Ran Odin "return to stock" and now looping on boot

Followed the steps, powered on phone with vol/up/down and put in usb cord. Odin found it, ran the "Start" button. Waited until it "passed" and it rebooted. It just keeps giving the ATT boot screen over and over

Nevermind. Rebooted phone into recovery mode (3e) and wiped data. That allowed phone to reboot into stock mode.

help unrooting UCKK6

Please help

My android version is 2.3.6 and baseband is I777UCKK6.

According to what I read, I should be able to unroot my never-unroot-phone using odin3 one-click downloader I-777 UCKH7 stock no bootloader.

I was able to run the program, the progress bar advanced and finally the edit box turn green and say PASS!

Since my wi-fi is not working (as mentioned by several others in this thread before), I proceed to do factory reset. After resetting, my wi-fi is working again and I see my android version and my baseband becomes 2.3.4 and I777UCKH7 respectively. So it seemed like I successfully rooted my phone. However, there is no superuser apps and I tried to run rom manager, it said no superuser is found. Tried to type "su" in the terminal, I only have dollar sign no pound.

I tried to re-do the Odin3 one-click and still have the same result. What did I do wrong?

I think you must have used the package for stock without root, instead of the one with root. It's ok to just go ahead and flash the one with root now. You should not have to reset again.

Thank you. I can't believe I kept using the package without root over and over again and never cross my mind to use the one with root. Now I need to decide what to do with a rooted phone :)

Hello all. I got the update the other day through Kies and was unrooted when I got it. I'm wanting to root my phone and all the info I'm finding is for rooting gb. I've downloaded the I777_UCKH7_OCD_Root_No_BL.7z from method 3. Will this method work with UCLE5 which I'm running now? I guess my confusion lies in whether this method flashes a gb kernel onto ICS which I've gathered is not good.

You're going to have to flash back to stock or flash one of the already rooted official ICS ROMs.

I understand, but I'm still confused. does that make sense?:) From what I understand, rooting just flashes a kernel, is that right? So rooting with one of the above methods would flash a gb kernel onto my UCLE5. Is that right or am I completely screwed up? I've searched and searched and am not finding any info pertaining to rooting ICS only gb.

You can not root stock ICS that way, and your lack of general understanding indicates that you should do some reading and gain a better general understanding before you do anything.

As far as I know, there is no way to root the ICS update without incrementing the flash counter. You can root it by flashing the ICS version of Siyah kernel using Odin. This will increment the flash counter.

Or, you can flash rooted gingerbread and then go to the development forum and flash one of the three rooted versions offered by AJ Newkirk. This will not increment the flash counter if you follow the guide linked in my signature, or the OP of this thread.

Again, you need to study more.

Root actually has nothing to do with the kernel, except that some kernels, such as Siyah, inject root into the system partition. Root consists of the superuser.apk, su, and usually busybox, all in the system partition.

Interesting. So here's what happened. I tried to flash I777_UCKH7_OCD_Root_No_BL.7z. I figured I would try to go back to gb and then go from there(following the guide in OP here). Process went fine and my phone booted back up, then got stuck on the setup screen(touch the green android to continue). I could push the power button to lock the screen, push it again to unlock and my widgetlocker screen (that I had set up before this process) would come up(because I didn't unmount the sd card?). I unlocked and still stuck on the setup screen. A long press on the green android initiated some error messages:

the process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly please try again. push to force close

the application Google process (com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly

And here's where I sit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[edit]Did a factory reset, got through the setup process, 2.3.4 now installed and doing an OTA update as we speak. Maybe delete this post, call me a moron, and reach through your monitors and give me a nice hard slap.

First, I want to say that I am not sure if this is the right place for this question. I have also done an extensive amount of reading through these forums to find answers to my questions with no luck.

So, here is what I am looking for:

- I updated to the official AT&T ICS version. I am looking to root and install a custom ROM.

- I read that I can flash the rooted UCLE5 via Odin to get root (from the Download Repository. Is this correct?

- Once I do this, the flash counter will not be incremented, correct? Or do I still have to follow those steps?

- Then after I have root, are there restrictions on what ROMs I am able to flash?
- CM9?
- AOKP? Or any ROM based off of AOKP?
- AOSP ROM?

- Would using the method of going back to the GB stock provide more flexibility and have better performance, etc?

Thanks.

Why did you go through the update process if you were just going to flash a custom rom?

I'm not seeing a rooted UCLE5 package in the Download Repository, just the fully stock package. You can download a rooted one from here...

If you're just going to install a custum rom, though, you don't really need UCLE5 rooted. I would just flash the rooted UCKH7 package and go from there.

- Once I do this, the flash counter will not be incremented, correct? Or do I still have to follow those steps?
If you flash the rooted UCLE5 package I linked above using Odin, it will increment the flash counter.

- Then after I have root, are there restrictions on what ROMs I am able to flash?

- AOKP? Or any ROM based off of AOKP?
- AOSP ROM?
No restrictions, other than making sure it's an i777 rom. If you want to flash an i9100 rom, you'll have to hellraise it.

- Would using the method of going back to the GB stock provide more flexibility and have better performance, etc?
I'm not really sure what you're asking here...

It sounds like you still need to do a bit more reading. Follow creepy's guide for rooting and flashing roms. It won't stear you wrong.

Thank you for your response. I updated to the official to see what it was like and to maintain warranty for as long as possible. I also just wanted the info b/c I have been reading so much on it. I agree I am not very knowledgeable. BUT, these forums get very hard to follow sometimes, and I wasn't sure b/c of having the ICS update what I would be able to do.

I am not 100% convinced to root/flash yet. I might wait for possible Jelly Bean ROMs in the future...

Current Comparisons with ICS

I owned a Galaxy S (Captivate) and an AT&T Galaxy S II. I've installed a number of custom ROMs on both in addition to using the stock ROM. I AM NOT a developer, or even consider myself a power user, so don't yell if you disagree.

My favorite ROM by far is Cyanogen Mod 7 and that is what I came from back to the stock Samsung ROM to install the ICS update. In having used it for a day I can say that I find no flashy changes from CM7. If anything, I find the ICS update makes some of the features I liked about CM7 available in the stock ROM. (I guess that's the trouble with being on the bleeding edge)

The only thing I'm missing (sort of) is the tethering capability that CM7 has, which of course the stock ROM cannot provide.

Other than that; I'm not really seeing much difference in terms of visual and operational changes. Phone appears to be just as smooth, and stable. Only exception so far is the Swype is a bit buggy and I believe it has to do with the fancy transitions when Swype has suggestions.
