I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S II I777 at&t model and upto now knows nothing about rooting. My phone is currently unlocked and being used in Sri Lanka.

01. It has a build number of UCKK6, so I want to find out which method will work on rooting my phone.
02. And also would it affect the unlock of my device if I root it??

:) :) Help???
01. Flash the UCKK6 plus root package from this thread. Since you are flashing the same base (UCKK6) you will be able to retain your personal settings and applications. No need to do a wipe data/factory reset.

02. My understanding is that flashing firmware will not change your unlock status.

Thanxxx!!! :) Then according to what I understand, I should use the 3rd method right? :)

This thread is mainly for Gingerbread. To root stock ICS, go here.
Please forgive me if this comes across as completely ignorant. I am completely ignorant when it comes to everything in here.
Since I am a new user, it would not allow me to reply to threads in the development section.

I have a bone stock AT&T I777, Kernel: 3.0.15-I777UCLE5-CL652575 [email protected] #3

All I want to do is root my phone. The thread you linked only has references to "How to Install a customized kernel onto your Rooted phone"
If my phone was already rooted, I wouldn't need this page. Yes, I read through it several times, but it doesn't make any sense to me. I downloaded all of the tools referenced in the OP, but can't seem to figure them out on my own. Is there a beginners guide to rooting that will work on my phone? I'm not interested in custom ROM's, what I want to do is get rid of some of the AT&T bloatware and install a CPU controller program that requires root.

Thank you in advance.

The thread referenced has UCLE5 Stock plus Root. You need to flash that using Odin3 v1.85 or similar. You will then be rooted. Since you already have UCLE5 stock firmware on your phone, you will gain root but nothing else will change.

Once you have the phone rooted, it is advised to install a custom kernel. The directions in that thread should be sufficient to explain to you what needs to be done. If you have questions, please ask them in that thread. Oops, ask them here until you get enough postcount to post in development.

You're in the wrong forum. You must have I9100. The I777 doesn't have a home button.

This phone has to have the worst instructions out of the 50 phones I have rooted and flashed. How do you get clockword mod working, or where is a link to a odin I can use to flash?

If you had read it wouldn't be that hard. It clearly explains how to do everything. Just choose the third methods since the others are zerg rushed and don't have CWM

Hmm well I used a different method to root so someone else will have to help you now. If you are on stock rom you can go pick up the update.zip flashable CWM.
Yea well that is what I normally do but I haven't been able to find it anywhere. That's the problem.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081 Follow this and then flash a custom rom or kernel and you will have CWM
Tried Odin Mobile Lite and had no option to flash cwm, kept saying it needed another add on or something. And would send me to the thread. With nothing mentioned about another add on needed. Just a link to the apk for the odin mobile. This is what I mean.

Every other phone I have had has been well obviously simple, and very well detailed. This phone section seems like a mess with very little documentation that actually makes sense, links that aren't dead.

But yea this is why I mentioned how difficult this phone is to get things done... its not that I didn't read, more so the documentation seems to be written by a 10 year old, and scattered about. Why is there a need for 10 different rooting options. Is the only way to get CWM is to flash a new kernal through odin, or pay for Odin Mobile PRO

Not that big of a deal going to sell the phone anyway.

My T-Mobile T989 I had done in like 2-3 min.
