i think i misunderstood the question. can you clarify?
so for example photoshop mobile starts with the phone, i dont want it to.

found an apk for startup auditor on some place. but its not exactly effective. some apps still startup, and some others dont even show up there.

i would think so. on all my old winmo phones you could get into the root directories and just delete crap from the startup folder, or insert crap. i do have a proccess killing app that will one click shut down whole masses of backgroud apps. called advanced task killer. (caveat here; i'm just learning android)

You have to have root to do that, don't you?
its not some really low level task im asking for. im an android noob yet, but i would think that telling skype it doesnt need to start with the phone should be trivial.

also why does maps keep starting up?

god and startupauditor itself keeps starting up after a while.

really could use a better app manager that tells apps not to start unless explicitly asked for.

This shows that people don't understand how android works :D

ATK's are useless, and perhaps have caused a lot of grief for people when installing.

There is a great program called AutoStarts that I've used, but im not sure if root access is required(I used it on my Droid with root).

You may also check at the application itself, and look into the settings that it has and try to see if you can disable startup options.

I used the free app called APP Killer. It is in the market for apps 4th or 5th on down from the top. I turned off 5 things I never new were running in the back ground. MY batt. has lasted from Tuesday at 4pm (full charge) until this morning. I left the 3G on all the time to see what would happen. I text about 50 messages a day to,
