What a good news then! I just followed the steps here after updated so I thought the tutorial made it worked, but if it's enabled by the default it's great!
Yes, it's not about nougat , it's about what after the nougat update , there is 2 or 3 updates after nougat and the last one is the 28B (685MB) update that enables the hotspot, Verizon still did not add this update to it's site and what the update does.

That's why I thought I had last update at 27A because I couldnt see 28B on its site. I live in Asia and got the verizon version where no verizon network at all here so its website is all I rely on for the information.

How can I upgrade to either VS98728A or B? Currently I'm on VS98726B on a G5 on metro PCs and hotspot does not work for me. I checked the verizon website and no upgrade available. Also tried the upgrade option on my phone but i get an 'no connection' error message. Help please

From the looks of it you have to be on 28b or above and Verizon unlocked the hotspot option
I see now you are having update issues as well have you tried update while on WiFi
Currently I don't have internet service until the 28th when they'll come and install it at my new house hahah. Thanks for the dun tip at least now when hotspot does enable it'll hopefully be unlimited. I think I'm gonna have to go to the in-laws however and get this firmware updated lol

Also just depend on your data plan Hotspot also counts as your mobile's data ...So if you do not have an unlimited plan then no hotspot won't be unlimited

I do have unlimited :D the latest update for G5 on verizon website is VS9872BA is that correct? I thought latest was 98728B sorry for my noobie questions, I've just recently gotten into rooting/flashing my android (which is weird cause I've had androids for years now) and I love it, I learn fast but I'm still learning the terms and all that. Appreciate any input MadScientist ?

The 2Ba is the latest that I know of.I think thats the 10 of 2017 update...I have not updated to it yet..... Been thinkin bout it but its just a security update....
We all had to start some where...
And I try to help I I can plus this device has no soon chance of root or twrp hence this forum is basically dead. Except those newcomers to the Verizon G5 I actually just ordered another G3 just so I could root and rom again....
I came into both of my LG G5s on chance deals so I never even got to root either of them.....
I have been In Lg since the G2s release.... Feel free to ask any ?s you might have as to be better safe than sorry.:good::good::good:

Yeah, wish I woulda known that when I bought the device lol I actually had a G3 (been with LG ever since and convinced my girl to get the G6) and gave it to my mom when I copped this G5... But now I'm thinking of trading her back hahah.

I saw this link that sounds like they can root the g5 on nougat, are they lying or talking about a specific g5 only?
