Try saving the sbf file to C:\ or my documents, and also rename it to something simple, eg. defy.sbfim having difficulty's ummm help?

I never could get the phone to appear with RSDLite on Windows 7 64bit or Windows XP, so I had to flash the firmware to the phone in Linux using SBF_Flash.x. I found SBF_Flash.x on a post from a German Defy forum shown on the attached link. SBF Flash worked instantly without any hassle compared to RSDLite. I am attaching the SBF_Flash.x.zip to this post, so you can list it as alternative to RSD Lite.Once the driver installation has finished you should see the phone appear at the bottom of the RSDLite program window under `port 1` - Once this is there you are ready to flash the firmware. NB: I had issues getting it to show a number of times. Uninstalling RSDLite/Drivers, rebooting PC, and then reinstalling these resolved this issue.
Mate knock up a guide for Linux on the same lines as mine for windows and I will add it to the OP and credit you for doing of courseI never could get the phone to appear with RSDLite on Windows 7 64bit or Windows XP, so I had to flash the firmware to the phone in Linux using SBF_Flash.x. Yes they are from motorolaHello,
I am strongly considering getting a Defy and have just come across this thread. Am I correct in my assumption that the links to the roms posted, are roms directly from Motorola? Again am I correct in my assumption that they are also development roms, and not the final releases?
Also do these bring all of the features of 2.2. Froyo? E.g. Wifi tethering etc. I know full flash support is unsupported on the phone due to hardware limitations and so flash lite is the only option.
If I were to get a Defy and undertake the procedure, is it possible for me to return to the complete factory settings and status of the phone e.g. returning to the rom that was originally shipped on the device? I will be purchasing and using the phone within the UK.
Thanks in advance,
Michlaustn.
If its from buymobilephones.net, my experience is that it will be branded on t-mobile. The branding is minimal (mine was direct from t-mobile - you should check their website out as I got a cracking deal on mine) mine had no branding on the case.Ah sorry mate. Completely misunderstood the 2.21 etc in the file names. Just noticed on the left of them they all say 2.1 (im an idiot). I am getting the phone on contract, but not directly from the network. Probably from affordablemobiles or buymobilephones dot net. So I am not sure if they will be branded or not. I am suspecting branded as I shall be going on T-mobile.
What do the roms bring exactly to the phone, is it purely just debranding and getting rid of the junk t-mobile etc place on?
The flash support is a pleasant surprise I thought it required a 1ghz cpu for it.
Thanks for the response.

Oh and watch the data plans - you only get the true unlimited full speed from tmobile when you buy an android phone direct from them, as all you are getting is an unlimited internet booster from 3rd party suppliers - this is a key point and lots of people have been moaning about it.If its from buymobilephones.net, my experience is that it will be branded on t-mobile. Thank for the information mate. To be honest I had no idea that there was difference between the reseller packages and ones direct from T-mobile. I was under the assumption they were all restricted to 1gb and 3g speeds.Oh and watch the data plans - you only get the true unlimited full speed from tmobile when you buy an android phone direct from them, as all you are getting is an unlimited internet booster from 3rd party suppliers - this is a key point and lots of people have been moaning about it.
I got unlimited internet (3gb) 100 mins unlimited texts for £10 per month £100 for phone 24 month contract
1gb and 3gb is the amount of data you can use per month. Speeds depend on lots of factors that I wont go into. You may or may not be aware that tmobile and orange are now the same company (everyone everywhere) so you can use both networks signals, more good news is that Ofcom have just allowed mobile operators to use 2g frequencies to provide high speed mobile data so soon even if you are in a 2g only area you will get high speed internet access, this basically means that anywhere you can get a mobile signal you will be able to get decnt mobile speeds.Thank for the information mate. T-mobile are offering a nice package as 20.42 a month and so is the 15.32 so I believe I will go for one of these direct from T-mobile. I live in a pretty poor signal area, so I dont know how much of the increased speed I would benefit from.
I believe I will be going for the Defy. It will make a worthy upgrade of my Pulse.
Thanks for your help Higgsy, its much appreciated.
i have a feeling the errors you get related to the version of rsd lite you are using - it is to old, hence "Device S Flash OMAP3630 is not supported", you need to try and get to to work with 4.7 onwards. 4.9 was the only one that would work for me.Can some one please help? I'll be as quick as I can.
I have a defy
Bootloader 09.10
Using RSDLite 4.1 as its the only version that see's my phone. I have tried
4.6
4.4.1
4.9
I am putting the SBF file in root c:

I have tried 2 UK SBF's from the initial page
I have tried the french and central european + a couple more I could find incase carphonewarehouse got their stock from somewhere other than UK.
Anyone help me? You can probably tell I've had enough by now. If anyone can save me you guys can.
Also I forgot to say, if you uninstall the drivers, and rsd lite, reboot, then use a program called usbdeview (free just google it, helped me out a few times) to delete all usb devices that related to the defy, then reboot again. now install the driver package, then rsd lite and reboot again. Put the phone into bootloader then connect to the PC - it should then install driver, then once the driver has installed and only then open rsd lite. Thanks mate i'll give it a go tomorrow and let you know. I can't face anymore! Lol
