Could you uninstall the stock launcher (huawei home launcher) using this method? I read somewhere that doing this brings back the old recent apps cards.

Is there a way of doing something like pm disable instead, so you can restore it easily if there's a problem?

Edit: whatever. Works for the Honor Play emui 9 too. It was doing my head in!

pm disable-user --user 0 com.android.apps.tag
* TO UNDO: pm enable --user 0 <Package Name>
Damn! You the man!!! This now allows me to safely disable and reinstate anything, so I don't have to do a factory reset or wait for an update!!!

I searched literally everywhere and kept bumping into articles telling me I needed root, or giving me the wrong syntax (or syntax that only worked with root, or earlier versions of android). Anyway, can't thank you enough!! I might make a post listing this command and everything I've manage do safely disable. You'll totally get an honourable mention though!

Exactly.
For instance, I had disabled Huawei Launcher as I use Nova, and like the old style app switcher interface. But, without Huawei Launcher enabled, I noticed I get no numbered badges on messaging apps, and also I lost the option to Ultra Battery Saver. So I re-enabled the Launcher easily.

Since you use an alternative launcher as well, I've got a quick Q. Is it possible to somehow use the screen lock widget in an alternative launcher? I've tried my usual methods and because they use the device administrator method to lock, you can't use fingerprint to unlock after locking. You have to use pin, which is really annoying. The widget from the huawei launcher doesn't suffer from this. I've tried about 5 different apps from the play store, but all use the device admin method.

I wonder if there is a way to extract the command or software that actually runs when we tap this widget. Even though we have selected a different launcher, I'm sure the Huawei one is still in the background somewhere. It sounds like it should be possible, even if it's really convoluted, like activating the huawei launcher, locking, then bringing back the original launcher if that is the only way.

Mines fine, i use the gestures option in nova launcher. Double tap to lock screen and i use fingerprint scanner still to unlock the phone.

From what I understand, in basic words, up until recently if a third party dev wanted to implement lock screen in their software, they had access only to a basic mode. And using that basic mode the user cannot unlock using fingerprint.
But now on newer versions of Android, third party devs can use the "better" soft-lock-screen method that does not disable fingerprint unlock.
So, some updated or newer widgets (and etc) are starting to use this method.
On my case I use an app called Swiftly Switch for gestures navigation and have one of the gestures mapped to a "Nova Action". When setting aNova Action there are lots of options, one of them is "Lock Screen". When you select that, you get asked (by Nova I think, not by Swiftly Switch) which method you want to use to lock the screen (the old one or the new one with fingerprint support).
