So lemme get that straight before I get the phone. Its basically the same method as the epic on gb? Flash cwm, don't allow reboot, flash the root.zip to install SU and remove the stock recovery patch file?

Mostly.

However, the EpicCMTeam's Root-from-Recovery-v4-ZIP automatically removes the 'stock patch script' that would otherwise prevent CWMv4 from sticking when you reboot, as evidenced from some of the posts on this thread.

.........as a device the SGSIII is physically a bit different from the og Epic:

[HOW TO BOOT RECOVERY / DOWNLOAD MODE]
the 3-finger-reboot to Recovery has changed > now it's: Power OFF your device...next press Power ON, then immediately Vol UP, Home, Power buttons, continue to hold down buttons for about 4-6 seconds + RELEASE when the 'blue strip' appears at top left corner of screen, your CWMv5.5.0.4 Recovery appears on screen;
+
Download Mode > is now: Power OFF your device...next press Power ON, then immediately Vol DOWN, Home, & Power buttons AND release buttons as soon as you get a warning screen, NEXT you press UP on the volume button, you'll now be in DownloadMode.

USB Mass Storage has been replaced by MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) so it's not uncommon for ODIN users to be seeking to get some type of USB Mass Storage notifications along the way from the PC when there typically won't be any.......................here's a link to how some users are dealing w/ this:

Root .zip -v4 is failing to obtain root after an OTA if the user had installed the other Superuser zip not made by Team Epic as it has a conflicting su binary. We are issuing Root .zip -v5 to fix this issue within the next day or so.

Meanwhile do this to workaround the problem:
  1. Un-root from Recovery.
  2. Root from Recovery.
  3. Then Clear data on the Superuser app.

These steps will be done automatically by Root .zip -v5.

Can someone just confirm the steps that u want to take to accept the OTA Manually.
Flash the stock recovery from odin, boot into the phone and accept the OTA. Though, I did flash feeezas odexed rooted lf9 update. But I'm not sure if it worked or updated me.
Flash cwm from odin and reroot the same way I did before.

Would that work?

Original Stock ROM is L710VPEN........after you run the update you should see L710VPLF9 as your build in about phone in settings.

Proper root-zip is version 4 for now til v5 is issued (but you should be going w/ wtogami instructions for best results.)

When you run ODIN, select 'PDA' slot ONLY (do not select Auto-reboot)....when ODIN completes CWMv4 install cycle w/ green 'complete' light at upper left, go ahead + remove cable from device, then remove + replace battery......boot to CWM recovery, then flash TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v4.zip file stored on your device............boot to system.

Thereafter, your superuser allows CWMv4 to stick, you're good to go.
How to I add the root zipfile to the memory card before rooting? My computer is not recognizing my phone as a flash drive

I'm Rooted!

Finally got my GS3 rooted. Many thanks to you guys and and TeamEpic. that had to be the easiest root I've ever done

I had some one create me a custom boot image for my EVo3D. Any way that would work on the GS3?

You can download the zip directly to your phone's memory so long as you're browsing the EpicCMTeam's blog w/ your device............the CWMv4 Tar you'll need to link your device to the pc in order to use ODIN.

Be sure to use a Blackberry microUSB cable, it'll make life easier for you ;)

Hi guys,

I successfully loaded CWM but when I try to install Team Epic Root from Recovery I get an error that says "e-signature verification failed". Anyone know what that's about or what I can do to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Edit: Gah, nevermind. I went back a couple of pages and upon further examination it turns out I'm still in Android System Recovery.

I'm not sure why though, Odin said that the installation was successful.......

Edit 2: Got it, thanks Zander!!!

Don't allow it to reboot. If after odining CWM you go to the stock rom, the system will flash the stock recovery again.

Flash CWM using ODIN, and first thing go to recovery and flash the root zip. This will remove the files that flash the stock recovery, and give you super user.
