Thanks entropy for answering my question. As I understand your answer, if I flash the J1 stock kernal back, I lose the root (as I did to get my wifi back). Or do we have J1 stock kernel with root. (sorry because this is the 1st time I mess with Android and maybe I dont use the right term)

If you used my kernel, root will stay after flashing back to J1 stock.

If you used codeworkx's CWM kernel, you need to SuperOneClick or flash an su package in CWM for root to stick.

No luck with 1-Click / Root

Coming from the Epic Touch 4G (which i had nicely setup with no hangups), I have had no sucess rooting my phone using 1 Click etc. All i have at the moment to show is the boot triangle (from flashing a "prerooted kernel") no superuser permissions. Is there something in terminal? What am i missing here fellas?

this process WORK in T989 from tmobile wiht android 2.3.5?
NO.

And don't bother to ask any more questions about the T939 in the I777 forums. COMPLETELY different devices. The only thing they have in common is a sAMOLED screen and the name "Galaxy S II" - internally, the T-Mobile GS2 is more like an HTC than a Samsung.

Thanks a ton for this thread! I just bought a new GS2 a few days ago. It's my first android device (coming from an iPhone 4) and I just had to root it after researching various ROMs. I did everything right the first time, quickly and easily, thanks to threads like this one.

Just wanted to say the process is painless and much easier than I thought it would be. Just different programs and process than my old android phone.

Thanks a bunch.

does anyone know why I'm stuck in clockwork mod after rooting through one click? everything was fine. I went to rom manager to flash clockwork mod it rebooted into clockwork now I cant get out of clockwork. The up and down arrow work but the right button on the side instead of enter it just goes to a screen that shows a picture of rom manager? I cant get out no matter how many times I reboot

I've got the same problem as greddy1. Can't get out of the cwm screen. Have to put it back in download mode and reload the kernel again via heimdall.

I was able to root my phonewith no problem, however I really dont like that I had to flash a kernel. My phone is brand new and I dont have an issue with flashing kernels and custom roms on my phone once I am wanting to do that. But, Id like to know is there a way to be 100% stock rom and be rooted?

@thesilentnight: You can purchase a Jig and use it to put the phone into download mode. That will clear the warning. You'll find references to it all over the forum, maybe even earlier in this thread. Also flashing a stock kernel using Odin will clear the warning.

@greddy1 and ghstridr: It's probably you are used to the old button combinations. On this ClockworkMod Recovery, use the home button for enter instead of the power button. The power button will take you to the previous screen, or in some cases a warning screen.

@ highaltitude: go to this thread in the development section and download the Kernel + Rooted system package and flash that using Odin3 v1.85. That will be bone stock but with root access.

where to find kernel?

"1. Download kernel from codeworkx here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1285823"

I went to this page, but couldn't see where the kernel I need to download is.

Please advise.

Thanks.
