okay good

I'm glad we're discussing Odin. I'm having similar issues. I have the .tar file, I have Odin 1.82 and I followed the instructions and downloaded the drivers. I put the phone into the developer mode and plugged in with the usb cable and opened Odin, plugged the .tar file and its says

"all threads completed. (succeed 0/failed 0)."

Figured it might be the drivers, re-installed. didn't work. thought it might be usb debug. Also didn't change the result. Ran as admin, redownloaded the .tar file. Same result every time. Even jumped to super one click and it doesn't work.

It seems like the programs aren't recognizing the phone though. Should I uninstall and reinstall kies even though it says it downloaded the drivers?

Thanks

K. My bad I misspoke. I'm still new to this. Download mode/developer mode whichever it is when u press the volume buttons and plug it in. It gives me the prompt and I press up on the volume and it puts me in whatever mode that is. I'm stuck there with Odin.

wasnt shouting.

if you want to learn how to do this stuff, learn the lingo. Developer mode doesnt exist on this phone, but to me that would refer to someone talking about enabling USB DEBUGGING mode in /settings/applications/development.....

DOWNLOAD mode is the mode you want to be in for ODIN to work

make sure you run ODIN as admin on windows vista/7

I appreciate the help. I did run Odin as admin. Is Odin supposed to populate when you plug the phone in? cuz its not and i seem to remember it doing that when i rooted the vibrant, it's been awhile however and i'm not too sure.

I'm going to also try and uninstall kies and reinstall it again.

Once you plug in the phone and all the drivers are installed and the phone is fully "linked" with the computer, Odin should automatically recognize it and show it as a COM port. If that isn't happening, then you probably don't have all the necessary drivers installed.

That's what I was figuring. Uninstalling Kies and the samsung drivers now and going to re-install here in a moment. I thought it was odd that nothing was populating. Thanks

For my first time EVER using an android device and rooting it, it was surprisingly painless. Big time thanks to the OP.

With that being said I have reached one problem at the very end.

When I reach step 4 (pasted below), I launch Kies and plug in my i777. Under Firmware it states "This version of the device cannot be updated." What do I do next?

4. Android drivers for your phone install using Kies.
