although rooting this phone for someone who is familiar with Odin is easy....and all users should get familiar with it...but if all you are looking for is ROOT and do not intend to flash custom firmwares then ZergRush root has got to be the easiest method hands down. There is also a unroot.

I think that the method 2a in ferrous how to flash custom binaries thread is the easiest, however if you just want rooted stock, I along with everyone else on unnamed strongly suggest trying it out. Unnamed is just like stock except better and with more features.I never would have thought I would have flashed a custom ROM bit I am so glad I did and much thanks too gtg

CWM Wont Let Me Install Roms or Flash ANYTHING :(

The problem started when after I flashed the recovery with Odin. When I booted into the recovery and tried to install the superuser zip file I keep getting this message: "E:cant copy META-INF/google/android/update-binary". I get this message when I try to flash a Rom: "E:Can't open /sdcard/update-unamed-1.3.1-full.zip". I've been trying to flash the CM7 nightlies and the "Unamed" Rom. Any help with this will be much appreciated.

Also, I ended up having to install superuser via SuperOneClick

If you posted this here on purpose it probably ain't the best place....having said that....did you Odin back to stock? If you did you don't have Clockwork recovery installed....can't install roms from stock recovery my friend.

Edit alright see you got root...did you install clockwork?

Yes, Odin installed clockwork without issue. The problem is when I try to flash something within clockwork be it a Rom or the su.zip. When I saw that I couldnt flash su in CWM I decided to try to use SuperOneClick to install su and it worked without issue. However the problem with CWM still remains and I cant figure what may've went wrong.

P.S.: Thank you for speedy reply!

No, you need to install a custom kernel containing ClockworkMod Recovery.

Read this thread, specifically post #4.

Please Help....Urgent

Hi,
I just received my ATT card, and I dont have an SD card.
I did the below
1. Power off device.
2. Hold down both vol down+vol up and plug in usb cable
3. Hit volume up and accept warning
4. Open odin
5. Choose the kernel you just downloaded and load into PDA.
6. Click start and let it run completely and boot up.
7. Completely power down your phone.
8. Hold vol up and vol down button and then hold down power button as well until you see the boot screen then release all three buttons. It will take a few, but you will boot into Clockwork Mod, you will know your in CWM because there will be a black background with blue text.
(To navigate CWM Vol Up moves cursor up and Vol Down moves cursor down. Home button selects and back button goes to previous menu.)
***********
9. Scroll down and select "install zip from sdcard" then select "choose zip from sdcard".
I CANNOT SEE the "Yes - su-3.0-efgh-signed.zip". .. How does this get loaded..

PLEASE HELP... I can come on screen share or call someone (willing to help) within the states.. am in Michigan

Assuming you have transferred the file to the root of your sdcard successfully. The files will be at the end of the list, below the directories, and the list will be long enough that the files will be off the screen. So, use the vol up button to scroll up until it cycles to the bottom of the list, and makes the files visible.

This was not mentioned in the steps. So after step 6 I kinda panciked. Then I downloaded superoneclick and ran that, it rooted. After which I downloaded the unlock app from the market. and Viola it worked..

When I boot the phone, it now says II777... And the Yellow Warning Triangle is there.. Is this normal or ?

Flashing a custom kernel with Odin or Heimdall from your computer causes the warning triangle and increments the flash counter. It's how Samsung designed the bootloaders to work.
