Great State of Virginia!
So from what you have stated, even with the unlock provided by Asus, I can root any ROM? Although NVflash seems pretty awesome, I don't think I'll go that route for this device. Would OTA Rootkeeper allow me to restore root access after upgrading to JB? Or would I need to perform some sort of root exploit procedure to regain root. Lastly if I want to manually perform the update would I just rename the file to EP201_768_SUPDATE.zip and put it on the root of my MicroSD? Thanks.
So I sort of answered my own question here. I updated using the EP201_768_SDUPDATE method on my SD. Unfortunately I lost root and my protected copy of root in OTA Rootkeeper is gone. I guess it is time to search out how to re-root my TF700. I'm hoping I can find that somewhere in this thread. Anyone know of any other threads? Thanks.

Do I understand you correctly: You are unlocked but you don't want to run a custom rom - you just want to root the tablet?
Leaving the question aside why you would not install a custom rom which makes this tablet so much better, there are several ways to go about it:
As _that already advised: Install a custom recovery and use it to root. TWRP will actually ask you if you want to root once you installed it. (And with a custom recovery you're just one tiny step away from running CROMi-X or CM)
If you don't want to install a recovery:
Up to firmware version 10.6.1.14.8 you can use Motochopper to root.
On firmware 10.6.1.14.10 you can use Kingo Android Root
Both tools have their threads here on XDA, just use the search function.

I figured it out. I used motochopper to root then I used Goo Manager to install TWRP. I do have a question as to installing ROM's. I run custom ROM's on all my stuff but this device is actually my parents and they are much lower tech than myself. I may still put one on there and see how they like it. Can I install Cyanogenmod using TWRP. I saw something that seemed to say CM did not like to play well with TWRP. I have also seen the CROMi-X you mentioned. Which is a better choice for this tablet? I appreciate the advice. Thanks.

Are you sure you have TWRP installed? Did you boot into it?
GooManager stopped supporting flashing recoveries in December or so. Unfortunately you do not get any error message. It seem s to have flashed fine, but actually it did nothing.
If you are looking for a custom rom "that just works" for low tech users, I would go for CROMi-X. It's based on the stock rom so it's look and feel is very similar to stock plus all the hardware drivers are Asus. CM has some issues with some keyboard functions for example and in general: It's a generic rom not really developed for this device - just adapted to it.

You can use most versions of TWRP with CM. Only for CM11 you need a CWM recovery. But even for CM10.2 or similar - it always depends which version of TWRP you are talking about. TWRP 2.6.1 or 2.6.3.1 should be ok for most recent CM versions (again: not KitKat CM11) and incidentally also work fine with CROMi-X 5.4.

Absolutely installed. I booted to it and performed a backup. I used Goo Manager to install TWRP and then used it to boot to recovery. I believe it installed TWRP 2.6.3.1 but I'm not sure. I am at my house and I don't have the tablet right now. What other ROM's are good? Is CROMi-X the best? I have read that a lot of folks seem to be using it.

Fed up

Okay so first let me explain that the only kind of rooting I have done is with Samsung. This is my first other device other than Samsung.
Now this Asus Tablet is stuck in boot loop. I have tried booting into recovery and I get the icons but I can not navigate between the icons. The screen flashes and the same screen comes up after that it looks as if it is going into download mode but instead has the Android laying down with his chest open and a triangle with a ! Okay so if this was a Samsung I would just go to Odin and put the stock firmware back on the device but since it is not I have no clue what to do here....any help?

What you see is perfectly normal: the stock recovery and since it doesn't find a valid Asus firmware file to flash it reports failure.
To navigate between the three icons you push Volume Down. Use Volume Up to execute the flashing icon.
BUT!!! What you do from here depends very much on what you did to get yourself into this situation.
The procedure to reflash the stock firmware is described in the OP of this thread under : Factory Restore after a soft brick.....
Just ignore the firmware versions (they are way old) and replace them with the latest 10.6.1.14.10 firmware. The method still works.

That is kinda going to be up to you. What I like and consider good you might think is irrelevant.

The best way to go is to try out a few of them and see which you like the best and stick to it. cROMi-X is pretty much stock ASUS with tweaks, but the installer allows you to leave off the cruft - think crapware remover for store bought Windows-based PCs. You can make it as stock or as lean as you'd like.

I've gone from installing almost no ASUS proprietary apps to (today) installing them all, just to see what my tablet used to look like when I bought it.

