I initially installed it on the Touchpad which slowed it down to the point where when I switched back to WebOS for something the increase in responsiveness and the fluidity of the OS really made me wonder whether I should stick with WebOS for the entirity of my ownership of the Touchpad ... but then the lack of the apps really started wearing on me and went back to Android with the knowledge of making slight modifications instead of trying to make it look exactly like ICS.

As far as I know, right now webOS doesn't support handwriting input. Everything else should work for you. Hit Precentral, and add a few patches or mods, and you should be set.

Also, in a few months, there should be some major changes to webOS, once the source is given a repository. :) :)

I have no complaints with the touchpad at all. I still find myself recommending it to people as a tablet to buy for $ value (even used or on craigs/ebay etc).

looking forward to putting the Android on it within the next week once I find some free time.

I changed mine to default to webOS instead on Android. I prefer webOS for most tasks, but every once in a while I will switch back. There is a reboot to webOS option in the power menu, but in my experience it just shuts it down.

I hope the ICS implementation is the same. Its nice knowing you have a backup OS, but with ICS I think I will make ICS my default.

Yeah, you can't actually get away from webos on the touchpad, cm7 is still in alpha testing so destroying webos would be a mistake, the deva set jr up to dualboot and its actually a really simple process, I just followed a YouTube video.

does android drop?

I had a Toshiba Folio 100 and after 1 or 2 hours of work Gingerbread used to get stuck i had to restart... same with honeycomb... but i guess that was a RAM thing...

what about touchpad? - do you need to restart it and if yes - how many times a day or on what hourly basis?
