How much you think apple paid for this verdict?

I'm happy they won, maybe now Samsung will actually design their UI to be less iOS like and it won't look like carp anymore. I can't stand Samsung's UI. Thankfully, CM came around to save the day. If there's one thing Apple knows how to do right though is make a product look good. And to everyone saying you wan then to fall on their face, remember without the iPhone, Android wouldn't be where it is today. Outside of iOS, there are no major competitors for it and without competition, you get stale products like the BlackBerry. I wish nothing but the best for Apple.

This is BS verdict for real. They brought in a jury that knew nothing about patents laws. The judge had to give them a crash course in it. Fishy business. So do this mean no galaxy s4. What's next apple going sue Google claiming Android os infringed on apple BS ios

Apple just give up the IPHONE sucks deal with it.
Why does the jury have to know anything about patent law to be a valid jury? They're not lawyers... in fact, their initial lack of knowledge on patents probably made them a less biased jury to begin with.

But I don't agree with the verdict at all.

The only people that will gain from this verdict will be Apple executives. The consumers and the entire mobile phone industry will get screwed over; innovation will be stifled, competitiveness eliminated, and prices gouged.

Technically they paid for the verdict after years of Apple advertising. Apple is ingrained in the public's minds like Kleenex and Windex. If you were to pick a jury from other countries, you'd get a very different verdict.

I also believe that while Samsung may have stolen some ideas, a billion dollar fine is flat out ridiculous.

Exactly what innovation will be prevented? if anything, it will be better. instead of Samsung trying to make their devices look like Apple's, they will have to think a little harder to come up with something of their own. HTC, Motorola, and LG could do it, Samsung can too.

Although it looks bad for now. Apple has more to fear from google..... they seem to be massing patents related to ai and augmented reality. ...news flash apple isn't really. Also IF GOOGLE is smart they will change to gyro, touch hybrid functions for soon zoom etc like Samsung brought out in the s2

Does anybody know exactly which patents Sammy infringed on. I know the app icons was in question does that mean that all Samsung needs to do is change their icons?

But I agree with the consensus
apple has stole way to many things and won to many lawsuits.

Apple reminds me of the Empire in Star Wars

This was all about the older samsung phones I think, I don't see it affecting our current or future galaxy devices.

I don't think you understand.

A lot of the patents didn't only apply to old devices, they applied to newer devices as well that just weren't listed. Especially these vague "design" patents that really shouldn't have been awarded in the first place.

Not only that, this deals a blow to Samsung, Android, and Google.

In terms of our current S3 and future devices, with 1 billion lost it could damage the company to where they may be slower updates in general, and now future devices will need a huge revamp in terms of design; the "nature" thing won't really cut it. I trust that Samsung can think of a much greater design either way, though.

As Samsung said, this hurts innovation and freedom of choice on the consumers side.

The only thing Samsung gained is that Apple fans are going to want to find out why Apple worked so hard to reach this injunction.

It's fine guys. Samsung will just have to innovate, while Apple just keeps releasing the same phone over and over again...no biggie. If you thought the GS3 was amazing just wait until next year. Watch.

I mean future innovations. Pinch to zoom, double tap to zoom, etc, etc, weren't invented by Apple (there's documentation of it years before Apple patented it), in fact I can't think of one thing Apple invented themselves. They simply patent everything. I'm sorry, but I don't think Apple should be able to sue other companies for making their phones rectangular.

This means anything that other companies don't patent fast enough will be patented by Apple, followed by Apple suing other companies for "stealing ideas."

THAT'S how innovation will be prevented, without going into any more unnecessary detail for lack of time/necessity.

And as far as I'm concerned, the GS3 looks absolutely nothing like the iPhone and the new Touchwiz interface isn't that similar to iOS (besides square apps). Obviously Samsung is perfectly capable of making unique devices and does.

The bottom line is Apple never should have been allowed most of those patents in the first place, and this ruling sets bad precedence for future cases and granting of patents.

innovation? i mean i understand what some are saying, but there is only so much you can do to a phone in terms of appearance.. thin, touch screen, ear piece, speaker, etc.. apple claims all Samsung phones and tablets should be removed from the market because they copied their "design".. how exactly do you make a phone without it looking similar to another? it's like they want to sue anyone that makes a touch screen phone..

i haven't seen all the samsung phones in person but the Galaxy S3 looks nothing like a crapphone.

Apple acts as if they invented the cell phone.. WAY before they even thought about making a iphone PDA and PPCs were around for many years.. they are the copiers.

Apple is a joke. They think they own every advancement in modern human development when it comes to smartphones. This is America. There is nothing wrong with taking someones idea and making it better. If someone builds a chair, they cant sue me for making a chair that has a cup holder. All this lawsuit stuff is just pathetic. I will never purchase another Apple Product in my LIFE. I cant stand the direction this company is taking. They finally have some stiff competition...so instead of doing some more innovating or expanding their phones hardware capabilities they go after Samsung in the form of 1 billion dollars? The jury obviously saw Apple as an "American" company, and saw Samsung as an overseas company. What they fail to realize is that Apple is the worse of ALL when it comes to foreign country sweat shops. This is war now. Samsung and Google really need to turn on the jets now. I hope this 1 Billion dollar lawsuit doesnt postpone the Jellbean update for our devices.

After this apple is going to attempt to purchase a carrier. Why you ask because
Carriers make good profits from android phones not I phones.
AT&T, Sprint,Verizon are not happy with their cash cow being attacked.
They will pick Sprint or T-Mobile to purchase. Or buy controlling interest.
I owned an iPhone 4s until yesterday sold it to a fanboy for $450.00
Using it to purchase new Sammy laptop.
Bye the way how come Apple isn't suing Sony for the notebook lookalikes or the others.
After this verdict Windows 8 laptops don't seem so bad. By apple sold the Macbook pro also . Free osx3 does everything I need in a non windows os.

Apple is just digging themselves deeper into a ****hole if they keep up the lawsuits.

Google is finally starting to combat Apple and trying to get their products blocked in the US. This is going to be very interested and I want to know how this goes.

I can tell you right off the bat that Apple could care less how much money it cost them to hurt Samsung. Apple has almost as much cash on hand as the federal government has. Steve Jobs was quoted saying that he would do everything he could to put an end to Android. The people who succeeded him are just as bad as he was. Winning $1 billion was nothing for the company. It was a message to other companies and to Google, to cease and desist. Samsung crossed some boundaries and Apple didn't like it, so they did all they could to hurt the company.

Samsung directly threatened Apple's success when news of Samsung's Galaxy S3's profits was surpassing that of the iPhone's. You know Apple is pissed and rather than actually making a better product, they'd rather spend money to push down Samsung.
