Hello Everybody

I am planning to jumpship to Xioami Mi Mix 2 from LG G6.
I am mainly switching to Mi Mix 2 for the screen and can be in bleeding edge in terms of MiUI updates.

Please let me know your thoughts on this.

This question should be answered only from LG G6 perspective and not in general.

I actually did it about 2 weeks ago, I had the Korean version of the G6 with the Quad-DAC, so here goes my experience:

Why I like the LG G6:
- A lot easier to handle, I have regular size hands and the Mi Mix 2 is a bit wide, without a curved back, it doesn't feel that comfortable IMO.
- It has a headphone jack and with the Quad-DAC built in, wow it's miles better then the Mi Mix 2
- Wide angle, I miss that feature, it's just awesome taking wide angle pics
- Main Camera is just a bit better than the Mi Mix 2 in low light
Why I DON'T like the LG G6:
- Horrible selfie Cam, I'm not a big fan of selfies, but when I did take them with my kids, they were awful.
- Very slow updates
- The Korean Version has a locked bootloader without a way to unlock it.
- Lags sometimes just navigating the UI

Why I like the Mi Mix:
- Amazing design and build quality
- Very fast in day to day task (UFS 2.1)
- Good main camera (Good not great :p )
- Some dev support for custom ROMs
- Quick updates, especially if you use MIUI Beta/Dev ROMs
- Very Fast charging (almost at the same level of the OP5)

Why I DON'T like the Mi Mix:
- No headphone jack, it annoys me a lot when I have to charge the phone and I can't use my earphones when it's charging.
- MIUI still does not handle notification as well as Stock Android (One example: on the lock screen, the user cannot interact with them, like you can on most other Android skins or stock)
- Mine came with Chinese version of the MIUI, so it was a bit of a pain to get the bootloader unlocked, had to install a VPN to pretend I was in China, then request the permission, then wait 72h and finally plug in to a Windows PC, not Linux or MAC, Windows only and run Xiaomi unlock tool).
- I'm on the MOKEE Rom, but there are still bugs on AOSP based ROMs =(
- GCam port still not very stable

So, these are my Pros and Cons for these two devices, now you have to see if it's worth it for you, in my opinion, I'm happy with the Mi MIX 2, the design and unlocked bootloader with some Dev support, these are big pluses for me, so I'm ok for now with the Mi MIX 2, but I do miss that Quad-DAC and wide angle camera :p

Hope this helped, have a good one =)

Thanks for your detailed comparison.
It could not have done better as I can relate with you closely.
I have also locked boot loader and I have also normal sized hands.

I can understand most of the points but only one point surprised me from your comparison.

You have mentioned that G6 front camera as very poor but I am reading Mix 2 camera as such elsewhere.
Can you tell me how is Mix 2s front camera ?

Last but not least are you having a feeling in Mi Mix 2 as using a finished product?

Lack of updates is the only cons in LGG6 in my opinion.
But I think I cannot have a sense of feeling in using completed product.

Screen resolution also is considerably less in Mix2 and weight is also little more.

The Mi MIX 2 front camera is a bit better, not by much, but it's better.
The MIX 2 does feel like a complete product, IF you use the Official MIUI Global Rom, it's just the way MIUI handles notifications that puts me off using it, the Oreo beta of MIUI improved a bit, but from the lock screen, you can't still interact with the notifications and AOSP ROMs are fine for a daily use, some minor issues and camera quality declines a bit, still waiting on a stable GCam port.
The the screen is very good, in my opinion 1080p and 1440p in day to day use are the same, you can't see the difference, apart from the resolution difference between these two devices, there is not much difference, colour reproduction is pretty much the same and it can get very bright, great quality screen on the Mi MIX 2.
It is a bit heavy, on my journey home, on a 30min train ride, I have to swap hand half way, because it starts to feel a bit uncomfortable on the wrist.

How is the battery life ?
I heard that battery life is not as good as G6.
And i heard that front camera cannot be used easily in 3rd party camera and video chatting applications.
Have you tried using front camera in 3rd party applications ?

Battery seems to be the same for me, getting pretty much the same use as I was with the G6, so don't feel like an upgrade or downgrade here.
The only third party app I use is Skype and that app support 360 rotation, so no issues here, but from what I've heard, snapchat does not support it.

Please tell me how, I've tried a few different versions of GCAM and I can't get tap to focus to work. I'm now on Andy's Lineage OS.
It seems gcam is not fully working on AOSP based ROMs.
I'm on Xiaomi.eu 8.2.1, and it is fully stable, with portrait mode working both in rear and front camera.

Just tried this and still tap to focus does not work, tried a couple of GCAM and both are not working fully. What version of the GCAM are you using?
