You understand it correctly. I use Entropy's latest experimental kernel, but UnNamed ROM uses the latest regular kernel. So if I were doing this, after step 4 I would adb the experimental kernel again.

My understanding is that flashing a kernel with odin or heimdall will increment the flash counter. Anything flashed with adb, terminal, or ClockworkMod Recovery will not. Entropy says you can even flash a system image with odin or heimdall, and as long as you are not flashing a kernel at the same time, it will not increment the flash counter.

jivy26, I registered for the sole purpose to tell you "Thank You." I have had my SGSII for about a-week-and-a-half now and just rooted it today.

Very precise instructions--I had no issues at all.
I didn't even get the hang the requires the unplug, un-check, re-check, re-plug!
Can I ask which method you used?

After rooting per instruction, I have the yellow triangle everyone speaks of. Is there a way to get rid of that is current? The one posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193091 is dated 30 July...

Also...best ROM so far?

Thank you
Are you on AT&T GS II or i9100? The tutorial you posted is for i9100, and does not apply to AT&T phone.

If on AT&T:

For instructions, see links in my signature.

As far as best rom goes, there aren't a lot of choices yet, but most of them are pretty good. It's mostly a matter of personal preference. Read the various threads in the development forum.

The very best custom rom which is currently available for our phones is
GTG's UnNamed Rom v1.0.4, it is the most error free and most reliable
custom rom you will find here in these XDA forums.
Here is the direct download link: update-unnamed-v1.0.4-full.zip

Here is the easiest and fastest way to get rid of the Yellow Triangle.
Download this STOCK SGS2 i777 kernel and flash it using ODIN.
Here is the link for the stock kernel: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22081056/StockKernel-PDA.tar

After flashing the stock kernel the phone will need to be re-rooted.
Before you can re-root again you need to download and flash this
CWM recovery kernel which can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/3usgr25

This CWM recovery kernel is also a TAR file like the STOCK kernel so it needs
to be flash using Odin. Once this is done you will be able to root the phone again.

Once its rooted you will be able to flash any custom roms you want as long
as they are 100% compatible with our phones.

Since you have already rooted your phone you already know how.

Follow the easy step by step instructions to a "TEE" when flashing GTG's
custom rom for the best error free results.

The step by step instructions can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299474

Good Luck!

(Notice: all the opinions I have expressed here in this post are only my own. :)

Common sense question alert:

So to get UnNamed flawlessly on my S2, I first follow the perfectly detailed jivy26 directions, then jump over to UnNamed forum and follow those directions, right?.....

Thanks in advance!

Yup, once you've followed the directions in the OP just follow the installation instructions for UnNamed and you're good to go.

JIGS...ROMS

Hello and thank you to all who write here...is fascinating indeed.

With regard to resetting the counter, wouldn't it just be easiest just to buy the JIG? It appears its only $8 online...I am not sure of any other place to buy it...post if you know.

Also, I tried UnNamed 1.0.4 and Serendipity 8 last night (obviously tried both for a bit) and found that UnNamed still contains alot of the bloatware AT&T inlcudes on the original ROM...Serendipity 8 is very clean yet bland. Any other noted advantages/disadvantages to either?

Thanks...

@moonlightme: Considering that once you added UnNamed and/or Serendipity 8 can't you simply remove (by way of: Titanium Backup or something similar) AT&T's crapware since you're rooted?...

Yes of course; I would just think (personal preference) that the bloatware would be removed from a ROM someone spent the time compiling.

the dev doesnt think its bloatware....and personally, neither do i. i find value in the samsung apps, but have absolutely no use for ATT apps

a rom is put together by what the rom builder wants, not necessarily what YOU want, because what YOU want is not what I want....sometimes people putting roms together will take ideas into consideration.....but dont expect the rom to be modeled after what YOU want unless YOU make it.....

Hey guys I think I ran into some weird problem, below is what I get whenever I try to download Kies:

Kies install error pop-up:

Program: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application’s support team for more information.

Then an ERROR window pops up:

Nktwab.dll COM Registration error

Has anymore else received anything like this, or is this just my bad luck?...

P.S.

Under Device Manager>USB controllers- Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device- is not on the list!!!

Help me XDA Forums you all are my last hope!!

Just so you know, I donate to those I use roms from. Having bloatware removed from a rom, like I said, is a personal preference; I don't expect the rom builder to create based on that. But perhaps I don't understand the true definition of "bloatware". With a stock AT&T SGS2, what would you consider bloatware? What would you keep?

anything put on there by AT&T would be what I consider bloatware. Samsung apps/widgets are somewhat useful for me, and are what Samsung provides in their roms.

i consider bloatware to be anything added to the OS that was NOT provided by the Manufacturer that compiled the OS.