There is a pretty sweet theming mod for it as well, so you can play to your hearts content. Also, @sbdags compiles both and ODEX and a DEODEXED version (Google it for more info) so you can manually customize if you'd like as well.

Universal Naked Drivers: Can't install APX for TF700. But why??

I am facing trouble (almost going crazy) trying to install Universal Naked Drivers for TF700. I need them to run APX on my PC (running Windows Vista). Tried to install versions 0.72 and 0.73, but none had drivers that work with TF700 (right now I tried again: the TF700 shows that black screen of APX mode and the computer...well, nothing here).

As far as I can figure out, I am doing all as advised: skipping the auto install things that Vista prompts, going to the Windows Device Manager and installing the driver manually from there.

However it has resulted in...nothing. Or a message of "driver not found", or a driver installed, but not responding.

Tried to install what appears as Asus Transformer APX Interface: simply doesn't work.:crying: Same goes for Prime drivers.

As I read around here, there was a patched version that allowed the drivers to be installed with compatibility to TF700. But I searched to find that version: no success, it seems removed from everywhere.

So, how to install that drivers? Are they the same of Prime or TF101 with other VID and PID numbers? If so, is just to change these numbers at the android_apxusb.inf file? (in time: tried also that and resulted in nothing again. Windows said there was no driver again).

People that managed to install APX for TF700T, how tid you got that? To me, seems totally impossible (tried during days, used the Carnaval holiday to insist in this...had nothing as result).

EDIT: I DID IT!! APX DRIVER IS INSTALLED! AND I CAN RUN NVFLASH!!! :victory:

So, people, don't give up on your TF700 yet, there's a way! Now is 04:20 A.M, and my body hurts from head to toe, so I'll take a fine nap until morning. But later I'll post what I did to the other desperate ones (like I was) that cannot run APX drivers to use NVFlash to unbrick their tablets.

I think this can help people. But, a warning: I am no expert at all. I am just a cat-crazy lady that happens to have a TF700 to help in her job of text revision. I'll put what I did, but can't assure that will work for everbody.

So, good night, tomorrow I'll explain how I got there :)

I wish you the best of luck. I recently borked my TF700 during the CM10 to CM11 upgrade and was looking at APX as being my only hope. I went through the same hoops and flips with no luck - no one on XDA had any suggestions regarding APX drivers.

I ended up just listing my TF700 on eBay as "bricked" and using the few $$ it fetched towards a new Samsung 8.4 pro.

So is a serious problem! And what intrigues me the most is that people around here seems to be running APX, as many have done all the thing of install NVFlash to JB Android. Is exactly to run NVFlash that I need APX working: my tablet is not bricked, but I really don't want to play on the risky side.

Is crazy...I think somebody have these drivers, if not at Mobi team site (that seems to be author of the patched version), somewhere else. Even if I have to run them under Linux (I don't have a Linux machine, but this can be arranged if necessary), is something to consider if means a way to prevent or fix a possible brick.

Please, somebody knows how to install APX in Windows for TF700?? I don't want to stay at that horrible Asus official rom, but I am really afraid to flash a custom one and end up with an US$ 1100 priced brick.

This has been so frustrating, been clean wiping and reinstalling for so long and every time it froze up and crashed on me, now i can't even get passed the spinning symbol; any ideas what to do?

Using the latest files: recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.7-tf700t / cm-11-20140314-NIGHTLY-tf700t / gapps-kk-20140105-signed

Thanks for helping out!
Can you still get into your bootloader? Do you know the latest Asus firmware version? At what state is it freezing? An Asus logo with a spinning circle? I think I know what is going on but I still want to be sure, thanks...

Yea I can still get in to boot loader; it gets stuck after I reboot normally - spinning circle referring to the cyonogenmod logo with the arrow gong around. I left it to see how long it would go and after an hour I just went to boot loader and powered it off

When you boot into your bootloader, can you tell the firmware version starts with 10.6.1.14.x on the upper left corner? You need a newer bootloader version to run Kitkat.

It says 10.4.4.23; once I update it should work fine?
You may want to update to the latest stock Asus firmware version 10.6.1.14.10. Please try to update your latest Asus firmware before trying the CM11 again to prevent bricking your device... Download the latest firmware from Asus website with the SKU for your device and use your cwm recovery to install the Asus firmware. Please do not use the "Wipe" in your bootloader menu. It may brick your device. You should be good to go after you update your bootloader.... Good luck...:fingers-crossed:
