SOC didnt like my phone at all. Even after loading the correct drivers from Kies, running as Administrator, unplugging/uncheck/recheck/plugin during #6.

I dont care about CMW, I just wanted root.

Did you go through the Root Instruction in the first page of this thread? It worked for me.

My next mission it to get a new boot screen and boot animation. This AT&T animation is garbage.

Battery only charging to 86%

Thanks for the root advice for noobs went super well and was very fast. The only problem that i have is my battery levels max out at 86 percent, even if i charge all night. This occured after root anyone have any ideas on how to fix?

Either you have a hardware failure, or you need to wipe battery stats in CWM.

Use CurrentWidget to look at absolute battery voltage near the end of the charge cycle - it should be hitting 4.15 volts or above at the end (but not over 4.20).

Worked exactly as stated in post#1 for me. I have read that the jig I bought when I had my Captivate will reset the counter and remove the exclamation point but not sure of the steps?
Just power down your SGS II, plug in the jig and it should automatically boot you into download mode. You should see a prompt screen stating "Erasing download information succeeded". Remove jig, reboot. Viola… Reset Counter and No Yellow Wakness!

Running root for a few hours now as well, no troubles... just wondering any current info on stable Roms...

Cognition or Cyanogen preference anyone?
Haven't tried Cognition, but I'm running the last test build of CM7 right now with no issues. Tonight, I'll be flashing the stable build that was put up earlier this morning. here's where to get them http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=stable&device=galaxys2att
There's a thread in the development section, started by atinm that should get you going.

Hmm not sure, here is a set of a little more detailed instruction, compare these to what you did. Maybe you missed something. Hope it helps.

------------------------------------------------------------
THIS WORKED ON MY AT&T SGS2, I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY IF IT BRICKS YOUR PHONE!!!!

Preparation
- Download ODIN installer, install.
- Download kernel, Don't extract this file
- Download and extract SuperOneClick
- Download Samsung’s KIES 2.0. installer, install. This will install the correct USB drivers, this insures programs can communicate with the device. Make sure to reboot computer
after installation.

Process
1: Make sure that your device has USB debugging mode set, on your device go to: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging.
2: Reboot your device into download mode.
To do so: Turn the device off, then power it on again by pressing and holding down "Volume Down" & "Volume Up" & "Power" simultaneously.
3: Launch ODIN.
4: Connect the device to your computer using USB.
5: Wait a few seconds, the ODIN screen will show that a device is now connected
- Make sure that in ODIN nothing is checked, except for "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" checkboxes.
- Press the "PDA" button, search and select the "Kernel" file.
- Press "Start". ODIN will now flash the kernel, and the device should reboot.
-If it gets stuck, unplug and replug your USB
6: Wait until the device is rebooted
- While still being connected over USB, start SuperOneClick
- And press ROOT.
7: Reboot the device.
8: You should now have a rooted SG2

I'll give it a try. I really appreciate the time you took to help me. I personally think it's cause kies didn't install correctly but we'll see!! I'll hit you back with results soon.. Thanx

THIS WORKED ON MY AT&T SGS2, HOWEVER, I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY IF IT BRICKS YOUR PHONE.

What is needed:
1. Download kernel from codeworkx here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1285823

2. Download SuperOneClick v 2.1.1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=674200&d=1312258565

3. Odin 1.82 (Search Forums)

4. Android drivers for your phone install using Kies.
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c.../20110512115717796/Kies_2.0.3.11082_152_4.exe

Now we are going to flash the Kernel(might be a few mapping issues, but I havent noticed any yet)

1. Power off device.
2. Hold down both vol down+vol up and plug in usb cable
3. Hit volume up and accept warning
4. Open odin
5. Choose the kernel you just downloaded and load into PDA.
6. Click start and let it run completely and boot up.
7. With phone booted make sure you have usb debugging checked and plug your phone back in.
8. Open Super One Click and click root.
**It will hang up at #6 of Super One Click when it does this unplug your phone go into settings uncheck and check usb debugging again then plug back in. At this point it will continue with the root. It will send a test to your phone and you may or may not have to click allow for Superuser.**

*Try this if SuperOneClick fails. I have not tried this method. It was originally posted by Paulyyhoffman here . If it works for you please let me know. **

Alternate Root Method with Clockwork Mod

Download file here and flash in CWM.

Thanks Jivy26.
Your thread is very helpful!
I just got my ATT Galaxy s2 another day.
Downloaded all the documents you listed and followed your instruction.
Everything was fine except #6.
I stuck at step#6 several times after I plug back in with:
Protocol Fault(no status)
Finally, I followed another thread at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011355
and I openned task manager and ended up "adb.exe"
Amazing! it was rooted.

Wish my experience are useful for someone.

One more thing:
It is my first time to use Adroid cell. Do you have any recommandation on app to share my ATT's wireless to my laptop? Just like IPhone's MyWi.

Thanks again.
