I've been rooted from day one (many years) using Adaway until this damn VZW S6 edge. It's unrootable at the moment.

Just installed Adguard, and it works perfectly. Blocking ads in browsers and also apps. It has a 30-day fully functional trial (make sure you walk through the tutorial -- the trial is at the end, and I couldn't find any way to access and activate it if I skipped the tutorial), so you can give it a test drive before forking over US ten bucks for a year license.

When my trial ends, if it's performed as it has so far, I'll be paying.

This is pretty good tutorial altough I don't recommend this method. It works but Adblock is known to be a heavy battery and data hog. I recommend using NoChromo, which is a Chrome with built in Adblocker. Give it a try, it's very efficient in terms of battery life and it works a lot faster than standard Chrome.

Well I don't want to root my device. I think the best option is to leave Chrome and go for Firefox with adblock plus add-on..
Maybe (and just maybe) if you wait a little more there will be some ad blocking support in Chrome. Its just a hunch, but Safari on iOS can block ads for a while now, so maybe Chrome will take the fight to them. I also hope it will pay to be lazy, since I also have a device I don't intend to root only for ad blocking support in Chrome.
(I know that there is an AdBlock app, but that has limitations without root, and Firefox has plugin support, but I need it in Chrome:) )

i tried both adguard and adblock plus simultaneously as i installed both at the same time but it did not block out ads in apps. works well for browser though.....

had followed adblock plus to change settings in wifi but not mobile as not too sure how to go about changing APN.....
so tested it while on wifi.....

really new to this as this is first time trying as the ads is really getting atrocious.....
kept using mobile data non-stop even when I am constantly on wifi....

using s4 shv-e330s and note 2 shv-e250s
if can work will try on s4 shv-e300L and Note 2 shv-e250L
all not rooted.

You can set up an ad filtering proxy and set your system proxy to that, dd-wrt(router firmware) for example has this feature.
