Hello everyone. I'm currently running Android version 4. 4. 2. can you tell me if ad block plus works without root or not? If it does work without root can you please write correct and updated instructions since this thread is pages long and it goes back and forth and even different devices are mixed in.

Thanks

Works great on Z3 Compact, thank you.
If Lolipop enables SD card write capability I will even no longer need root :).

Great discovery!
Cheers.
Hi,
I have Z3c and I used adblock plus, but i have to disinstall it because of facebook... and some other problem of connection.

The problem that I have is that some app (facebook and gmail and others) works well for a small time (two minutes?) and then it not works ...
Facebook not download pictures, comments... not allow you to "like" or dislike somethings...
You have to disconnect from wifi and reconnect. After this it works for some minutes... and then, the problem come back.
Gmail seems to have the same problem... not download the email, if you disconnect/reconnect wifi ... it works well for a while... then the problem come back.

It seems a problem with "proxy" in adblock code (?)
You did not have this problem ?

Ad vanish is crap.
It works by stoppingg your data connection while using the app so ads can't come through.
Which means New notifications also get blocked.
Stupid.

Look up Adguard, been using it for a few days with great success. It uses VPN instead of APN and doesn't require root.
The free version only blocks browser ads which my browser blocks anyway.

Ad blocking when my cell provider requires me to configure Access Points on my phone

I've tried to get ad blocking working with ABP and Ad-Guard. But both apps work well when on WiFi but not at all via my cell data connection. I have a non-rooted Samsung Galaxy S4 running Chrome.
Please see the attached three screenshots. These are the settings on my phone that I must use for my cell provider.

When I am on my mobile data connection I get this when trying to access an HTTP webpage:
The request is not understood.
Technical description:
400 Bad Request - Check your spelling for the requested URL.
And this for an HTTPS page:
SSL connection error
Hide details
Unable to make a secure connection to the server. This may be a problem with the server, or it may be requiring a client authentication certificate that you don't have.
Error code: ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR

Is there a way to get either of these apps (or something else) to accommodate my phone's settings?

I've posted to both apps' forums, as well:

Thanks,
Eliezer

OK, I've updated my post to include for rooted device. My rooted S5 was Official before installing ABP, then became Custom after intalling ABP.

ABP has problems...

There are websites that this method breaks - one in particular thinks I've disabled cookies when I use this. Also, I couldn't share a video from the TED app to facebook until I disabled ABP. It also wasn't blocking ads in some aps eg File Manager HD.

I've had to uninstall it. I don't want to root my S4 (GT-I9507) as there are certain apps I want that won't work on a rooted device. :(

when rooted, I was running AdAway - a brilliant, easy solution, pity I can't use it un-rooted
